French Farmhouse Table in the Dining Room

My last post I was telling you all about my after Christmas need for a more neutral palette. I always love a lot of color at the Holidays and I sort of overdid it this year here at the new place. I'm kinda over red/green for now. I'll be ready for some red again next month for Valentine's Day, but for now, my eyeballs need a break.

I'm generally a "symmetrical" person, which means that I need balance in my decor. I've tried several times to do something else, but I just end up moving things back around so I don't feel lopsided. I wanted to try to use these heavy iron urns here on the table, but it took me forever to come up with an idea of what to put inside them. I could have left them empty, but that didn't look right. So after a few days of trial and error I ended up with a small grapevine wreath with ivy added, then a moss orb on top. I would like to have had a larger moss ball, but I didn't want to try to track something bigger down. I made do with what I had.

I received this table runner years ago from a fellow blogger and I've always loved using it in the early winter months. It has the perfect neutral French-y look. I love using it layered on another piece of grainsack fabric for some extra width.

My large oval ironstone tureen on a platter felt right being in the center.
But it was a little bland, so I used the bendable fruit wreath
that I'd used for Christmas.

"Less is more" worked on the buffet too. I usually have this cluttered up
but today I'm just using a couple of large mercury glass candles
on either side of the PB urn,
a cloche, and compote with a nest.

Sorry for the glare on the cow print.

This Dining Room is larger than the last, but since all this furniture is visually heavy,
it fills up the space. I like this little wire plant stand, since it doesn't take up space,
but gives me another place to add a few pieces.

This little corner didn't change much but the pears replaced the little evergreen tree
that was here for Christmas.

The Metal Basket filled with Hydrangeas is waiting for Spring.

I'm finally getting better with this crazy cold/sore throat viral thing.
I haven't been sick-sick, just fatigued (more than usual)
and a nagging dry cough. Hope it's gone;
I hear a lot of people have had this.

Hope you guys are well!

see you Monday for...

  3. Debra, this is lovely. I've been decluttering some myself. Once the Christmas things are put away, it feels like a clean slate. I love January, the fresh start of a new year, and your dining room gives me those vibes. Beautiful space!

  4. That looks great. I think the smaller orb in the urns on the table is done very well, rather than anything bigger. Glad you're starting to feel better.

  5. Ah, when I was a faux floral designer, in the middle of December I started working on greenery pieces. Ooodles of ivy and grasses and ferns, because when people took down all their Christmas---the house would look empty. We would sell tons of trees and planters. I still love that look for the winter months. Love your moss balls and anything larger would be overwhelming...love your room!

  6. I love your white metal urns. I've been looking for some for our place. Your tureen is fabulous. So is the wire plant stand. So sweet. I'm glad you are on the mend. Have a good weekend.

  9. Beautiful, Debra! I like symmetry, too. I just redid the fireplace mantel after Christmas and decided to leave the two angels ~ one on one side, the other on the other end. ;) Love the size of your living room!

    Keep resting and getting better,
    Barb :)

  10. Oh my goodness, Debra, I don't even know where to start! Everything is absolutely stunning. I could be there comfortable in your beautiful home. Your urns and tureen look beautiful. I'm a bit too symmetrical in my design too, but I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing. Get better soon. Thanks for sharing at the TFT party!
    xoxo
