What I Rescued This Weekend, Monday and Update on Desk

We woke up this morning to temperatures in the upper 50's! Wow, it felt like fall, but the sun sooned warmed us up, even though we stayed in the low 70's all day. I think this is the coolest August we've had for a long, long time. I have to say that August is my least favorite month of the year. Sorry all you great people out there with August birthdays, my husband included. The only redeemable quality to August, in my book, is that the next month is September. Yes, Fall!

So off we went Junkin', but today furniture was not to be found, just some great small goodies, and you know I'm always up for some "small" things.
And as you might have noticed the desk from last week has been painted. I have to say that it looks soooo much better in person. The garage lighting and the tightness of the space, which didn't allow for a good shot, just doesn't do it justice.

Before shot, last Sunday.

Yes, you have seen this one, but remember the photos from "Highlights" magazine, the ones where you had to guess what's different with the picture. OK, look at this one, then look at the next one. Who sees "what's different?"

Can you see it? Yes, the cat carcass on the left.
One of my garage assistants, Miss Wrigley.

My Hubbs found this great black chippy hand mirror.

Great silver stuff.

Another find from my husband. A couple's vacation portraits.
Wish I knew where. In the original frames.
Can't you just imagine these on a mantle or a bedroom vanity?

Little ceramic cream pitcher.

Love this great little silk coin purse.

Jewelry casket, apothacary jar, cake stand, and prisms.

I think this is a calendar graphic.

Cute little black bench in the background.

Jesus prints...I just love them.

Another old crucifix.

Silver goblets and champagne glass.

Old photos of families. I don't see "family" photos very often.

Wonderful old Cabinet Cards.

Do you know why they are called "cabinet cards"? You probably do,
but I didn't... because they were meant to lean against something in a cabinet,
Not to be put in frames.
Be sure to check in with Polly, over at Sassafras Stuff,
to see her junkin finds.

Have a great week,
Hope you found tons of great Junk this last weekend!

I Wonder if Her Dreams Came True?

Last Monday, in my post about the finds I had from the weekend, I showed this cream scrapbook, sort of in passing. When I was young I had a scrapbook or two, usually about movies that I had seen, memorabilia... high school stuff. My husband called this one to my attention, and truthfully I just bought it because of the color.

Monday in my comments, Dawn, from Cottage State of Mind asked about what was in the inside, so I had a look...and when I did a young woman's hopes and dreams were on display.

From the car, I'm thinking mid 1940s, although one photo of dishes was dated 1938.

Pictures of the ideal couple.

She liked modern architecture.

And had clipped magazine photos of how she would decorate each room.

There were many more pages of thoughts and ideas.

So Helen, did your dreams come true?
Here's hoping our dreams do come true.

Show Me the Roosters...Rooster Party

As a lover of Country French decor,
I do have a few of our strutty little friends.
Here is my favorite, and the oldest of the flock.
He hangs out downstairs in the Bar on my baker's rack,
with another friend, a teapot which is not old, but cute.

Looks like he's giving his friend a piece of his mind!

This little fellow is having a photo shoot in the dining room,
in the place of honor, a cloche.

And... where would all the Roosters be if it weren't for a few Hens?

Congregating on the kitchen counter,
strutting their stuff!

Be sure and check out Bella Vista who is hosting this
great Rooster get-together!

Have a "Cock-a-doodle" good kinda' Day!

White Wednesday at the Beach Party

I 'm loving these blog parties. It stretches my imagination. So, last minute again, I wanted to find a way to combine something "Beachy" with "White".
I put together this little "Cottage Vignette" in my sunroom, because the light there is just so natural. It's on the north side of the house, so it's bright without being harsh.

This little wicker basket is holding some sentimental treasures...dried roses and hydrangeas from my younger daughter's wedding, a conch shell that my mother used as a doorstop for 50 years, (my Dad found it on a beach during his Navy years) and a little nautilus shell I recently found at a flea market. The two shabby white candlesticks were once electified and the linen is an old French piece.

And this is the closest I was to the "Beach" this summer.
Soaking up some vitamin D in my back yard.
