Share Your Style #19

Hi Everyone, and Welcome to Share Your Style!

Thanks so much for taking the time to come by and share all your summer fun with us.
I love seeing all your great projects, DIY, recipes, and summer decor.

And speaking of fun decor, Holly from The Coconut Head's Survival Guide transformed a gargage sale score into her own version of a PB Patriotic Oar Decor. What a great idea for your Summer and July 4th Celebrations!

the comfort zone...

A couple of months ago when my husband first brought up the pick-up and camper idea, I have to admit I was not really "on board". He'd talked about it off and on for years, but it didn't seem like much of a reality. Then 12 years ago our lives changed drastically with my heart problems and basically our focus on life became more day to day and month to month, rather than long term.

Then Hubbs had his own health problems with Meniere's for a few years. After his surgery a few years ago, he's pretty much back to "normal". But we've both realized that whatever traveling we were going to do was not going to be by plane. Him with an inner ear issue and me having had blood clots in my heart, the thought of flying... anywhere... made both of us shudder. We've gotten used to the idea that there are plenty of wonderful places we can visit and enjoy that are here in the states. Although it would be wonderful to jet off to foreign destinations, I prefer to be firmly planted on the ground. Does that make us over the hill fuddy duddies? I hope not. In our perspective, just a little more realistic and practical.

Patriotic Summer Kitchen Tote

With the 4th of July just around the corner, it is time to break out the
 Red White and Blue!

I've been working on changing up the Kitchen Sitting Area, and giving it a patriotic feel. The kitchen needed a good dose of "Summer" so I'm giving it a punch of RED. I started with the kitchen table, and gave it something different to wear. So here's just a peek at my Vintage Summer Kitchen, with a white tote filled with vintage utensils.

Ode to a small white table...

I've always had a "thing" for small white tables.
I think it's something about having a clean white canvas...
a place to decorate that's not overwhelming.
It can be seasonal, Holiday, themed...
a small white table can be anything you want it to be.

Share Your Style #17

Hi Everyone, I'm so glad you're here to
Share Your Style!

Hope you're having a good start to June,
it's definitely warming up around here,
and Summer fun is on everyone's schedule.

When I look for features, it's always wonderful to find something new and different. I'm such a vintage garden accessory fan, and Mary from Home Is Where the Boat Is, always wows me with her charming Potting Shed and Garden Decor Posts. You have to see this Blooming Monogram Mary made with wildflowers and boxwood. Now I'm on the hunt for a vintage initial!

Chippy Vintage Window Box Centerpiece

A few weeks ago, when we were in "unpack more boxes" mode, versus our current "let's get the camper ready" mode, I was able to find my old windowbox that I used for so long in my previous Dining Room.

Happy Camper

I've been thinking about writing this post for the last couple of weeks...I guess it's time. It definitely falls into the category of "Old Dogs", as in "teaching them new tricks". Or as in today's new vernacular aka Jimmy Fallon #hashtags, I could label this:

 #Imnotanoldhippy,
 #theresnoplacelikehome,
 #Ihatebugs,
 #Idontwanttopeeinthewoods,
 and...
 #pleasedontmakeme.
But, I don't want be a stick in the mud, and this is something my husband is going to love, and has always wanted to do.

So glad you're here.
Hard to believe this is JUNE!! Summer is here and I'm hoping that the Midwest Monsoon Season is over. All we've had is rain and clouds and chilly. I'm always excited to see what's new out here in blogland, and when I saw this post I was so excited to find a product that I didn't know existed. Check out the Brick Wall Pot Rack from Liz at Home to Cottage. You'll love her great storage idea, and find the latest in wall makeover products.

Last week I shared some pics from a few fun shopping places here in the Ozarks. I also changed up my little wicker seating area in the kitchen and then shared an article about the real cause of heart disease. If you have a family history or know someone who does, you'll want to read it.

Change-up in the Kitchen Sitting Area

Yikes, it's June and it's that time once again...

The week before Memorial Day I was ready for a change in the sitting area of the kitchen. I thought about bringing out my Patriotic things and be ready for July 4th, but I just wasn't ready. It's been a long rainy Spring, and I was craving something that just looked like "Summer".

