Sunflower Botanical on the Mantel

When August rolls around I'm starting to think about Fall decor, and sunflowers always signal that it's about time to make that transition. The flowers are changing color and growth, a few dry leaves are starting to fall off the trees, and the light is showing that soon the days will start to get shorter.

It was early April when I last shared the mantel in the Hearth Room. The basics are still in place like the topiaries and mirror... even my little concrete sheep are still here. I put away my sheep canvas and I brought out a sunflower botanical print that I've used the last several years. I attached the botanical on an old art canvas awhile back, so for a little more oomph I placed an ornate antique frame over the canvas that it's been attached to.

Sunglasses Alert!

Please excuse the blinding light from the right...
I needed a light source to brighten things up in this dark area,
and it ended up being way too much.
This is a hard space to photograph due to no direct windows.

August and late summer also call for a bit more texture and darker colors so I brought out the Kilim pillows last week, too. I found some great sunflower themed pillow covers on Amazon a bit ago, so I added them to the mix. Kilim, indigo ticking, and sunflowers make a fun, colorful combination for late summer/early fall.

The topiaries aren't very tall, so they sit on top a stack of vintage books.
I also brought out a few little silver bud vases and used some faux summer florals
in "fallish" colors to make a small display coordinating with the botanical.

Pears are my favorite fruity bowl filler in late summer,
so I filled one of my old crockery bowls with a few.

Are you all having a heat wave in your area?
We're in the 90's and I'm ready so for Fall.

I did finally make it over to HL this week, and I found a few fun things
with a plan for a new Fall wreath for the front porch.
I'll be sharing the rest of the Hearth Room this weekend.
So please be sure and come back by.

  1. Debra I love those sweet lambs on the mantel. It all looks so pretty. I have the same problem with pics when you have that bright light streaming in. It is good to live in but not so great for taking pics. Happy Thursday. xoxo

  3. Very homey and welcoming, Debra. Yes, our heat wave has us walking by 7:30 am and then I don't even like going outside. Yesterday our heat index was 107° with 96° real temp. It's gross. Hoping for a cooldown this weekend for both of us!
