Around the house...

Hey you all...
hope you're having a good weekend!

I thought I'd just share some of the sunporch tweaking that's been going on this week. There's been a hint of Fall around here, as the weather has cooled off a little this week, and the "light" is changing. You know what I mean...the angle of the sun shifts just slightly and the light starts to change. Shadows and colors and even the blue in the sky takes on a subtle difference from Summer.

This week has been a little slower and I've had time to think about a few things out here. One in particular is this basket hanging on an old screen door that I've had probably for about 10 years. It was a dark sage green and it really needed to be freshened up, so I gave it a coat of some taupe/gray "test" paint that I'd bought last year when painting the master bedroom.

then I did a wash in a darker gray craft paint mixture...

then highlighted it again in the taupe.

...an easy fix for something that was dusty and a little blah looking.
Some faux sunflowers brought it up to season.

I don't show this corner of the sunporch often
as this little wicker tea cart has a habit of getting too cluttered.
hmmm... that might be why you're only seeing the top part...

But I have a cute little vintage metal shelf
that holds a few of my English Cottages...

that I haven't shared for awhile.
sugar and creamer and salt and pepper.

a candle and another salt and pepper.

Here's an old celluloid thermometer and butterfly print
that was a salesman sample for advertising...

is tucked into my wicker floral basket along with an ivy.

...and here are the last of the hydrangeas that
had already started to wilt on the shrub.

these purples are so pretty.
That bush started out white,
then the tips started to change to pink
and now this deep magenta.
The blooms haven't been big this year,
but the color has been spectacular.

You might have noticed that I've already changed out the quilts and pillows to more of an Autumn palette. I'll share more of the "Early Fall" sunporch changes this next week.

so tell me...what are you doing this weekend...?

Sunporch switcheroo...

or...
I can't make up my mind.
but more on that momentarily.

First I want to show you a sweet pillow that my talented and creative friend Judy Clark sent me awhile back. Judy's blog is 20 North Ora and she has an Etsy Shop by the same name. I featured Judy's wonderful Mother's Day Memory Pillows yesterday at The Marketplace. If you haven't seen them you'll want to grab one for your mom or yourself. Each season I tuck in something that reflects the mood or holiday of the season. This month that cute little pocket is filled with vintage French seed labels, and sitting out here in the sunporch.

Don't tell anyone,
but I take out my frustrations on my sunporch decor.

That may sound a little weird, but when I need a change or to freshen things up, this is where I usually head. I've been fantasizing thinking of new sofas for the living room, but that's not a reality at this moment, so it's much easier and less expensive to come out here and change up the quilts.

The sunporch is my playroom.

My homemade vintage seed boxes are here on the baker's rack..

along with my only two pieces of Bluebird China;
Little cups sans saucers.

I found this little oval birdie tin a few years ago,
I think it might be a "See's Candy" promo candy tin.

one side...

then the other.

The weather has been so strange;
80's and sunny one day and snowing the next.
I think we have missed most of Spring and will now head right in to Summer.

I tried a few other quilts on the wicker settee,
but they didn't stay long.
too much red for May...
maybe later in the season.

Love this Grandmother's Flower Garden Quilt from my m-i-l,
but I needed sunglasses.

but in the end they were too bright and summery for now.
so I opted for a feedsack quilt and my "go to" floral and ticking pillows.

There is a floral on the other side of this little quilted throw,
but I changed it our for the little geometric stripe instead.

My three little glass and iron nesting tables,
and my chalkware French Girl lamp.

I always have some Ivy "taking root" in this little English Cottage Teapot.

And this is the coffeetable as it looks this morning with the picnic tin and old tools...

OK, I'm feeling better...
do you have a spot that you wear out changing up?
therapy session now in progress...

Vintage Inspiration #94 Patriotic Party and a Give Away

You didn't think you'd get by without a
sunporch 4th of July now did you?

I love to change things up on the sunporch for the holidays and seasons, so decorating with a patriotic feel lasts most of the summer. I found this great Patriotic Bunting a few weeks ago and knew this was the perfect spot for it.

My hubbs collects old flags, so I stole borrowed this one which is out here year round. It's faded and worn, but says so much to me. I think it must be an old school room flag, with 48 stars. I have it draped over my old chippy door.

Each year it's something different out here, as I like to change up the quilts and pillows. This time I went with my frenchy red toile quilt with ticking and floral pillows and a needlepoint one in the middle. Patriotic, but romantic...

An old plant stand is one of the girls' favorite perches

and a zinc flower bucket with a little "red, white, and blue"

Hope you enjoyed the visit!
