Front Porch for Fall

I finally have the front porch put together.
It's a small little porch, and I've been warned  asked
not to cram too much out here.
That's a hard one...

It's Fall,
 and that means mums,
 pumpkins,
 and my black wagon.

Snow Owls on the Mantel

It just wouldn't be October on the Mantel without my little Snow Owls. A few years ago white owls were the latest addition to the Fall Scene, and that reminded me of what a fad owls were in the early 70's. All the poor homely little ceramic owls that had been packed away or sold at garage sales started to make a comeback on the shelves of flea markets and antique malls. They were still homely, but I had a plan...

Wheelbarrows, Wagons, and "Hoo" Else?

Hey Friends, I just wanted to share a few pics with you, as I'm getting the front porch readied for my favorite month... October! I've had some mums out, and my door basket decorated for Fall, but I wanted to wait and share it all with you when I had my French Goat Cart decorated. I was going to use real pumpkins, but I decided to repaint some of my faux stash, and just ended up with them instead.

Kitchen China Cupboard for Fall

Before we moved to this house, my kitchen china cupboard, had always been just that... a china cupboard. It held china, and some colored crystal and a few antique floral teapots. It never changed, no matter what the Season or Holiday. I had lots of other places to "play" and decorate, so this one I left alone...

You know it's Fall when...

Well, you know it's officially Fall when Google has gone Squirrely for pumpkins and gourds. This has been the best way to start my day and the Fall Season. Enjoy your Google Art announcement for Autumn!

Speaking of Pumpkins and Gourds, my farm stand finally opened,
so I came home with a few to get me started.
I already know I'll be back this weekend!

Coffee Table ala Fall

If I'm not careful, September will be over, and I'll be behind in sharing a few of my "First Fall" vignettes and decorating. I like to spread Fall out as long as I can, so I have lots of different layers and stages. Can you believe how fast this month is going by? I'd been putting off decorating the coffee table, because I wanted to do something "different", and I just hadn't figured out what that was going to be...

Fall Birdies

Does that title sound like I've lost my marbles?
Like a crazy cat lady that spends all her time bird watching with her felines?
don't answer that...

Hope you all are having a great Labor Day Weekend. We stuck close to home except for a fun trip on Saturday to a new winery in the area. I'll show you a few pics and share a link with you soon. They also have a sheep farm, so that was the real draw for me. We've had a heat wave this last week, and it's supposed to break in the next few days. We had such a wonderful taste of cooler weather earlier. Hopefully, that will bring us back to the 70's. gosh, I'm more than ready.

Gettin' his Fall on...

I tried to tell Beaufort that it was a little too early for Fall decorating...

but he didn't listen.

He wanted to try on his new plaid scarf...

and then he wouldn't take it off.

so I had to humor him.
"OK, Beaufort, it's pretty close.
you can leave it on."

Do you or someone you know,
 have unreasonable feelings about Fall?
yeah, I know.

Thanksgiving Vignette Blog Hop

Hi Everyone,
Welcome to the Thanksgiving Vignette Blog Hop

When Sherry asked if I would like to be a part of this Blog Hop, I was thrilled, because with two moves this last year, I haven't had much opportunity to decorate for Holidays. Most of my décor and Holiday items were packed away in storage bins, so I haven't been able to participate in much blogging fun. So, with just having moved 2 weeks ago, I planned ahead to have a few Thanksgiving boxes within reach.

One of the few new Holiday items I've found this year is this fun little 4 ft. LED Snow Tree. It has a dusting of "snow", but I added some faux Fall leaves to make it work for Fall and Thanksgiving. My painted white Mr.Turkey, a glass cylinder with candle and some faux leaves, and a wonderful tweedy pumpkin are sitting on my petite dresser that used to be in the Entry at the other houses.

(It's lighted, but hard to see in the daylight)

I wanted to try something different this year,
and I think the little lighted tree adds some fun.

Sorry for the distraction of the blinds,
this is a south facing window and the sun can be just too bright.

Isn't this little birdie the sweetest?
He's perched on my brown tweed mega pumpkin
from Becky at  Timewashed.

I just got in on the "tail end" of Fall decorating here at the new house, but I'm enjoying having a few Fall vignettes before it's time for Christmas. I'll just remove the Fall leaves and add a few snowflakes and icicles to the tree to be ready for Christmas.

I hope you'll check out the other participants for some great Fall and Thanksgiving inspiration. If you missed Wednesday's group you can find the links below. Thanks so much for coming by. Have a wonderful week, and stay warm! To continue the Blog Hop, please visit Shirley at Housepitality Designs. Thanks so much for including me, Sherry!

