A little tweaking makes it Thanksgiving...

Drum roll please...
"The Late Fall Mantel"
da ta da da!!

OK, hope you know I'm kidding.

Just a matter of bringing out the turkeys
in exchange for the snowy owls.

I've kept everything else that I started with back in September. My mantel has been through a few change outs, but now that it's Thanksgiving, most of it will be swapped out for Christmas in just a little over a week.

Here's the Mid Fall Mantel

and the "Super Early Fall Mantel"...

you can see I tweaked the flowers a little too.

Now my Johnson Bros. Turkey Platter gets center stage.

A few small changes in the Entry

with a white turkey covered vegetable...

same for the hallway sideboard;
you guessed it...
more turkeys.

another turkey platter...
(I got more folks)

Salt and Pepper turkeys

big fat turkey painted white...
(He used to be multi colored but was obnoxiously loud,
so he was slapped with the paintbrush)

I'm not done with the turkeys.
You have to suffer through at least one more post of them.
maybe more...

What's on the sideboard this month...

Happy Weekend Everyone...

This is a rainy and cool one here in SW Missouri. But after this year's extreme heat and drought it will be a long time before I complain about rainy and cool. nope...happy for the change in seasons here. I wanted to share a few more spaces around the house that I've been decorating for Fall, so a rainy gray day doesn't effect the hall sideboard. It's always gray and hard to photo since there isn't any natural light. I always feel like I have to start off with an apology for the photos. They're never very good because I have to have all the bright lights on just to get anything remotely usable. But here goes...

I changed out my galvanized flower bucket
for a wheat sheaf and some Fall apples and pears.
(oooh, and I found this great burlap-y linen wired ribbon, too)

I added in a fruit lithograph from the early 1900's, to the vintage window hanging there. I love that old window as a backdrop to my seasonal displays. Actually, I have a pair of these old lithographs, companion pieces, but this is my favorite with all the Autumn fruit in still life. I bought them both for about $40 at an antique mall here. I think the frames were the deterrent for them not selling at a much higher price The frame had been painted gold, but I decided to distress them down, and then realized they had been white underneath. I like the finish much better now. White, but with some of the gold still showing.

Here's my latest velvet pumpkin baby that I bought yesterday; so yummy in a creamy antique white. It has the real pumpkin stem which I love.

Still using the old metal tray with fruit.
Love these dark rich colors for Autumn.

and my wine crates...

As you can see, things didn't change a lot with my sideboard tweaking. Just changed out the sunflower theme for a more Fall feeling with the fruit, wheat, berries, and pumpkins.

(July 2012)

I noticed while I was out yesterday
that the mum and pumpkin stand is opening,
I'll be there soon!!!

What's new on the sideboard...

I've been guilty...
yes, guilty ...
of ignoring my sideboard!

I hadn't touched a thing on it since March,
when I updated it just a "hare"/hair for Easter.
(sorry, couldn't resist the pun)

I like to bring out my floral Mandeville and King Seed Box
this time of year and do it up right.

My sideboard is in my main hall right off the kitchen...
next to the stairway to the lower level.
It's impossible to get a good shot of it
without hanging like a monkey from a chandelier.

tight space.
just ask my son-in-law who reminds me each time he's here
and unloading suitcases and French Bulldogs.
(just jabbing you a little, Keith)

too bad.
love my sideboard being here.
my husband knows NOT to complain.

(I better be sweet or there'll be no Coldwater Creek gift card this year for Mother's Day)

And since Mother's Day will be here next month
I added one of my sweet framed greetings from 1939.

and a vintage flower book from 1945 with some seed packets.

McSquirrel is residing in the metal conservatory/lantern.

so...let's see how long this new ivy lasts...

I love this teensy woven basket...

just perfect for a little birdie

(everything here except the lantern were flea market finds)

so much better!

Sideboard Inspiration

We're counting down the days now  and I have a few more things that I want to share. I made a quick stop here at the sideboard on the  Christmas House Tourbut I wanted to show a little more detail.

This lantern is one of two matching that I bought this year.
and it was the inspiration for my sideboard.

I wanted a serene "Jeanne D'Arc" feel to the entry and Living Room.

This little bottle brush wreath
and the bubble print portrait of Mary are separate,
they just happened to fit together beautifully.

(sorry for the glare of the overhead spots)

I also found these wonderful moss covered pinecones
and a battery operated candle to add to the lantern
with my Mary and Baby Jesus statue.

A few of my favorite vintage postcards and an ex voto in flower frogs.

I found this wonderful Madonna of the Goldfinch print
in this chippy frame a few years ago.

Here's a little information about the painting:

Madonna of the Goldfinch by Raphael or Raffaello

Renaissance Art by Raphael Sanzio or Raffaello

Madonna of the Goldfinch, Madonna del Cardellino (1505). Artist: Raphael Sanzio (1483-1520) or simply Raphael or Raffaello. Madonna of the Goldfinch is a vintage Renaissance fine art religious portrait painting. The Virgin Mary is holding a book, with identifies her as Sedes Sapientiae ("Seat of Wisdom"). The goldfinch is a symbol of Christ's future violent death. The young Saint John the Baptist offers the goldfinch to Christ in warning of his future.

This captured the feeling I wanted this year,
serene and spiritual.

Just a few more days...
hope you have a wonderful week!
