Every once in a while I see a cute and easy craft project that I feel confident that I can accomplish in a few hours time without making myself crazy. Do you know what I mean?... does that ever happen to you? I used to get involved in these complicated projects that invariably took much more time than I thought it would, take more money than I planned to spend, and end up in a mess. yuk. So now I tend to try things that I feel are not above my skill level and that oftentimes I have the materials on hand.
Yes, I know they look fairly "elementary", but I just love working with vintage book pages. I couldn't resist trying to come up with a fall candle DIY that was pretty straightforward and considered within my ever decreasing skill set. haha.
I had some inspiration from the current Fall Issue of Country Sampler Farmhouse magazine. I have the link at the end of the post. They were used with an early fall table scape which I thought was lovely and perfectly seasonal. The feature shows identical small Mason Jars with cut out pumpkins on the book pages. They were adorable and vintage-y and in no way "elementary".
I didn't have 3 similar Mason Jars to use, so I tried two other kinds of clear glass jars with candles to see what they would look like. I also think these would be even more "fallish" if used with amber colored bottles and jars. This is a fun little project that you can use at each place setting, for a gift, or along a shelf for more impact.
I debated on whether or not to share them here on the blog. You all know I'm not out to WOW everyone; mostly I just want to share what I'm up to around here, and this IS my favorite time of the year. Sometimes crafting turns out fabulous; other times, so so.
I found a basic pumpkin silhouette on Pinterest and just used it to freehand cut out the pumpkin shape. I used Mod Podge to glue the book pages in place, then a layer on top to set it. To finish it off I tied garden twine around the top. I love garden twine! To dress it up a little more, tuck in some wheat stems or berries, or silk fall leaves around the top for more fall color.
Okay, they DO look a little better when lit up in a dusky room!

DeleteS many great ideas and I love the paper around the jar candles. I have a couple that need some attention because the jars aren't my favorite colors but would look great with a peek-a-boo pumpkin window!

I was thinking that the jars may be recyclable if the paper is held on to them with tape? Then for each occasion you can change the cut out in the middle?
