Amber Glass for Autumn Displays

Hello Friends, and all of you who love Fall and all the deep rich layers of this beautiful season.

Today I'm sharing my Amber Glass pieces and collections and how I use them in decor, and in this case oftentimes in my harvest tablescapes. I only have a few pieces, all of them vintage. My favorite and most used piece is this vintage cake pedestal that I use for displaying vignettes under glass during Autumn. It's the perfect way to "elevate" and highlight small vignettes with a cloche in my dining room décor.

I'm using this pedestal this season to create a fall woodland cloche display with one of my favorite fall pieces; my paper mache squirrel box and a velvet bejeweled pear. I have it sitting here on the dining room table, and for an added boost in height, it's on top of a wooden column riser. Later, I moved this over to the buffet.

I'm not one to use a cake pedestal for cakes; cupcakes maybe, so this is usually how it appears each fall season. A small garland of fall leaves, nuts and berries, and some preserved fall leaves add a bit of embellishment.

Here's the pedestal that I used a few years ago to display a pumpkin in the Holiday Cupboard fall styling without a glass cloche. It worked beautifully along with the brown transferware.

In the garden room the coffee/table bench is frequently changing, with small vignettes for the season. Here I'm using a large vintage Amber glass jar paired with a small olive bucket candleholder, bittersweet, a mini pumpkin, and a single pear. Multi-hued fall leaves are all that's needed for an anchor on the table.

Amber glass was first created to be used with contents that needed to be protected from sunlight such as medicine and foods that decompose quicker. Then Amber Glass was used in "Depression Glass" back in the 20's in many colors. This has been one of my all-time favorite coffeetable vignettes. The leaves and the bottle, and the pumpkin, pear and bittersweet perfectly sum up my feelings for the Autumn season.

Here's the bigger view with the sitting area that season.

And another grouping of Amber Glass with my set of vintage Fostoria,  Indiana Glass Cubist drinking glasses. This is a fall tablescape I created back in my first blogging house with a Scottish wool throw and brown transferware for Thanksgiving. This is one of my most read posts, and favorites of Fall.

I'm using the amber glassware with some antique Heisey glassware.

Mix and match brown transferware are one of my favorite settings.

I had fun putting together the windowbox used as a centerpiece, using deer shed antlers and fall foliage with pumpkins.

I'll be sharing the rest of my Dining Room later this week.
Thanks so much for coming by.

October Entry With the Snow Owls

I think we all have favorite décor pieces that have some sentimental significance for each season. I bring them out each year, but I do try to move them around and at least be a bit creative by using them in different settings and rooms.

Kitchen Niche with October Whimsy

Hello friends, here's a peek at my kitchen niche for October. This a fun spot in the kitchen that is yet one more flat surface that gets a seasonal update
often. You know me, I can't leave a flat surface alone without a touch of some kind of décor.

Cottage Review: Woodsy Kitchen China Cabinet

I'm getting ready to tweak my "Early Fall" Holiday Cupboard, to an October version that has more current seasonal color and vibe to it. When we were living at our last home I didn't have a spot for the Holiday Cupboard, so I focused with seasonal dishes on my Kitchen China Cupboard. I used more dishes than odds and ends, but it was still fun to "decorate" with natural and seasonal bits of bittersweet and leaves.

Autumn Greetings from the Cottage Front Porch

Hello friends, so hard to imagine we've now moved into October, my favorite month of the year. And my favorite season to decorate the front porch. Welcome to the "Falling for Porches" Porch Hop hosted by our dear friend Laura from Decor to Adore.

September Styling in the Sitting Area

Did someone say that September is almost over? What? Where did September go? It seems like it was just yesterday that I was celebrating the fact that August was in the rear view mirror.

Goat Carts and Wagons Filled and Displayed for Fall

Today I'm sharing some fun ideas for putting together a cart or wagon for a beautiful Fall display, indoors or out.

I've been working on my front porch this week getting it ready for a Fall Hop where a group of us will be sharing our front porches next week. Creating a fall garden display in a cart or wagon is always my favorite theme. So I needed some inspiration for putting things together, then share some pics from some of my previous cart and wagon fall displays.

Cottage ReView: Botanical Calendar Art on the Fall Buffet

Hello my friends, today on the Cottage Review I'm sharing a post from our previous home's dining room, styling my buffet for fall. At our current house our buffet is under a lovely English Country paned window, and although it's a pretty setting it's not practical for photo taking. Our last house had the "Frenchy mantel mirror" above it, and it was the perfect spot for decorating.

Sweet September in the Cupboard

When the calendar page turns to September something happens in my head and heart. I love Fall and seeing September roll around lets me know that the colorful foliage, cooler days, and cozy nights will soon be here.

