Spring Traditions at All About Home #186

Hi Friends, this week was my Birthday week, and our older daughter and her fiancé came down for a quick visit and dinner out. The weather is on an upward trend toward nicer days and warmer temps, but typical first week of March... 30 to 75 degrees and back, in just a few days. Of course we'll have some cooler weather up and down till the beginning of May. Several days of outside work improved the looks of the yard (thankyou hubby!) And a visit from our new goosey friend for the kids to enjoy. These aren't my pics, because I haven't been able to get a good one of him. He's larger than his Canadian Geese friends, with different markings, and very handsome. He and his mate (regular Canadian goose) come by at least once a day to visit and snack on birdseed.

Bring on the Green in the Holiday Cupboard

March always sees the green transferware show up in the Holiday Cupboard, since St. Patrick's Day is my unofficial start to (early) Spring. And it's my birthday month too, so I make it a fresh start after a long cold and dreary winter. When I first started collecting green transferware I thought I'd be limited in displaying them. But now they come out in late February and stick around through Spring and early Summer until July 4th decorating.

Farmtable Vignette with Daffodils

Hello friends, it's been since the beginning of the year that I've shared what's happening here on the farm table in the Garden Room. It's late February now so it was time for an early Spring look with some daffodils and narcissus with a few pussy willows mixed in for a natural look. It's still wintery looking outdoors, but at least I can have a little green and color indoors.

Between Valentine's Day celebrations and the Superbowl, I imagine many of us were busy with all the fun. We're not football people, but since the Chiefs are from Kansas City, Missouri we thought we'd watch a bit of the last of the game. Have to admit it was super exciting.

Vintage Valentine Jewelry and Art

Monday at the All About Home Link Party I featured a post with a wonderful piece of Valentine Art. It was created in the style of antique and vintage art pieces created with vintage jewelry pieces and buttons. Traditionally these were created with a black or dark velvet or velveteen background.  Often times we see these for Christmas in the shape of a Christmas tree, but this was done in a heart design that I absolutely fell in love with.

Besides, it's good therapy for me to design and create with dishes and ephemera. And since it's Valentine's Day I'm gathering all things floral, sweet, pink, and teensy bits of red!

How to Make a Moss Covered Heart

I've always loved using natural elements in seasonal decor and floral arrangements. If it's made of twigs and moss, dried leaves, nuts, acorns, pinecones, dried flowers etc. I'm on it. When I can create something that's holiday related and I can use it year after year, then all the more fun.

Back in 2016 I'd been seeing a lot of gorgeous heart forms covered in moss on Pinterest and in boutique vintage markets and floral shops. Whether it was cardboard, a paper mache puffy heart, wooden cutout, grapevine wreath, or a variety of other forms... I was determined to come up with my own mossy heart creation. Valentine Pocket Pillow

Hello Friends, today I wanted to share an adorable little pillow that I bought a while ago from a sweet blogging friend. I think it must have been about 10 years ago. Judy lived in Oklahoma and her blog was 20 North Ora. Many of you blogging at the time will remember Judy and her wonderful Etsy Shop where she created and sold lovely handmade linens with a vintage touch. I bought several pieces from her that I still use each year to decorate.

Vintage Cottage Weekend and the January Cupboard

Hello friends and Happy Weekend! For a few weeks in January we have a small bit of time that's totally dedicated to warm, cozy, and comfy. After Christmas and before Valentines Day; it's a time to relax in front ot the fire, read a good book, watch a movie, and curl up in a soft warm blanket... without a ton of shopping, big meals to cook or a deadline looming on the calender.

Winter Whites Tabletop Vignette

I don't share this little table often because it tends to be a catch all for whatever I'm putting together in the Garden Room. But it has a sweet little shelf where most of my ironstone pitchers live year round and my vintage silver tray and a mix and match coffee service. It turned out that it was a perfect spot with just the right amount of space to pull together a "winter white" look for these early days of January.

One of the first places that I start making a transition from Christmas to "Winter" is in the Dining Room. No matter the holiday I always seem so have stray bits and pieces of rooms and vignettes that get left behind. Big holidays are usually the ones where I take tons of pictures, then run out of time. Hello All, I hope you all had a wonderful and blessed Christmas. We had our older daughter and her fiance stay, and we had a low-key Christmas Eve and Day. Our younger daughter and husband and the new baby stayed in because of the weather and high viral rate of RSV and flu in our area. Our older daughter and I made a quick visit on Christmas Eve to take presents and for Erin to get to see her. We masked up and stayed just a short while. We have lots of Christmases ahead, and want her to stay well.

Wood Block Christmas Gingerbread Houses

It seems like each year there's a new trend in Christmas decor, and the Gingerbread theme is popping up everywhere. I love Gingerbread houses and Gingerbread Men/Women/People cookies as they are so traditional and geared toward the "kid" in us. I think most of us at one time or another attempted a Gingerbread House or cookies. The fun is in the creative process. Also nice if it turns out cute and actually stays in one piece!!
