Easy Boxwood and Ribbon Wreath and the Valentine's Cupboard

Valentine's Day is definitely one of those holiday themes that show up in the "Holiday Cupboard".  I've loved antique and vintage paper goods and ephemera from the first time I saw a vintage school Valentine card and found a few pieces of my paternal grandfather's cards to my grandmother in their old attic. Old Valentine postcards are easy collectibles as so many of them were created in the early 1900's. School Valentine parties and sweetheart's notes were popular among young and old alike.

Vintage Cottage Weekend: Winter Sitting Area and the Baker's Rack

Winter décor is a time for me to clean the slate from the saturated colors of fall and the Christmas season. I love color throughout the year and I'm always ready for a new seasonal color scheme and vintage pieces. I've always been one to get bored with color and pattern no matter how much I enjoy them, so it's a good thing that there are the 4 seasons and holidays throughout the year.

Vintage Cottage Weekend: Layering Vintage Elements on the Antique Sideboard

Even though I started packing away Christmas décor after the 1st, I finally got the last of it stored away. This could be called Part 2 of the Winter Hearth Room that I shared earlier this week. It's always a bit much photo wise to include the sideboard and cookbook cupboard in the same post as the mantel and rest of the hearth room.

Cozy Winter Mantel and Hearth Room

I spend a lot of time in the hearth room and whatever season it might be I look for it to be a cozy comfy space. But during the winter it becomes more of a priority for a warm inviting refuge.

January Cottage Cupboard and a Winter Lookback

Hello friends and Happy Weekend! For a few weeks in January we have a small bit of time that's totally dedicated to warm, cozy, and comfy. After Christmas and before Valentines Day; it's a time to relax in front of the fire, read a good book, watch a movie, and curl up in a soft warm blanket... without a ton of shopping, big meals to cook or a deadline looming on the calendar.

New Year Wishes and Family Celebrations

Hi dear Friends. I wanted to wish you all a most Happy and Blessed New Year. You know I don't post family photos much. But I really wanted to share a few since it is the holidays and we have a lot to celebrate and look forward to in the coming year. I haven't shared a recent photo of our granddaughter, "Miss O" for over a year. She's quite the animated little character and brightens our whole family's lives. She's our only grand and most probably will be our only grand.

Christmas Scenes from the Garden Room

Hopefully, even though it's after Christmas, you can still enjoy seeing a bit more Christmas around my house. Before Christmas we were unexpectedly hit with some emergency home maintenance situations that required several days away from my already packed schedule. We had a roof leak that all the sudden required attention and that meant traveling around our area to view homes with roof options. I've learned that it's important to look at roofing at multiple "real life" residences. I've seen some big mistakes in roofing choices so we made sure which would work best with our taupe brick ranch before signing on the dotted line. I'm looking forward to the update. Our current roof is blah, blah, blah brown and does nothing for curb appeal.

Merry and Bright in the Christmas Dining Room

This seems to be my favorite look for the Dining Room and easy to put together, since I've done some variation of this over the last 5 years that we've been at this house. It has my go-to elements like my Christmas plaid and burlap holly tablerunner combo, one of my lanterns, and my tried and true holly topiaries.

The Garden Room Sitting Area and the Christmas Cupboard

This may sound a bit odd, but after years of bringing out vintage seasonal and holiday decorations, there are pieces that feel like old friends. My Tartan tins and vintage wool throws, nativity sheep and enamelware kettles, red transferware and ironstone; these are all things that I've grown to love and are basics for my "celebrating" the joy of Christmas.

It's in the Details: The Christmas Hearth Room

Earlier this month I shared my hearth room and my white pieces that reside against the long wall, but didn't get the chance to share the details. There was a lot going on in this big space, so today I thought I'd come back and take a closer look at the sideboard, cookbook cupboard, and the little Christmas tree. If you missed that post you can click here.

Last Minute Thanksgiving Sitting Area and the Baker's Rack.

I know it's a bit late for sharing Thanksgiving décor, but I like to keep a visual diary of how I decorate for each holiday and season here on the blog. You all know I love Thanksgiving, and this year decorating has been a bit thrown off because of the lateness of the holiday. But I did decorate and enjoy the late fall turkey fun. So I'm sharing the sitting area and highlighting the other posts from the Garden Room this season.

Rustic Transferware Tablescape for Thanksgiving

Hello friends, I'm re-sharing a favorite Thanksgiving tablescape post that I created back in 2013 at our original "blog house". I bring this out of the moth balls every few years because to me it's still up-to-date for a vintage style holiday gathering. I know it's later in the Thanksgiving season, but it might give us a last minute idea or two for our own holiday tables using vintage dishes and ironstone with autumn (or any season) color.