Cottage Review: Vintage Laundry Basket with Pumpkins

The Fall Season brings out the creative vibes for me more than any other season. Here's a centerpiece I put together last Fall on the farmtable in the Garden Room. I knew I wanted to try something different on the farm table for early Fall for a centerpiece. I usually have my big wooden vintage ice cream bucket filled with faux florals, and I love it... just wanted something a bit different. When I find something that works well in a space I sometimes get a little lazy and do the minimum. But after my vintage shopping trip a while back I had some new inspiration and ideas to try.

Vintage Architectual Element on the Fall Mantel

Now that September has arrived and the official start to Fall is just a week away, it was time to bring out small touches of Autumn on the mantel. I've mentioned before that mantels are always a challenge for me. I strive for that "Goldilocks" look.

Book Page Pumpkin Candle Covers

Every once in a while I see a cute and easy craft project that I feel confident that I can accomplish in a few hours time without making myself crazy. Do you know what I mean?... does that ever happen to you? I used to get involved in these complicated projects that invariably took much more time than I thought it would, take more money than I planned to spend, and end up in a mess. yuk. So now I tend to try things that I feel are not above my skill level and that oftentimes I have the materials on hand.

Early Fall Sideboard and Vintage Basket Bouquet

A couple of weeks ago, I was out in the garage sorting tubs full of fall florals. Our garage is temperature controlled, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to do that. The previous owners  were very innovative and vented the sunroom AC into the garage, so thankyou! My fall tub count is far and away the most, even compared to Christmas décor. I was gathering like florals and took out these realistic looking straw/paper black eyed susans from the others. I just randomly stuck them in the old funeral basket which was within reach for later.

Layering Elements for a Summer to Fall Entry

This time of year; late August to early September, I'm about easing into the Fall season. Since it's still really hot outside I'm not quite ready for a lot of dark colors, leaves and bright orange pumpkins. I still want to keep it light and bright, but have a subtle change in color to the warmer hues of autumn.

Cottage Review: Tips to Transition to Fall...the longer version!

Hey friends, I have a little bonus blast from the past today. Unless you've been hiding in a deep dark cave to stay cool this last few weeks, you've seen a bunch of posts on saying "tootles" to this long hot summer and embracing the concept of fall and cooler temps.

Early Fall Door Basket and Front Porch

Last week I shared my 5 Quick and Easy Ideas to Get in the Mood for Fall . I added a bonus tip and that was to do a mini refresh on the front door with a basket or wreath that bridges the gap between summer and fall.

The Late-Summer Cupboard with a French Country Flair

One of my favorite decor themes for mid to late summer is "chickens". I've never raised chickens or been around them except for a short time when I was a kid and an odd motley group of wild/escaped chickens found our farmhouse. That's where the collection "seed" was planted. Most of my chicken figurines are not worth much, but fun to collect and display throughout the summer months. Back in the 60's one of the decor themes was "Early American" and with that, accessories took on a slightly "farmy" style. Chicken decor sprouted up everywhere, but of course mainly in the kitchen and dining room. (Think chickens and coffee grinders themed wallpaper...)

5 Quick and Easy Ideas to Get in the Mood for Fall... even if you're not quite ready.

I know so many of us want to ease into the Fall season, but it's too hot in August and early September to get much in the mood. As much as I love fall, digging into tubs and boxes in hot storage areas, dragging out a bunch of faux pumpkins, and slathering on the fake leaf garlands just isn't appealing when you're breaking out in a sweat. I'd much rather take an approach that's gradual and less stressful.

A Milk Glass Cake Pedestal for Summer Florals

Hi Friends, today you're in for a treat because a group of us vintage lovers are getting together to share our milk glass pieces and how we use them in our home decor. The Lifestyle of Love Hop occurs every other month and each time we share a certain vintage topic or collection. Cindy from County Road 407 coordinates all the fun! If you're coming from Cindy's, yay, so glad you're here.

Harvest Color and Sunflowers in the Hearth Room

Hey friends, last week I shared my late summer mantel with an oil painting that needed a little DIY and TLC. It was time for a change up after the patriotic theme of July. Late July into early fall brings a sunflower explosion around the house.

Cottage ReView: The Late-Summer Baker's Rack

Hello friends! Today I'm sharing a mash-up of some of my previous posts from the late summer Baker's Rack. August is the time of year I bring out all the pieces that evoke the wind-down of summer with a harvest feel. You'll see some of the same pieces styled in a bit different way, but they all have a vintage garden theme with lots of late season color with golds, greens, oranges deep reds and a bit of brown.

Vintage Painting and Sunflowers on the Mid-Summer Mantel

When August rolls around I feel a slight hint that fall is on the way. I'm not wishing summer away, but I know many of us are done with the heat and humidity. August means sunflowers and dried hydrangeas with darker colors of the harvest. There's a small shift toward my favorite time of the year.

