She Collects (Vintage) Seashells

This time of year, late July, I get that little nudge to play with some Seashell Decor. There's a short window of opportunity to do shell decor around here. Early Summer is filled with garden fun, then comes the Patriotic decor. Now's the time before "Pre Fall" starts. So I put together a little vignette on an antique tray in the Dining Room. It's not really  "beachy", but more "vintage".

I found a few pieces of silver accessories and a jewelry casket,
then filled them with small shells.

Joining them is a vintage plaster little girl bust from the 60's,
a small clock, and an old crystal drop from a chandelier.

A glass cylinder hurricane with a small ring of individual shells.

Here's the post when I painted this sweet little antique glass tray.

Here are a couple of posts from a few years ago
where I used some other vintage pieces to display my shells.

Summertime Seashell Vignette

The large Conch Shell in the Blue Willow tureen is a real antique.
As long as I could remember it was used at my childhood farmhouse
as a door stop for the front door.

As I've said before, you can always tell what's got me interested
because my Pinterest boards and recent pins reflect my searches.

These are a few pics from my Pinterest Board, Seashell Decor.
Please don't pin these images here, please go to the board and re-pin from there.

Seashells & Pearl Display / My Romantic Home: Our Home

Thinking of doing something similar with the shells we brought back from Ireland, to decorate the bathroom.

Victorian Shell Boxes

A fairly nice display of shells. Note the watercolor tucked into the 3rd shelf; I would display a few more things that are not shells - a lighthouse, a jar of seaglass, a pelican, a sailor's knot or a buoy - to give a little relief.

  1. Debra,
Gorgeous displays and vignettes of sea shells!
I'll be away all next week, but will visit you soon,
to see all your home improvements!

  2. You have so many pretty shells. I love that sweet little clock in your vignette. So pretty and unique. Happy Friday.

  3. That is so funny about the antique conch shell used as a doorstop! My great grandmother had a beautiful conch shell for the same reason! My sister now uses it at her home in Arizona! Memories....

  4. Shells are always beautiful and interesting! I especially like your candle hurricane. I need some beach time I think!

  5. Gorgeous photos, and I Love your shells. I have ours out all year round in the fisherman basement room. Christmas has a woodland and fishing tree, complete with light up netted floats! Our Christmas is so personal--I don't think I have ever shared that tree. G

  6. Debra, thank you for the seashell inspiration! Yes, now is a good time for us “landlocked ladies” to add a bit of seashore decor. I have a few pieces out, as well. Good luck on restoring your new home, after all of that work! Zenda

  7. Those are great, and it's a great time for displaying them as you've done. I kept my seashells - all of them! I keep a couple vignettes out all the time, and then put the other bags of shells away for later. I told myself at the beach this year I wasn't going to collect more, but brought home 2. :)

    1. You all who live on the coast are so lucky getting to head to the beach each year. Hope you had a great getaway. We haven't been to a beach in 25 years! Maybe next year!

  8. Wow Debra, that is quite the collection. Love it all. I love a pretty vignette and you have certainly showcased your shells. Thanks Debra for your visit to "Love Your Creativity" and sharing these amazing shells.

  9. Beautiful. Great idea for a Pinterest board.

  10. Hi Debra,
I really like your beautiful seashell displays. What a smart idea to display them in your BLue Willow soup tureen. Lots of great ideas.

  11. Love all the ideas! I am a Caribbean girl and grew up by the beach, so decorating with coastal elements is really something I cherish.

  12. Love love love all the shells, Debra! And of course your lady bust!!! Such a pretty vignette... Since I couldn't finish with my computer acting up, I'll share your post for next time (#219 Share Your Style).

Have a great rest of the week,
    Barb :)

  13. What beautiful Work! Where do you get your shells for you projects? I want to do some for gift in jars. Thks

  14. Love your displays..what is the bottle to the right of the fireplace, can you show that too?