Transitioning from Fall and Thanksgiving to Christmas

Contemplating the Age Old Question...
When to decorate for Christmas; or more plainly... when do you start decorating for Christmas even when you love Thanksgiving and don't want to let that go. Well, I've learned some tips and ideas for making the transition starting to bring out Christmas things but still enjoy the look and feel of Thanksgiving and late fall.

Tweaking a Seed Box Display for Thanksgiving

A few weeks ago I put together a fun late October seed box display on the farm table in the Garden Room. I've really enjoyed it and wanted to keep the basic elements, but give it a re-boot for Thanksgiving. It was an easy fix with just a few pieces.

Vintage Cottage Thanksgiving in the Holiday Cupboard

Hello to November! We're in the Holiday Cupboard today, playing with turkeys and vintage Thanksgiving pieces to put together a grouping that celebrates the last month of fall. Before we get into all the Christmas decorating and excitement, I like to take a bit to commemorate a time of blessing and Thanksgiving. It's easy to run past the Thanksgiving holiday; to get up the tree and deck the halls, but let's pay tribute to this warm and cozy time of Giving Thanks.

Are You Ready for Some Thanksgiving Inspiration?

Hello Friends, this is the time of year that I'm a bit crazy juggling 3 seasonal decor themes. "Mid" fall with some nostalgic October fun, late fall with Thanksgiving, and then starting to think about Christmas by bringing out the Christmas tree and evergreens. Here we go into the slide toward the holidays, so during the next little bit I'll be sharing some inspiration for Thanksgiving into Christmas as I make the transition from Fall to the Holidays.

October Garden Room and the Baker's Rack

We're at the final stretch of October, and I'm sharing my Garden Room wicker sitting area with fall seasonal color. This flying geese patterned vintage quilt is one of my favorites with golds and autumnal hued fabrics. It almost always ends up on the settee at some point in Fall.

Fall Vignettes with Faux Flowers and a Sweet Floral Gift

This little mishmash post came about because of an empty orange Du Monde Chicory Coffee can. We bought this chicory coffee several years ago and when emptied out, my husband mentioned I might want to save it because of the advertising and pretty orange color. Good call, Hubby! When this fall rolled around I was excited to see how I could use it in a small floral arrangement.

October Seed Box on the Farm Table

Oh October, my favorite month!!!

We don't have many changing leaves yet; it's been a two month dry spell, so I don't know if we'll have anything too pretty for leaf peeping. But I'm trying to make up for the lackluster outside viewing by having some fun with the inside fall décor.

Mantel with my Favorite Fall Wreath

Hi Friends, I always look forward to fall and decorating the mantel to create a cozy comfortable space in the hearth room. I'm all about autumn hues and changing leaves, pumpkins, pears, and dried hydrangeas. Quilts and pillows and cozy throws make the seating area a great place to cuddle up, have a cup of tea and read.

Welcome to the Fall Front Porch

Hi friends, Happy October! It's taken me awhile to get the porch decorated this season because it's been so warm around here and the yard has been a mess because of the drought we're in. No sense drawing attention to the porch when the yard looks atrocious. Although...  we have a long school pick-up line each afternoon at 3:30 on the street in front and I sort of feel an obligation to have something nice for them to look at. Nothing like a line of 40 cars coming by critiquing your outdoor décor each afternoon!

The Cookbook Cupboard and a Paper Pumpkin Garland

This old cupboard is a fun spot for kitchen related vintage items along with my cookbooks and cookie jars. My scroll-y chalkboard is a constant background on this piece as it causes whatever is in front to literally pop. Fall is always a favorite season to decorate this spot, which was inspired by my kitchen china cabinet top in our last house.

Creating an Autumn Cloche

Happy First Day of Fall!

My last post I shared the Dining Room with a mini Home Tour; if you haven't seen that post you can catch it HERE. I focused on the Dining Room table with a large urn with fall natural elements, but I also shared the buffet with several cloches dressed up for Fall. So today I thought I'd focus on the grouping of cloches that celebrate fall and a few others that in the past I've put together for the Autumn Season.

Autumn Home Tour

In the Entry and Dining Room

Hello dear friends, September is speeding by and we're now headlong into the Autumn season. Even though the long awaited fall weather seems to be dragging it's feet for most of us, our indoor spaces are reflecting the harvest colors and décor that are a yearly hallmark for our love for Fall.

Time for Fall in the Holiday Cupboard

We've had a few cooler days and nights and it's really got me going for fall. I know it will warm up again and maybe have a few 80's until the end of October, but it's so wonderful to know that fall is truly on it's way.

Welcome to Fall: The Kitchen Niche

As you all probably know, I have this smallish niche in the kitchen that we inherited from the previous owner's kitchen renovation. It housed their big screen tv and a sound system, but didn't fit our needs. Trying to match cabinets was vetoed, so I have used it for a display area for seasonal décor.

