"Pinning" A Holiday Wedding

I still don't have all the little bugs worked out of transferring photos from Pinterest into my blog post, so please excuse the little glitches here and there. I've been collecting these images for a few weeks so that I could celebrate hubbs and my Anniversary which is today. Dare I say it...? 39 years...
I know that's older than many of you out there, and gee whiz, I hate to date myself... did I just say "gee whiz"... OK, that's dating myself. What can I say, we were kids.

Even before we were married I just loved the idea of a Christmas Wedding. Magical by candlelight and in a snow covered setting. These are just a few images that captured that feeling. Oh yes, and that must have hint of red.

The simplicity of "nature" added to this cake with the red roses and twigs would be my choice today.

And a sleigh ride from the church...just perfect!

A tree lined entrance all aglow...

How adorable are these two?
But maybe just a tad bit chilly.

Love her fur jacket...

OK, I probably would nix the skis.
But today I'm just dreaming...

would you like to know the reality of my day?

I spent last night in the ER with a sprained ankle.

Celebrating may be by candlelight,
but it will probably be take out.

Oh well, at least it's not broken...
I'm thankful for that.
But anyway you look at it,
I have a wonderful husband,
even if today's best friends are a pair of crutches and a vicodin.

Not complaining... just keepin' it real.

See ya tomorrow...I think.
xoxo

Holy Matrimony

Today is our Anniversary and I wanted to share a little of what I did yesterday.
The urge to re-do the hall sideboard got the better of me,
but I'm only showing one shelf of my makeover.

I found this Marriage Certificate from December 30, 1924
and decided it needed to be the focal point for my creative project.

I love old documents, and the graphics and fonts on this are just beautiful.

It makes me a little sad to think this wonderful keepsake found it's way to a flea market.

Still in love all these years later...

Today I'm linking up with Kathleen for White Wednesday

And Marty for Table Top Tuesday

Come join in for
 Vintage Inspiration Friday
I'm showing the rest of my re-do.
(It's a silver extravaganza!)

love you all,
Debra

Vintage Linens Chair-Back Slips

About six weeks ago, I decided it was time to "lighten up".
So I've had one project after another
to try to lighten and brighten my interior spaces.

A few weeks ago I did chair slip covers
for my bergere chairs in the Living Room.
I surprised myself at getting them accomplished,
because...
I really don't like to sew.
Sorry to say, I'm sort of a klutz when it comes to sewing.

But since I redid my Dining Room,
my heavy wood dining chairs seemed to be
bigger and darker and heavier than ever.
(Oh My!)

They taunted me to start another "project".
It's taken some thought,
because I wanted to recover the seat cushions.
(a relative easy job)

So I didn't want to do a seat slip,
even though it would have been
flirty with ruffles.

Two kitties with gray fur,
who love to lounge, talked me out of that idea.
I need to find some heavier flax or linen upholstery fabric
for the seats themselves.

What I have here is too lightweight,
but the right color and texture.

I had three "must haves" in choosing the material for these chair slips.
1. needs to be lightweight and somewhat transparent.
2. needs to be easy to work with.
3. Has to be inexpensive,
because I have ten chairs to eventually slip.

So... I just chose a plain white cotton.
Then to dress them up,
I added pieces of vintage dresser scarves with crocheted lace,
that I found recently at a barn sale.
(see my header photo)

Depending on the time of day and the light,
you can see the silhouette of my chair backs.

I made a template pattern by tracing the backs onto poster board.

Then to add a little fun,
I used a vintage button in back to tighten up the fit.

I have another project I'm working on,
so I'll show you soon.
This involves paint again,
just not on the walls.
(thank goodness!)
