Last Minute Thanksgiving Sitting Area and the Baker's Rack.

I know it's a bit late for sharing Thanksgiving décor, but I like to keep a visual diary of how I decorate for each holiday and season here on the blog. You all know I love Thanksgiving, and this year decorating has been a bit thrown off because of the lateness of the holiday. But I did decorate and enjoy the late fall turkey fun. So I'm sharing the sitting area and highlighting the other posts from the Garden Room this season.

There are so many stages during the fall season. I start out with lighter colors and fabrics and by the time Thanksgiving rolls around the weather has cooled enough to bring out the heavier wool throws and darker hues with more texture.

This vintage Scottish wool throw is a vintage market find from years ago. I love the deep browns, burgundy and mustard plaid. I leave out my pumpkins from earlier in the fall, and add in my turkeys. It's my go-to covering for my wicker settee in the garden room sitting area. The large turkey on linen pillow cover is an Amazon purchase from last year.

My Big Boy resin turkey with a makeover about 15 years ago, always makes a showing for his big day. This month he's taken up residence in my vintage wooden crate.

Woodland critters run around the house in their last minute effort to get prepared for hibernation. There's always a squirrel, chipmunk, deer or rabbit to keep an eye out for. Our little 2 year old granddaughter enjoyed my furry critter collection last week and had fun steering them around the house in her Fisher Price shopping cart.

She also got her exercise by hoisting and carrying pumpkins around.

The baker's rack is filled with vintage finds in fall colors.

The small vertical spice box with drawers has been a fun addition to the baker's rack for the last few years. The open drawers are the perfect spot for mini pieces of dccor.

Did you catch my last post on using carts and wagons?

I know many of you are already heading into Christmas (as I am), so thanks so much for coming by. Happy Thanksgiving Week!

  1. Those colors are so rich, warm and wonderful, Debra. And I love your fun pillows. I see you have "His Majesty" too -- I have to pull mine out this weekend!

    1. I'd love to have a complete set of the dinnerware, but time to use them and storage space is a real consideration for buying dishes. I love them though, especially brown transferware. Hope you've gotten your home back in order after your trip. I know you had a ton of "projects" to do. Have a great Thanksgiving, Jeanie!

  3. I enjoyed a last look since I'm a "not till December for Christmas" gal. Fall is my favorite, so I hate when all beautiful fall colors go. Living in SoCal our trees are just now still in their glory although over the years we've lived here I now think of them as the whole holiday season color

    1. I usually start changing over in mid November; adding a little Christmas but keeping out a lot of late fall and Thanksgiving. But as things take me longer to get accomplished now, and the late date I knew I I better get busy. Fall is a long season for me, but I always hate to see it put away. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

  4. Debra, I always delight in seeing how you add seasonal touches to your baker's rack. Love the idea of adding the little spice box of drawers and the seed box. Texture and height interest always makes a statement. Your turkeys and turkey platter speak my turkey language, and love the feathers in the transferware pitcher. I have a prize bouquet of rooster feathers from my sister. When Monnie passed she immediately came to be with me, and she brought me a bouquet of her rooster's fine feathers. I put the bouquet in a vase and it is ever present in our home. It will always be a favorite gift. Interesting how the simplest of things can bring lasting pleasure. It cost her nothing, and she knew me well enough to know that I would value these feathers as priceless because they were from nature and a gift from her.
    Happy Thanksgiving!

    1. What a wonderful heartfelt gift. I love birds of all kinds, and find them fascinating. Our neighborhood Canadian geese are so funny, smart, and have such personalities. I had to stop hand feeding them last year because we were inundated with "teenagers" that were a little unruly. I always appreciate your sweet comments, Sarah. Thanks so much for coming by to visit. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving and start of the Christmas season!

  5. I always enjoy seeing your Fall decor. I have a lot of autumn stuff and I like to enjoy it. I keep Christmas up until 12 night so I am not in a hurry. This year I am dipping into blue and bells for Christmas.