Fall Backyard Naturals for a Vintage Tote

No matter the season or weather, our multitude of trees seem to find various ways to litter sticks and tree debris. Right now it's acorn leaf clusters, walnuts and hickory nuts. We try to keep on top of it by getting out weekly and doing some yard clean up. My husband does most of the work, but hey, I'm there to cheer him on. Most of the yard junk heads to the yard waste disposal, but I can quickly get waylaid if I take time to look for interesting natural specimens. Taking a break I grabbed one of my chippy white vintage totes and put together a fun seasonal gathering of natural organic elements. (okay maybe a few faux pieces hopped in for more great color)

How to Use Pears for a Seasonal Transition to Fall

By mid-August, I'm always ready to start making small changes that lean toward fall. When I was younger I'd tackle it all in a day or a weekend, but now I have to do it in stages. One day it was summer; the next day it was totally fall. But actually I really prefer the small changes that come throughout the late summer, day by day. The changes of the light, the outdoor temps, nature's color in foliage, grasses and sky. It's all beautiful and I love to replicate it all indoors.

5 Quick and Easy Ideas to Get You in the Mood for Fall

I know so many of us want to ease into the Fall season, but it's too hot in August and early September to get much in the mood. As much as I love fall, digging into tubs and boxes in hot storage areas, dragging out a bunch of faux pumpkins, and slathering on the fake leaf garlands just isn't appealing when you're breaking out in a sweat. I'd much rather take an approach that's gradual and less stressful.

Garden Room Sitting Area in Harvest Color

Please be sure and scroll to the end of the post to read a Blogkeeping notice!!

Hard to believe it's mid-August, but I'm ready to start thinking about Fall decor. But before I bring out the pumpkins and fall leaves, I'm sharing a few last minute late-summer spaces. The garden room is filled with late deep summer color with golds, greens, and dark reds in harvest hues.

Late Summer Entry with 2 Mini Updates

Subtle changes are showing up around the house, now that we're into August. This is the time I switch gears and look toward fall. As I've said before, August used to be my least favorite time of the year, but now I look at it differently... it's a transition time leading up to the cooler months and my favorite season. Autumn.

Mid-Summer Roost in the Cupboard

The end of July signals a change in the atmosphere for me. I'm one of those people that while I enjoy summer, I don't enjoy the heat and I have always looked forward to the slow slide to early fall. Don't get me wrong, summer has beautiful memories and moments, but the promise of more moderate temps of autumn pull me along.

Floral and Ticking Summer Tablescape

My favorite print for all things summer is indigo ticking. I've said it before, dark blue ticking is like a "neutral", because it pairs with almost everything.

You love florals? ...ticking pairs up.
Paisley? ... ticking pairs up.
Plaids are your thing? ... ticking pairs up.

Vintage Baskets for Every Season

Hello friends, Welcome to our bimonthly gathering of vintage loving décor peeps. This is where we share how we use vintage pieces and collectibles in our home decorating. Coming from parents who were antiquing nuts and myself buying and selling vintage and antique pieces for my whole adult life, I come by incorporating old pieces into my home spaces as a way of life.

Vintage Patriotic Garden Room and the Baker's Rack

It's hard to believe that June is rolling over to July and that means half a year is behind us. I hope you've been enjoying your summer days and having some special warm weather memories.
You know me, I'm a vintage loving person who loves to decorate for holidays. I'm in the Garden Room sharing the cozy little sitting area where I enjoy coffee or a cool drink in the afternoon.

Patriotic Mantel and the Summer Hearth Room

Welcome to Summer friends, I hope you are able to enjoy it and not have to stay indoors because of the intense heat. We were watching TV and endless commercials with people enjoying their "Summer" activities outdoors and I lamented to my husband that "I love summer except for the heat". I guess that's how it's always been. I've just been able to handle it until the last several years.

Antique Sideboard with Blue Transferware and Ironstone

I've been trying to take my own advice by taking decorating at a slower pace. I'm changing things up with the seasons, but also trying to not let it overwhelm me. During early summer I love using patriotic elements and color for décor, but adding flags to a basic summertime "look" goes a long way for me.

Hurray for the Red, White and Blue in the Cupboard

When June rolls around it's time to restyle the Cupboard with a patriotic theme. I like to give it a Summer refresh where I can add in some mini flags and and small bits of patriotic ephemera when it's close to July 4th. I don't have a lot of actual patriotic pieces, but rely on vintage china and pottery that reflect summer and our patriotic summer holidays with color.

Summer Farmtable with Patriotic Flags

Hi Friends, how's your start to June and summer? I've been slowly transitioning my home decor from "Spring" to "Summer" this last week or so. My seasonal decorating relies on color along with favorite vintage linens and elements. I like to reflect nature's current color, so that my "indoor" views match my "outdoor" views. Spring focuses on pastels while summer brings out the brighter colors and concentrates on a bit of the red/white/blue.
