Looking back, toward Thanksgiving

Boy, am I thankful for that extra hour today...I've been trying to play catch-up since getting back from St. Louis, and I'm behind on almost everything. So today I thought I'd just share a few pics from year's past Thanksgivings. It's such a short season, that sometimes I don't get a lot of photos of how things transition from Halloween to Thanksgiving, and then on into Christmas.

Planting Paperwhites, which is a tradition I've had for the last 8 years or so.

(remember, you can click on the image for it to become much bigger)

Setting up a small tree in the Dining Room right after Halloween, which then became known as my Autumn Tree. Filled with woodland creatures, owls and berries, I think I love it as much as a Christmas Tree.

My urn on the Living Room table went from Pumpkin
to multicolored dried Hydrangeas and preserved leaves.

A shot of my Hall Sideboard for Thanksgiving
and a few of the Entry and another small tree in the Living Room.

And last year's Dining Room table with some paperwhites
in an ironstone tureen on simple white burlap.

I've mentioned before how this blog has really been a virtual diary of my seasonal decor.  I'm working on a vintage Thanksgiving tablescape that has been really fun putting together. I love the colors of this Thanksgiving Season... bringing in the jeweled tones of Autumn, with just a hint of Christmas to come.

Hope you're having a wonderful Sunday.

  1. Debra - Everything you do is just gorgeous! You have that magic touch. Beautiful trees.

  2. I agree with Debra above. You do have the magic touch. Loved the idea of the Autumn Tree, such a lovely idea.

  3. Debra,
Just yesterday, searching through my own archives from the original blog. . .
I thought of you and Common Ground and Paperwhites!!!
THIS YEAR, I'm going to buy them as soon as LOWE'S puts them out for $ale!!!
Thanks for these gorgeous mosicas of Seasons past!
P.S. I'm intriqued as to what your color palette for Christmas will be. . .I'll be watching, dear friend!!!

  4. Every year I see your paperwhites in bloom and make a note to plant some the following year. You've given me ample warning this time, so I'm going to buy some bulbs and get to it!! I think we'll be alone this Thanksgiving, so I won't be doing too much decorating. After viewing your pretty photos, I think I'll bring out my white tureen and turkey platter. Enjoy your extra hour today!

  5. Debra I love all your fall things. The tree is super cute and I always love that white box on your dining table. Too pretty all of it. The paper whites are one of my favs and will be so pretty in bloom. Thanks for sharing.

  6. Such pretty pics! I really love the urn with the hydrangeas! :)

  7. So glad you reminded me it is time to plant paper whites.

I am amazed at how fast you get things done.

  8. Thanks for posting this, I need some time to plan and you've given me plenty of inspiration! The variety of containers you use for the paper whites is so nice...I have to do some hunting. I have a tabletop tree that I'd like to dress up and I have been thinking of all of the woodland critter ornaments i have been seeing...your cute tree has sealed the deal!! :) Everything is lovely, Debra and I look forward to what you plan on doing this year.

  9. I am so glad you showed a montage of your Thanksgiving decor. I love that you don't skip it and go right to Christmas. I love, love your seasonal decor and have been stalking your archives for pictures of the different seasons and holidays. I can't wait to see what you have been up to. You've inspired me to really showcase my vintage turkeys.

  10. Debra ~ I love the idea of an autumn tree! Natural things and little woodland sweet! It all looks so beautiful!!!

  17. All your autumn trees and vignettes are stunning! I especially love your white urn filled with hydrangeas and the white urn with a skinny tree and only a handful of leaves. Somehow your blog disappeared from my blog roll, but I am trying to fix that right now.