Cottage Review: A Vintage Garden Book and the Wicker Settee

Hey Friends! Last week I shared a post from my first blogging house with a precious floral teapot and a small bouquet of hot pink (Barbie would love them) knockout roses. I mentioned then that growing roses wasn't something that I excelled at, but knockout roses were a good substitute and made me feel better about my not-so-green thumb. So when I ran across this section on roses in my vintage Better Homes and Gardens Garden Book I wanted to share it with you.

Sunflowers on the Summer Farm Table

Last week when I shared the Entry hall console with the seashell birdcages I mentioned that it was time to bring out the sunflowers, and other summertime florals for a update of the flower arrangement. The next day I took the plunge (literally) in my faux floral tubs and emerged with some pieces to change up my summer containers.

Cottage Review: Inspiration for Christmas in July

Hi friends, I'm jumping on the "Christmas in July" train and sharing a post I did last year when I joined a great group of bloggers for a hop sharing our favorite ideas for Christmas decor and traditions.

Vintage Birdcage Candleholder with Seashells

I get on a mini seashell obsession during the months of July and August. Seashells are "summer" to me, so I don't display them other times of the year. Since we live in the middle of the Midwest, (no where anything "coastal"), I have to take advantage of this time of year. So last week I shared a display in the Garden Room, and this week I have a fun Pinterest inspiration vignette in the Entry.

Rustic Garden Seashell Display

Hey friends...
Most of the red/white/blue is packed away, with a little red left behind for "summer". Mid-summer is here and I now have a short space of time to bring out the seashells and put together some fun displays and vignettes using some vintage elements as containers.

Lovely Lemony Decor

Hi friends! After any holiday is over, I'm always ready to change up the decorating vibe around the house; with the color scheme tending to be the first thing I want to reset. I've been decorating with patriotic color since the start of June with red/white/blue items and vignettes, so now I'm ready for a more midsummer look.

Happy July 4th!!! at All About Home #203

Hi Friends, Welcome to the All About Home Link Party! This weekend we've been working on outdoor/porch cleanup. Power washing and preparing to paint. We've been hot and dry here, but it's supposed to rain tomorrow, so I'm hoping there's dry time for a quick cookout in the afternoon. Do you/did you have big plans for this weekend? Hope you're having a great holiday.

Stars and Stripes in the Garden Room

Hello from the Garden Room sitting area this hot summer weekend, as we welcome the month of July and a long July 4th weekend. This summer I gave myself some time to enjoy decorating for the 4th of July, gathering all my red, and blue items for display.

Summer Holiday Cupboard with Patriotic Flair

When June comes around I gather my vintage dishes and a few elements that are red/white/blue and restyle my old pie safe cupboard. A few pieces of red transferware mix it up with my French faience pottery dishes. Then when I start decorating for July 4th holiday I just add in some small memorial flags. Presto, instant Patriotic décor.

Quick Change Up Patriotic Entry

I started thinking about the Entry and looking back through my pics from the last several years, and was surprised that I hadn't seen a post with my Entry Hall console decorated for July 4th. I do each year, but for some reason I hadn't shown it here on the blog.

Patriotic Tablescape with Red and Blue Transferware

A few weeks ago I was on a mission to find white vintage swirl plates. My mom had had a set back in the 70's and I had an American knockoff version back in the 80's. Those were long gone by now, but I wanted a white plate that could be used for any season or holiday to set a family table.

Summer Sideboard and Cookbook Cupboard With Patriotic Color

Hello there dear friends! I hope you all are having a wonderful Father's Day Weekend. I wanted to share part 2 of the Hearth Room patriotic decor, that I started earlier this week. The Hearth Room has a lot of fun spots to decorate seasonally, so I concentrated on the mantel and seating area in Part 1.

Vintage Flags in the Hearth Room

How has your "June and start to summer" been going? I know I say this at least once a week, but can you believe we're now into mid-June and even though it's not officially summer, it's definitely summer around here in southern Missouri.

Breadboards in Vintage Decor

Hello Friends and Welcome to the Lifestyle of Love bimonthly gathering where we share how we use vintage items in our décor. This month we have a fun topic of "Breadboards". These workhorse kitchen items of the past used to be plentiful at garage sales and flea markets but recently are becoming harder and harder to find. And those you can find have crazy high prices. So I'm sharing some old ones, some new ones, and reproduction pieces.

Summer Patriotic Door Basket with Ticking Fabric Ribbon

Last week I worked on getting my front porch presentable and decked out with a Patriotic Summer vibe. During the summer months I keep a red/white/blue theme with pillows, flowers, and my door basket. I add in flags the last couple of weeks of June into July and then remove them after that first week of July. That color scheme works throughout Summer until late August when I start bringing in some sunflowers and early Fall colors.
