Mid-Summer Door Basket with Ticking

Hi Friends, I just wanted to pop in with a quick few pics of my current Mid-Summer Front Door Basket. You may remember we have a bit of a bird problem on the front porch, as they try to make nests in the basket within about 15 minutes of me hanging it out. But this year we put up a nesting box in the corner, so the illegal nesting in the basket has stopped...

Orange Buffalo Check Pillows and a Ticking Quilt for Fall

Sometimes all it takes to start the transition to another season can be as quick and easy as changing up a few well placed pillows, and pillows are usually the first thing I change up for the season. Late last month I posted 10 Tips to Transition to Fall where I share how I have an easy plan to move into the upcoming season. I know I just shared the Hearth Room in August, but these new pillows and quilt brought a different look and feel to the space.

Garden Room with Sunflowers and Ticking

Hello Friends! I've had a few posts where I've added some Sunflowers to the decor, so I thought I'd share the latest in The Garden Room on the church pew, and a few more pics of the Farm table with Sunflowers in the Ice Cream Bucket.

New Kilim Pillows in the Hearth Room

Having an off -white slipcovered sofa, chair and ottoman has really enabled me to be more creative in my Hearth Room decor. I'd been obsessed with white slipcovered furniture for years, but I'd never had the right space to put them in. Now that I am livin' my "white sofa dream", I'm going a little crazy with monthly change-ups. A quilt and pillow stash and a "no-stepladder-needed" mantel have made it much easier to change things up.

Late Summer Sitting Area and an August ReView

Hi Friends, as usual, when it comes to the end of the month (or season), I find there are pics and places I had wanted to share with you all, but I never got around to posting. The Kitchen Sitting Area is a spot that changes almost weekly, since it's the spot that I hang out in the most.

Summer Door Decor in the Sitting Room

I've been "Summer-fying" the kitchen sitting area this weekend, and you all know that means changing up the quilt, pillows, and the florals that decorate the old door and mirror behind the wicker settee. I had this post named "Summer Swag in the Sitting Room", but it dawned on me some of you all might not be familiar with that term... a swag... meaning a gathered bunch of flower stems.  It's not a wreath and it's not in a basket. I guess it gets it's name from being similar to a swag curtain. Fabric that drapes down and is gathered together and sometimes tied with a ribbon. OK, whatever we call it, I have one here on the old door.

Summer Buffet Scape with Ticking Tablerunner and Sunflowers

A few weeks ago I shared some inspiration of one of my favorite Late Summer decor combos; Indigo Ticking Stripes with anything "Sunflowers". Ticking brings to mind lazy breezy summer afternoons on the porch swing, and Sunflowers are those wonderful happy faces that let us know that Fall isn't too far away.

I have a cupboard full of mismatched ironstone and transferware, and that includes a stack of old platters that I use for cookouts. A good steak or Bar-B-Que requires something substantial so I put a few things together for an impromptu Summer gathering.

Vegging Out and Some Late Summer Colors...

I'm feeling a little Fall in the air and the color of the sky.
So I've changed up a few things here in the Kitchen Sitting Area,
one of my favorite places to be...

Summer Favorites: Ticking Stripes and Sunflowers

I found the most wonderful antique ticking stripe settee last week while browsing the web, but I was using my IPad and it was in the wee hours of the morning. I was having trouble when I tried to PIN things, so I couldn't find the image until just now. But all the hunting I did for it got my inspiration going once more for one of my favorite seasonal combos...all things Ticking Stripe and Florals... Mainly bouquets and arrangements with Sunflowers. So I thought I'd share with you some photos that just say "Summer" to me...

This is a photo from Worthy Goods Blog from 2014.
Crazy how seeing something can make such a big impression.
This had me on the hunt for some Ticking Fabric.
If you get a minute drop by for more inspiring show photos.

Sunflowers on the Sunporch

I'm counting down the days to September...

And I'm transitioning my decor to those early Fall textures and tones. Of course Sunflowers are my flower "du jour" for late August, as they have those wonderful muted colors of golds, greens, and browns that I love so much. My Summer flowers are starting to go, so before long, mums will be showing up on the deck and front porch.