When you just have to decorate something...

This Friday is the big move, but we had furniture delivered from the storage units last week, and it was good to see a few of my things that had been packed away. I've been taking bits and pieces over to the new house, like baskets and pillows and some odd things that could fit in the back of my car. But a few days ago my deep inner need for some sort of a vignette took over, and I grabbed what few things that were within arm's reach and put together something (even if temporary) in the living room. I know I can do better, but bear with me...I'm ready to decorate this dang house!

This sofa table won't stay against this wall, but it was a flat surface (that wasn't being painted), so it was fair game. The lanterns made it, but no candles to be found. The basket and corbels from the baker's rack, one of my Autumn Trays, some bittersweet, pumpkins, and a wonderful soup tureen from a garage sale for a dollar. really. yes, a dollar. (and it's not even busted!)

You can see that the rug is rolled up while I'm working on the coffee and end tables. They're turning out great, but taking more time than I'd figured. It took me quite a while to mix the exact color, but I'll have pics soon.

I'm not sure why the walls look blue, but trust me, there's is no blue in them. Just a great neutral taupe. (Benjamin Moore Smokey Taupe). I never knew there were so many grays, taupes, and whatevers. My advice if you're thinking of painting your walls...get sample pots of paint, lot's of samples, You won't know what color it really is until it's up on your wall.

Speaking of pillows, my two little squirrels made it to the new kitchen.
The perfect time of year for them.

And my hat boxes and old hats are up on the hutch
above my computer in my new office.

Here are a few pics from the Dining Room; it's snug in there. I've realized my chair slips are in "no man's land" somewhere in the depths of the last storage unit that was filled. I hope to have them located and in my possession before Christmas... hopefully that will be this Christmas.

My Staffordshire bowl with velvet pumpkins that I hand carried over. I think my table runners are all with my chair slips, so ditto for having some decor tablescapes on the big brown DR table.

The clock looks a little "white" and by itself, but with the chair slips and prints up, I think it will balance out.

And here's a sneak peek of my new antique mirror I found a few weeks ago in a great little shop in Ozark, Missouri. It will go above the buffet that you see here. It's my gold scroll-y French-y mirror that I had been looking for.

I'll be without email and the computer for a couple of days, while we get things transferred to the new house. Have a fun Halloween and weekend. I'll check back when the dust has settled!

Finally...September

The weather might not have realized that it's the start of all things Fall,
but the calender says it's September, so it's good enough for me!

Last January and February when I was packing up all my boxes of faux flowers and Holiday decor to take to the storage units, I tried to grab a few Fall things and keep them separated to bring to the lease house. Back then I had no idea where we would be this Fall. Fall was about as far from my mind as it could get, but I'm so glad I had a little forethought to do it.

I have tons of Fall stuff over at the storage units that I might not find or unpack till months down the road, so these few little things will have to do for now. Decorating here at the lease house is slim pickins, as we will probably be moving by the end of the month. This little house is filled with boxes and odds and ends from the "clean out" of our old house, so just a taste of Fall will have to do.

This little paper mache squirrel was a gift from my younger daughter several years ago, and he always has a place of importance. This year he took up residence in one of my Pottery Barn lanterns here on the old trunk, that we've been using as a coffee table.

The base "tree trunk" is really a little box and the squirrel is the lid.

This is one of my wonderful Pumpkins that I bought from Becky at Timewashed, last year. She's in full Fall mode, so check out all her creations HERE. If you want something special, just let her know. She sells out before she can get them listed.

I made these late summer sunflower bouquets a few years ago for my antique mall space, and saved a few for myself. The urn is from Pottery Barn a few years ago, and it's one of my favorite decor pieces. This was last year...

Here it is from a few years ago...

...and my favorite version from 2012.

No dried hydrangeas or pumpkins yet,
just a scraggly ivy that's managed to hang on.

I'll check back with you on a house update. I've been tearing my hair out over the right paint color. Seems that Ben Moore Smokey Taupe changes throughout the day due to lighting. The old paint that was pinky/sandy/fleshy/salmon has been driving me crazy cause it reflects on my new paint. I cannot get that suff covered up fast enough! It's taken a few sessions of my husband talking me down from the ledge to finally get it settled. See that sofa in the background? Somehow it wants to read as dark khaki/green at the new place...just a few of the issues with paint.

more to come, soon.
the new house saga continues...
