September Styling in the Sitting Area

Did someone say that September is almost over? What? Where did September go? It seems like it was just yesterday that I was celebrating the fact that August was in the rear view mirror. 

Like many of you, Fall is my favorite time of year. I tend to jump headfirst into Fall décor and each few weeks fall looks change up with quilts, pillows, and vintage accessories. September tends to be lighter and brighter, and as the calendar changes and as we head deeper in to fall, colors deepen and textures change. 

Changing up the Garden Room sitting area is always one of the first places I start with new seasonal decor. I decide on a quilt and pillow for the wicker settee, then work from there. This was one of my earlier tries on the coffee table with the rusty pumpkin colored watering can. After a day or two it seemed too visually heavy for the coffee table so I started over on that side.

I always know what I have in mind, but putting it together sometimes takes awhile. I tried several different items here on the table and would live with them a day or two, then decide they weren't cutting it, so I'd try something else. 

So next I tried this vintage chalk fruit topiary and liked the lighter visual, but then felt it looked a bit strange just sitting out there in outer space. Nope, not going to work there.

One of my favorite pieces for any season is this large white wicker demi-john that I found several years ago. To bring a little "fall" into the look I added some faux garland and a few vintage flower pots.

Then I subtracted a bit from this tole tray and metal basket combination to pare it down a little. I love these little fall colored bottle brush trees to add some extra fun to Autumn vignettes.

Okay, I finally felt like things are balanced out.

The bench/coffee table and the wicker settee are just part of the overall grouping here in the Garden Room. The Holiday Cupboard, Baker's Rack, an antique Eastlake library table, and a wicker rocker also make up this fun and cozy  gathering place. 

The dried sunflower wreath is a staple during August and September, and this season it's here on the closed doors of the Holiday Cupboard.

A peek inside shows it's full of transferware, vintage chipmunk figurines, and pear branches. The green works with the brown transferware for a fun vintage harvest look. You can find the Holiday Cupboard for Early Fall HERE.

The lovely artful "Cathedral Windows" coverlet was made by my Mother-in-Law, back in the 90's when she was at her peak. Rust, creams, and browns bring the colors of fall together in a light and bright covering.

I found this adorable birds-on-a-branch lumbar pillow this spring at my friend's shop, Sweet Magnolia Farm.

Next week I'll be joining a group where we share our Fall Front Porches. I finally got with the program and updated my door basket, pillows and mums. Heirloom pumpkins are literally not to be found locally this season. I'm still hunting!