Knowing the Truth...

...about the real cause of Heart Disease.

I'm going to be honest from the get-go. This is not a post about crafting a beautiful floral heart, but it's something that I'm very familiar with, and something that I personally, have to take very seriously. And so should each of you. I wanted to post a pretty picture, so you would know where my intentions are coming from. I'm posting this because I care about you all, and it's important information that you should all be aware of. Not for yourself only, but for your husbands, parents, children and grandchildren.

A visit to Sandstone

Phone pics...I have a love/hate relationship with them. On one hand, I'm thrilled to have a way to capture images in my favorite shops spur of the moment, but on the other, mine are less than desirable straight off the photo roll. I took these images a couple of weeks ago when we were in Joplin. I'd never been to Sandstone Gardens, and it was a beautiful experience. The garden/green houses on each side of the main retail area were enough to make me want to come back. Oh, and the restaurant provided a wonderful lunch in French Country ambiance.

Share Your Style #15

Hope you had a great Memorial Day Weekend. Ours was wet and soggy, but we spent that time getting some work done around the house. I'm so glad you're here to join in on Share Your Style. Let's see what happened last week.

Robin from Happy at Home is my feature post this week, where she shared her new wall grouping in her Living Room. Her wonderful hand made "Flowers" sign and two botanicals that she framed, look perfect here.

Last week I posted about an easy way to lighten up a Living Room for Summer,  Painting a Jelly Cupboard to fit into my space, and then how a little serendipity reunited me with an old family cemetery.

Now, here's Ron, our host this week:

Hi y'all!

It's my turn again to host this great weekly soiree. I hope you will continue to Share Your Style with us.

I spent the Memorial Weekend in my "happy place", Grand Isle. The unofficial start of summer is here, and I am most excited that my summer will be here in just two days.

This is me and my cousin Monique outside Kajun Kastle at age 7, 40 years ago!!!! Do you like my flowered raft???

Do you have summer plans? This summer I have trips planned to Perdido Key, Seattle, Portland, Los Angeles, and Palm Springs. I cannot wait to share the adventures of Uptown Acorn coming soon....

Thanks to all of you who shared your style with us last week. Here are a few of my favorites:

Southern State of Mind shared her beautiful foyer transformation.

You must see this chair redo from Decor to Adore.

I am a lover of white flowers and silver. Ramon of Rowhouse Blog shared his favorite combination with us.

Meatloaf and Melodrama shared this idea for summer cookies, flip flops. I adore these so much. Brilliant!

Who doesn't love a good summer cocktail? Life In My Empty Nest shared the delicious sounding Simple Cranberry Margarita. Cheers!

Pillow Change-up for a Summer Look

Sometimes, just a few small change-ups can make a space more seasonal. And since you all know that I'm a certified pillow fanatic, that's just what a pillow switch accomplished. Last week we had one of the warmest days so far, so I thought I might need to put away the furry leopard print pillows and the animal print PB throw. Instantly lighter and more "summery".

Around the Bend and Into the Past...

I know most of us believe in the term "Serendipity".

ser·en·dip·i·ty
ˌserənˈdipədē/
noun
  1. the occurrence and development of events by chance in a happy or beneficial way.
    "a fortunate stroke of serendipity"
    synonyms:(happy) chance, (happy) accident, fluke
    luck, good luck, good fortune,fortuityprovidence
    happy coincidence
"the consequence of serendipity is sometimes a brilliant discovery"

This little occurrence by chance wasn't by chance at all,
and it started for me about 23 years ago.

Jelly Cupboard Paint Makeover

I've long been a believer that a can of paint can be a room full of mismatched furniture's best friend. No matter where we've lived or what my current style might be, I've always had a mix of odds and ends; new pieces, antiques, hand-me-downs, and flea market finds. Each piece has a story or memory that keeps them there, but sometimes too many finishes, colors, and wear and tear can make trying to pull a room together totally a nightmare.

Share Your Style #14

Hey Everyone, so glad you're here for
  Share Your Style.

