Summer Holiday Cupboard with Patriotic Flair

When June comes around I gather my vintage dishes and a few elements that are red/white/blue and restyle my old pie safe cupboard. A few pieces of red transferware mix it up with my French faience pottery dishes. Then when I start decorating for July 4th holiday I just add in some small memorial flags. Presto, instant Patriotic décor.

My old cupboard anchors the seating area with my wicker settee, which is frequently changed up with different quilts and pillows that coordinate with seasons and holidays. This month I'm using an old red block quilt with ticking pillows and two star pillow covers I found on Amazon.

Last week I put together a patriotic tablescape in the garden room using vintage red/white/blue transferware and my "new-to-me" Staffordshire swirl white plates. I used my vintage Blue Skanda water glasses that were on my wedding registry for a fun pop of bright blue. I couldn't remember the name, but my sweet friend Allyson from Southern Sunflowers did a little investigative work on Google and found them for me! Some of my pics show them, other pics are from before I added them in. The blue crystal glasses definitely give the display a boost of color.

I found this old placard several years ago and don't have any idea what or where it originally was used. I thought maybe a sign for "no sales on Sunday" at a grocery store.

A very old McCoy pottery mixing bowl with a red stripe was part of a set I'm sure. It has a big crack but still has a lot of personality and perfect for a patriotic display.

A J. Willfred pottery cachepot from Portugal with a Quimper motif is a fun summer addition with blue accents.

Churchill pottery teapot in a red chintz pattern.

a red/white/blue hanging heart from an old quilt decorates the door knob.

... add a flag for the 4th.

  1. Debra, it fun to see the details up close. I'm much like you and have to add a patriotic touch on tables and in cupboards, and patriotic pillows, star quilts, etc around our home. It's just says summer to me! Happy red, white, and blue summer!