I love having a seasonal wreath on the mirror which hangs on the old chippy door. It always sets the seasonal mood out here on the porch. This is one I've had for a couple of years, but I still love the colors and the "dried" sunflowers look so real.

It's been a slow week around here, since I've been restricted on driving until later this week.  But last week I had taken pics of the settee's new quilt "outfit" for Early Fall. (last week it was "Late Summer", this week it's "Early Fall") So I'm just now getting to show them too you.

Please ignore my messy drawers peeping through.

My ticking pillows are pretty much a staple out here no matter what the season. Their black stripe is so easy to mix with florals and plaids.

Faux Sunflowers in an old painted white wooden ice cream bucket.

My washed gray basket from last week.

A little Sunflower bouquet in a white ironstone pitcher.

My Hull apple things are still out, but come next week,
the pumpkins will arrive... yay.

Always love the colorful illustrations in this little flower guide from 1945.

and now a question...

do you remember this amazing Sunflower Head from two years ago?
I've been trying to find another large one like this for ages. This one still had too much moisture in it and it molded inside the cloche. It made me so upset that I hadn't realized it was happening, and now I cannot locate a source for another one. Does anyone out there grow these that I might purchase one from you? It doesn't have to be this big, but I would love to have another one, and cannot find one anywhere. Let me know if you do or know someplace I could find one. I loved this look!

OK...you guys are in for some fun this Thursday!! Since I was MIA last week, I'm dedicating Be Inspired to my 4 Year Anniversary Give Away. You have to wait, but be here with bells on, Thursday, because I have a Give Away for 2 lucky followers out here. I can guarantee you'll LOVE it!

Around the house and a photo bomb...

This is turning out to be a busy weekend. The big kids are here for their 20th high school reunion ... yikes...just saying that makes me feel old. And Sunday is my last day at Relics Antique Mall, so I'll be clearing out whatever is left of the booth and call it done. I've loved the experience of having a space, but for the last several years I've had to do things on my own, and that part isn't fun. Time to move on to new things, and I'm looking forward to having that day each week to catch up on some other projects that need taking care of.

And speaking of flea market shopping, I found this great little "God Bless Our Home" cross stitch recently.

I have a little soft spot for "homestyle" cross stitch pieces; I created my share back in the 80's and 90's. I always admire the amount of time the stitcher put into the piece and when I see them for just a few dollars I always want to rescue them and give them a new home. I found this one a few months ago, but the dark frame didn't work for me, so when I painted my kitchen table it got the ASCP treatment.

The browns and golds and orange on the shutters made me think to put it out here on the sunporch with the other late summer colors. I tried several places but it ended up on the baker's rack.

And while I was digging through some cabinets yesterday, I found a good bunch of tan striped ticking that I bought last year for a table runner....totally had forgotten about it. So now maybe I can get that made since I'll have a little more time.

LOVE this wonderful wreath!

So, while I was out in the sunporch takings pics,
who shows up for a little nibbling of the greens?

hmmm...which one looks tastier?

I guess we all need our fiber...

Vintage Inspiration Friday #50 Vintage French Ticking

I've said several times that I'm not a seamstress, or even particularly adept at sewing, but necessity and obsession play a roll in my attempts at projects. So my latest obsession...no comments here...has been with making table runners for my Dining Room. Yes, you know, "the Dining Room That Has Furniture That I'd Love to Paint, but Just Can't Quite Get There" uh huh, THAT Dining Room.

First I used some fabric left over from my chair seat recovering from last year, natural Osnaberg, and a little nubby muslin for a ruffle. Then, once I did that I realized I really wanted a little somethin' in the way of color and pattern. So when I found this roll of French Inspired Ticking at JoAnne's Fabric that was on clearance, I grabbed it quick. Hopefully, it will be my next project, and two pillows to match for my extra Dining side chairs.

Here's one of the said Dining Room Chairs painted white, I know this set would be fabulous painted. OK, enough of that. Someone slap me please... maybe a winter project...or not.

So now back to French inspired fabric and tablerunners...

I found these woven placemats with handles a few weeks ago at Relics,
and when I went back for more...
they were gone, boo hoo.

Orphan red transferware and my French monogrammed tea towels.

I really love this fabric.

I found these other pieces of the real deal on Pinterest from Ebay.

Mine's pretty close, huh?
