Christmas Farm Table Vignette

Hey Friends, I hope you're having a great Thanksgiving weekend and maybe getting a chance to do some Christmas decorating. I wanted to share a few snaps of what I've been up to this last week putting together the Garden Room farm table. It seems like my priority this year was just to make things "different" than last Christmas season.

Last Christmas was the first one here at the new place and since I haven't made many purchases this year, my first thought was "don't get stuck in a rut". It was so much fun last year having more space and a new place to decorate that I'm always tempted to go with what worked so well. I've had to make a conscious effort to mix it up.

Last year I had a pair of twig reindeer here on the table, but this year I'm using a different one that my sister bought me for Christmas last year. He's a really handsome guy and I think she found him at Pier 1. I was totally in love when I met him, so this year he's hanging out in the old crate along with a couple of faux evergreens and one of my vintage biscuit tins. He's some kind of "grass" but it looks a lot like actual hair/fur and he has a dusting of some faux snowflakes to give him a frosty look.

Trying something different,
I thought I'd do a mix of poinsettias in the ice cream bucket
instead of my usual evergreen and berry mix.
I had to dig thru tubs twice before I found these
at the bottom in another plastic trash bag.
I love the mix of white and "candy cane" poinsettias.

Here's how I used them in the past at our previous house

On another note...
I started looking for a dough bowl to use this Christmas.
I guess I'm a little late to the party, since in the past
I really didn't seem to have the right place to use one.

I found these on Etsy at a wonderful shop made here in the USA.
I've looked at so many different styles and designs (old and new) and realized
I'd probably find one more in my price range if I went with a new one.

These are gorgeous hand hewn bowls in a variety of stains and colors.
Run by and check them out to see all their gorgeous wares.

I also have one in a white wash which is perfectly French Farmhouse, and perfect for styling some Christmas decor. (can't wait!) I'll be showing that one soon, but wanted to go ahead with sharing these stained bowls while you still have a chance to snag one before the Christmas rush. I'm so excited about these bowls. I guess it's all in the timing since I've admired them for years. Now I've finally gotten around to it.

I'm just getting started on decorating
and this is what this table looked like early in the week.
Putting away Fall decor and bringing out some Christmas.
As you can see, I have some help.
I think there's an old saying...
"Where there's a mess, there's a cat in the middle of it."

She can sleep anywhere!

Here's the farm table last year...

Have a great rest of the weekend!

  4. Mixing it up is always the challenge, isn't it? I've collected so much Christmas decor over the years yet I still tend to select the same things each December. Since I won't be out shopping, I'm hoping to do a bit of mixing it up myself!

  5. Beautiful centerpiece! The deer and poinsettias are such a creative combination. I do have some little quails made much like your deer and they are from Pier 1.

I have an old dough bowl I found on eBay years ago. I'm a penny pincher so I spent a long time finding the right one for the right price. I didn't see the source for the whitewashed bowl. That's going to be on my minds for awhile. I can imagine filled with greenery, berries, and maybe some tiny fairy lights!

Enjoy your holiday decorating, Debra. Squeeze in some Hallmark movies, too!!

  6. Very lovely. My favorite photo, however, was the one of your cat lying in the middle of everything. So adorable.