Are you all ready for the "unofficial" start of summer? Right now it's rainy and blustery in the low 60's and feels more like October than May. Here in SW Missouri, a sunny and warm Memorial Day Weekend is few and far between. For some reason it's usually rainy and cool. But we know that all the rain brings amazing yards and flowers. Just take a look at this romantic Wisteria covered porch from Little Farmstead, Pictures from Home. Oh, to have morning coffee sitting out there...really beautiful.

Here are a few pics from my posts this week,

I found my little Garden Girl antique fountain and put her in the Dining Room, Planted a couple of Endless Summer Hydrangea bushes for Mother's Day, and started a paint project of a jelly cabinet that will fill an awkward space in the Living Room. Hope you'll catch up with me if you haven't had a chance.

Keepin' it Real, Folks

In an effort to blog more "Real Time"
I had a decision to make.
Do I show you what I'm working on today
...or do I not?

I'm choosing to share a project in progress.

Now I know many of you will want to bop me
for thinking this needs to be painted.
That's ok, I've taken a few jabs this last day or two.

We talked about "being real" and trying to be more
in the moment on our blogs.
Not to make a "production" out of every blog post,
or strive for perfection.
But to just be ourselves.

So, I'm sharing what I'm up to today...

I've had this little jelly cabinet for about 30 years.
It's not old (in furniture years)
and it's been moved all over creation and then some.
It has chunks of wood missing and deep scratches and gouges.
I know, you can't see them from here.
But I need something in this spot behind Hubbs' Chair.
I don't want something dark and "noticeable".
Too much of that already.
I'm thinking "blend in" has become my decor motto.
Especially in a small space
with too much furniture already.

This spot drives me crazy.
Nothing I've tried fits, or looks right.
It's one of those odd spaces, due to furniture placement.
So I need something to take up the negative space
and cover up this wall that feels lopsided.

So I'm in the process of painting it.
First coat is French Linen ASCP.
Not sure where I'll go from here.

But I'm blocking the Hallway traffic
so I'll have to get it figured out pronto.
Thank goodness for chalk paint.
I did not want to sand this thing.

Create Your Own Canvas Art

So...are you ready for a fun Give-Away?

I need to share a little "backstory" on this. About 6 weeks ago I received an email from a rep at CanvasPop. I know you all have heard of them; their company makes wonderful photographic prints transferred to canvas. I've seen them on other blogs, and have been impressed with their amazing quality of work. They were generously asking if I'd like to send in one of my photos to be turned into a canvas print/image.

WOW, how super!!
Except as you all know and hear me complain about mention, I have very limited wall space in our new home, and I've been taking my time making decisions about wall decor and art. I pretty much dragged my feet on this opportunity and went through all my photographs of the last several years, but could not come up with anything that really grabbed me.

CanvasPop Website.
If you have a minute watch their very cool video!

Then I had a thought...(this can be so dangerous) what I really would love to have would be some sort of vintage image on the canvas. I wasn't sure what that would be or how to get that to work, but I got back with them and asked if it might be possible. The only stipulation would be that the image would have to be something in "the public domain", meaning that the artist must be deceased at least 100 years so it will not still be copyrighted.

Where do you find a vintage image that is no longer under copyright?

I thought I'd give Etsy a go, and sure enough there are endless images available in the format that it takes to have the image copied on canvas. I think I paid $4 for this image to be downloaded to my computer. If you do a Google search for downloadable images you'll find them tons of places. I happen to love vintage images of sheep. What's your obsession? I guarantee that you'll locate many options.

This is what I chose, but if you want a photo canvas of your kiddos, or your pets, or a perfect sunset from your own photograph, then that's available too.

CanvasPop has lot's of options to choose from and they will customize your canvas to best accommodate the size of your image. This Give Away is for a free 16x20 image on a .75 wrapped canvas. And if you don't want to wait on the Give Away, then there's a 35% off coupon discount available to my readers, you'll just need to use the code COMMON35 at checkout.

Here's the .75 wrap. I chose to have the print extended over the edges, but you can also choose white or black, so that you won't lose any of your original image.

It comes ready to hang, with a professional wire and hardware.

I'm enjoying my little gal here on the Entry Console for now.
