Easy Ivy Topiary for Valentine's Day

Hi Friends, hope you all are well and staying warm. And I'm hoping all our friends on the East Coast are safe and staying home somewhere away from the blizzardy snow and winds. Although we're having a sunny day here in the lower Midwest it's still cold and shivery. Anytime I can sit still for awhile you'll find me wrapped up in an electric blanket or throw. It's days like today that make me want to play with some plants and then put out a few vintage Valentine's to brighten up the house and shelves.

Candlestick Lamps on the Sofa Table

I love using tabletop and task lighting to give a room a comfortable intimate feeling. In this house it's not only for the ambiance, but mostly because it's dim; ok, sometimes kinda dark. This time of year, with gray and dismal skies, doesn't help to keep things brightened up. I'm not a fan of overhead lighting because it's mostly too harsh, so I realized I needed to have some extra table and floor lamps around here. *This isn't a sponsored post, just sharing my new lamps from a great online source.

Spring Market and Vintage Ivy Dishes

Spring Open Houses seem to be a little late this year, but since our weather has been on the cold side, I think we're all running a little behind schedule. We (my sis and I) only made it a couple of places, but we got our fix for all things Spring.

Topiary, Two Ways to Transition to Fall

August used to be my least favorite month of the year... well, OK, maybe it's still my least favorite month but that's only because I'm not a fan of the heat that August usually brings with it. We're having a week or two here in SW Missouri that feels like the middle of September, in the low 80's and some rain, and that is a wonderful reprieve. We've had summers that we had no rain whatsoever and the temps were over 100 for days. But in the last few years since blogging, I've realized that August can be one of my favorite months...

French Jardiniere

A few weeks ago, I took the big ivy that had been setting here outside, down to the potting bench to see if some fresh outdoor air might breath some life back into it. But it's looking like that might have not made it any happier. In any case it's outdoors now, and if it wants to be a difficult little houseplant then it will just have to be one outside. I found a new small ivy (they only had one little one) and it's now residing in a small iron jardiniere that's been in the storage room.

Vintage Owl Vignette and an Update

First of all, I'm having a little issue with Blogger. I'm not sure why, but it's decided each time I have to edit a post that it wants to "republish" and act like I just published it. This is getting old and I've tried scheduling the old time, but it's doing it any way. Anyone else having this annoying problem? I imagine a few of you are wondering about my sanity and blogging ethics. I hope it fixes itself soon, I feel like I'm walking around with toilet paper stuck to my shoe...

I wanted to share my new-to-me vintage concrete owl that I found at The Vintage Peddler last week. Isn't he a cutie; just the right amount of white chippy-ness!

Lambs and Ivy

Every once and awhile I run across something that I haven't shared with you before.
At the old house this wonderful old fruit crate hadn't made it past the garage
 "shop inventory".
Now at the new house, it again migrated to the garage.
I'm not sure why except that I've just never known what to do with it...
pretty lame excuse.

Coffee Table ReStyle

Hi Friends, a few weeks ago I needed to finally put away all my "Spring" rabbits, bunnies, and whatever... I'd been putting it off cause I hadn't felt so great, but when everyone started talking "Summer" it was obvious that my sweet little Bunny Man Basket needed to be tucked away for next year.

A Temporary No-Sew Table Runner

...or the "I'm lazy
and I don't want to sew this right now",
table runner.

Last week I was sharing with you all my love/hate relationship with my sewing machine. That I'm not too fond of sewing, but I find myself frequently needing a change-up in decor with pillows, table runners, curtains etc. And actually, my sewing machine is (a) over at the storage unit(s), (b) it's too cold to go hunting for it, (c) I'd have to bribe my hubby to go spend an hour or so messing with it. (Do any of these excuses sound reasonable?)

Sunporch Shenanigans

There's a little more fun going on in the sunporch this week that I wanted to share with you.  I always have an ivy that sits in my wicker floral container, ok...funeral basket. I hate saying funeral basket. Is that the only time anyone ever had one of these delivered? I guess they were the closest thing to "disposable" back then. so anyway... back to the funeral basket...

I like to keep mine "upbeat" with some seasonal decor thrown in for fun.

So this month it's been an "ode to black cats".
I love any color cats,
but in my lifetime I've had several of those sweeties
all named...

wait for it...

"Blackie"
I also had an adorable white kitty named "Whitey",
but today we're talkin' black kitties.
I think they get a bad rap.
My last "Blackie" was one of the sweetest girls around.

hmmm...this one could be a tuxedo.
but we'll just say it's black.

My girls were out here helping with the photos and trying to get a nibble
from the Angel Vine I just brought indoors.
They're naughty that way.

I found a wonderful little Elementary Reader a few years ago and used it to make some fun prints. That's a copy of the original 1920's page with another black cat and pumpkin image on top. I've always loved children's book illustrations from the 20's and 30's. When I was a kid, my grandmother had all my dad's childrens' books from the 30's. It broke my heart that someone cleared out the attic stash and threw them all away.

In just a few days, we'll be gearing up for Thanksgiving and the turkeys will take over. So for this week the owls and black cats, are still on the loose. Even one of my lambs wanted to join the festivities out here by sporting a new scarf...

don't tell him it's just a ribbon with a little glitter...

This is my second post today, the first one was "unscheduled" when I got these photos and texts from my daughter. Just wanted to share them and have a laugh, if you haven't read that post, CLICK HERE
