Spring Entry

When we moved into the lease house, I realized that there were some decorating spaces that I wanted to reproduce from the other house. Case in point my Entry area. I tried other mirrors and lamps and trays, but always came back to this combination which were used in my previous Entry.

It felt comfortable and gave me a semblance of familiarity and "home". This small dresser isn't as big as the console from the other Entry area, but I was able to place most of my pieces there, and I can change things up just a little for the Holidays and Seasons.

...White clock, silver tray, old books and my lamp.
Still room for a small basket and one of my sheep prints decoupaged on canvas.

One of my little chalk lambs, probably from a vintage Nativity set.

metal sheep bank on old book stack...

The canvas I used for this print was too large,
but I just did a little tromp l'oeil to make it work.

Just a subtle low key nod to Easter and Spring.
(I have some things to share soon that really do scream Spring)

One thing I did add to the lamp was this tassel cord.
Remember when we had to have tassels on every key and piece of furniture?
OK, maybe it was just me who did that.

Well, this old framed print that you can see in the mirror reflection looks totally wackadoodle, but I'm standing close and there's not much space. The frame looks all warped, but it's not. I looked for a signature but couldn't find one. If you know anything about either one of these prints I'd love to hear.

Everytime I come back here from the house packing, I have a few decor things stashed in my bag. It's so hard to be packing bunnies and all things Spring in cardboard boxes, when all they want to do is come back here and be "vignetted". that's a new word I just made up for using things in a "vignette". I think all the work is getting to me,  or maybe I just have Spring Fever. probably both.

A little gray on the dresser...

Well, I persuaded Hubbs to move around my boxes and tubs in the storage area at the old house, in hopes of finding my two tubs of Valentine things. When we moved to the smaller house I brought very little "decor" stuff with me, just the basics. So after wading through the Fall and Christmas (there's a ton of it) I gratefully spied the pink and red, and tried to get out of there as soon as possible. If I keep him in the storage room too long it turns into a disagreement. I know... I know ...I'm workin' on organization!

The Entry here isn't large, but it's big enough for my little dresser, a mirror, and a few things that are holiday and seasonal on top.

I tried not to overdo it, just keep it sweet and simple.

Little Lefton Cupid Box

My handmade pottery Valentine

Here's a better shot of the entry before Valentine's jumped on it. If you look closely you can see the dresser is a little different color. Actually, the night before we moved I grabbed my can of taupe bedroom wall paint and decided to give it a little gray/taupe wash. I've mentioned that my "antique white" furniture looks really yucky here at this smaller house...just plain 'ol dirty.

So, I just painted some of the taupe/gray on
and then wiped it down with a wet cloth,  taking most of it off.

The next morning Hubby said, "what did you do to this little dresser?"
I said that it would match the new sofas better with this gray wash,
and I was surprised when he approved and thought it did look better.

So now it blends with the new/old cedar chest and the little accent table. I imagine that this is where most of my "Old White" furniture from the old living room is headed; it will need a wash of gray to work with these sofas. This only took me about half an hour, so that thought isn't too intimidating.

None of those pieces are here at the smaller house. One thing at a time, and this last weekend we packed up all the china and antique dishes from the Dining Room. Gosh, what a big job that was. I'm still not finished, because we ran out of foam and bubble wrap, but we're making some progress and that's what we need to see. The new granite countertops go in to the old house this week. Can't wait to see it!

Wish we'd made the decision to put on granite while we still lived there. (It should have had it when we bought the house, but the previous owners cut corners in the kitchen) But you know how things go, don't want to deal with the mess, or spend the money. Thinking of selling the house has caused us to realize there were some things that just needed to be updated. So now, someone else will benefit from all the work we're doing. I'm OK with it though, I'm letting things go, and realizing that it's not "home" anymore. We're looking forward to the future.

Looking back, toward Thanksgiving

Boy, am I thankful for that extra hour today...I've been trying to play catch-up since getting back from St. Louis, and I'm behind on almost everything. So today I thought I'd just share a few pics from year's past Thanksgivings. It's such a short season, that sometimes I don't get a lot of photos of how things transition from Halloween to Thanksgiving, and then on into Christmas.

Planting Paperwhites, which is a tradition I've had for the last 8 years or so.

(remember, you can click on the image for it to become much bigger)

Setting up a small tree in the Dining Room right after Halloween, which then became known as my Autumn Tree. Filled with woodland creatures, owls and berries, I think I love it as much as a Christmas Tree.

My urn on the Living Room table went from Pumpkin
to multicolored dried Hydrangeas and preserved leaves.

A shot of my Hall Sideboard for Thanksgiving
and a few of the Entry and another small tree in the Living Room.

And last year's Dining Room table with some paperwhites
in an ironstone tureen on simple white burlap.

I've mentioned before how this blog has really been a virtual diary of my seasonal decor.  I'm working on a vintage Thanksgiving tablescape that has been really fun putting together. I love the colors of this Thanksgiving Season... bringing in the jeweled tones of Autumn, with just a hint of Christmas to come.

Hope you're having a wonderful Sunday.
I'll see you tomorrow for

Autumn Entry

I thought I'd share what's happening here in the entry hall this Fall. Nothing too different, just some subtle changes with some leaves added to the white basket of hydrangeas, and the terrarium/lantern now has a candle and some Fall foliage instead of my two sheep. Some of these pics were shared at Marty's last Friday, but I hadn't posted them here yet. So, just in case you missed seeing them.

My moss covered initial "O" made by my sis for me for Christmas last year.
(thought I'd better explain, no, it's not a zero)
It's been hanging here all year, I just love it!

One of my real pumpkins landed in the cast iron urn along with a few bittersweet vines. This urn usually sits on the entry console with a faux flower arrangement, but I brought in another arrangement that I've had for awhile, just for a little change up.

Almost impossible to see,
but my little concrete squirrel is sitting on top of an old book stack
with a few clay pots, happily munching on acorns.

An old print of  "The Angelus" by Millet,
brings in the earthy tones of Autumn.

And it's just not Fall without a chipmunk or two...or three.
(This little guy is one of my vintage Lefton figurines)

We had rain and another cool front come through...
aahhhhh, it's really feeling like Fall!
