This time of year; late August to early September, I'm about easing into the Fall season. Since it's still really hot outside I'm not quite ready for a lot of dark colors, leaves and bright orange pumpkins. I still want to keep it light and bright, but have a subtle change in color to the warmer hues of autumn.
Part of that subtle change shows up here in the entry area with a sunflower print on canvas and a refreshed floral arrangement with hydrangeas and sunflowers. Vintage white painted tole candlesticks and a pair of Staffordshire dogs keep it simple on the top of the console.
Sunflowers work as a base for floral arrangements from July till October. All I need to do is add and subtract other flowers like zinnias, hydrangeas and leaves throughout the seasons. The sunflower botanical is from a Cavallini calendar from several years ago. I just cut it out and taped it on an old speckled blank canvas.
These petite candlesticks used to be electrified, but I just removed the deceased old wiring for a cleaner look. The doggies look a little lonely by themselves...
Looking good for late August...
Okay... are you ready to kick it up a notch for early Fall?
Let's add a few touches to make it more "fall", than summer!
First I added a few sprigs of late summer sunflower/black eyed susans to the mirror and faux window. Then I added a small vintage print with a cottage and autumn color as another layer. I tried a different small vintage landscape print, but the frame was a bit darker and it just didn't work. Keeping the colors consistent with light and neutral is key.
And if we're making a commitment to fall, let's just go ahead and take the leap by adding a few small white faux pumpkins to the mix. I can handle small white pumpkins in August and early September, since they sort of blend in to the background.
I always try to pick up small vintage prints when I get the chance. They're perfect for layering against mirrors and larger prints for a vignette on a mantel or shelf.
The Staffordshire pups wanted a pumpkin, too.

DeleteOh everything is just beautiful! Fall is my favorite season, wish it was longer. While I love the colors of the changing leaves and all outside...I don't like the colors inside. I don't decorate for fall. But I love to see what everyone does do for fall decorations. Have a wonderful day.
ReplyDeleteHi Jan, sometimes the beauty of the outdoors with trees and cooler weather is enough to enjoy the seasons without having to decorate indoors. I know sometimes the dark oranges and browns can be a bummer for some people. just not their favorite colors. I love those colors, but I'm not in to overdoing the dark and heavy!
DeleteYour early fall decor is very lovely. I like the light look for late August/September. The darker colors will come soon enough, along with the darker days. I put a few small things up at the cottage but hate to buy a bunch of stuff when there is so much at home I could bring up. It's lovely, Debra.

DeleteBeautiful Debra.a perfect late summer early fall setting. The Strafford dogs are grogeous! Sorry I have been missing Peanut is the priority right now. I love whit pumpkins fall but they are perfect to add for early fall. I hope you are well.

ReplyDeleteYour look for late August looks clean and unfussy, but I do love the added first layer of neutral fall touches! I went to my storage unit yesterday to pull fall decor for my home, and Christmas stash for the antique booths. It's crazy period right now! Summer annuals are still going strong, but their color scheme do not fit my aesthetic for fall, so I need to get busy!
ReplyDeleteI am loving all of your fall sunflowers! and your Staffordshire pups are too cute. They bring back such great memories of my grandparents. My grandmother was an antique dealer and had so many of these. I have only one that was handed down to me, but I treasure it so much.
