knowing the right time...

Just wanted to check in with everyone, since my last post was on Thursday morning. We picked up the keys to the new "little house" Friday afternoon. Funny that I'm calling it "the little house". When hubbs and I first were married we lived in a gardener's cottage on my parents property...we called it "the little house".  This would be a mansion in comparison to our tiny first house. Just one big room with a little bedroom that was heated with an old time gas heater. We were so happy: we didn't care where we lived.

We did a walk-thru Friday and realized that the carpets had not been cleaned so we spent most of the day Saturday over there doing that. I've said it before and I'll say it again, gotta have my Bissell Carpet Cleaner. It's saved the day on more than one occasion. We should have been here packing, but I have a pet peeve about dirty floors...'nough said.

I had to show these pics of one of my sweet birdies that I've been feeding during all the ice and snow of the last two weeks. I grabbed the camera and caught these. The setting is off, but I wanted to share them with you, anyway. The snow is almost melted and we're supposed to have a 60 degree afternoon...yay! Anyway, I kept seed out for the little guys (Juncos and Sparrows) and some ornery squirrels, it was grand central all day around the feeders. I'm going to miss these little guys, but then again, I'll be at this house a lot because we still have packing and sorting and getting ready for a sale to do. We'll be back and forth working at both houses. Our new house is a temporary one, we have a year's lease, but we hope to have some set plans by then.

Do you ever have an understanding of God's timing? It's hard to put into words, but I know you know what I mean. By our own thinking this wouldn't be the right timing to take a big step. Hubbs had inner ear surgery for Meniere's Disease, (he's much much better) in April, and I've had several rounds in the hospital with blood clots in my arteries next to my heart (I'm better too)...not a good time to plan several moves. But we just knew that the timing was now to get started with this transition...moving into a smaller lease house, getting rid of some of the "stuff" that's been cluttering up our lives. We had a flea market business for about 8 years, and during those years too much "stuff" came home with us. We knew that now was the time to lighten up and get freed up of some things...for some new things. Not just material; but emotional, and spiritual baggage that has held us in one place for awhile. We're starting to feel like this little bird...

This is the scripture verse that has been the center of my thoughts this last week.

Version: RSV
Isaiah 40:28-31

28. Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary, his understanding is unsearchable. 29. He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. 30. Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; 31. but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.

...have a good Sunday.

  1. Last Sunday I wrote about God's timing. Right now our family is in a place where not even a window is open. So we are praising God in the hallway while we wait. :)

  3. Lots going on and you are in a positive mood, which is great when moving. Blood clots been there and it takes awhile for recovery. You will be very very busy but don't over do it. I love the photo of your sparrow, my DH and I love our birds that visit - they are such a joy. Remember label your boxes on the front of the box.

    1. I would recommend label boxes on all four sides. That way you don't have to keep turning the boxes around looking for the label.

  5. Sending lots of love and good luck at your new "little house" dear Debra... love your sweet little Juncos... especially the last one... taking a "leap of faith"... I know exactly how you feel sweet lady... when Jack had his heart attack several years ago, we took stock of our own lives as well... the "emotional" baggage is better to let go even that the "material" baggage and we have done so... now, I just need to let go of some of those magazines!... (maybe?)... love you, xoxo Julie Marie

  7. Beautiful scripture Debra. Now, take it easy and don't push yourself my friend. Enjoy the warmer temps today. We are about to leave for a few days at our beach condo (more work than play).

    Blessings,

  9. God moves us forward, I'm not one who embraces change, but afterwards I am thankful and can see it was for the better.{picture me with feet firmly planted as I'm being pulled along, like my dog who wants to stay in the kitchen
where there's food...} It is better to cooperate! Well, I finally do.... (just not always at first) when I do know it's
God who is leading the way!

Great scripture verse. Thank you for sharing your heart.
Keep moving forward, one step at a time! The only way to eat an elephant is one bite at a time

  12. Such a beautiful post - the words, the photos (who cares about the settings!), and the verse summarizing. IMHO, I think you are both brave and smart in your decisions. Happy Sunday.

  13. I guess I've been a bad bird keeper since I have neglected my bird feeders this winter. And there you are amongst freezing temps and moving and you still think to take care of them. So glad to hear that you're making progress with your move. Now that you have the keys, you can start officially moving. Are you going to hire a moving company for your furniture etc.? Glad that your weather is warming up too. I think we're all thankful for some relief.

  14. That is one of my favorite verses. You will love smaller living. It isn't easy. It is a lot of work....but I tell you as we get older, it is so much easier to take care of. The kids don't want "our junk" anyways!

  15. Wonderful post Debra, and a favorite scripture. One that is a comfort to me is Psalm 31
    14 But I trust in you, Lord;
I say, “You are my God.”
    15 My times are in your hands;

and what better Hands to rest in and trust for our lives.

  16. I believe there is a time for every thing and every purpose under Heaven.................if we are still and truly listen for it we can learn much, it is our Guide to Life. I trust this is right for you both now, and with you a sincerely happy trasnsition. God bless you this new year and the years beyond.

Your bird pics are adorable, they're so dependent on us in freezes like the polar vortex split that came upon us like a sword! Glad you took care of God's little creatures. : - )

  17. Debra,
Your journey in life is taking a change in direction and while it seems different and maybe a little scary it will be the right path. Everything works for the right reasons and it is time for your journey to go in a new direction. I am wishing you safe and exciting new paths ahead. Change is good. We will all be right here with you.

  18. I applaud your efforts stepping out on faith. I can tell you that we downsized and moved when we were in our late 50s; and now that we are in our mid-70s, we realize that it was the best thing we did. That was 17 years ago, and I'm sure it wouldn't be easy to do at our age now. We have a home all on one level that we can easily maintain, and should be able to live here for several more years. Continue to trust in the Lord. Sally

  19. The Lord's timing is always right - even when we're not sure. As we age, I find we need to listen even harder. And that's hard for me to do sometimes. LOL

  21. Debra the pictures of the birds are so sweet! Five years ago we did just the opposite and moved from the little house that I raised my children in to this house over twice the size. I really questioned my husbands thoughts on this because he was just wanting the land it was on. But right now I am thanking God for the large house he has provided us because we have a daughter with four boys that is living with us right now, separated from her abusive husband. I do not know how we would have helped in a smaller house because this week seems as though this house is not large enough. Glad you and your husband are feeling well now. Blessings, Brenda

  22. I think we're all championing your inspired move, as we probably all have an area of our lives that needs a change or a fresh start. Getting the courage to change what needs changing is the biggest step of all. You are an inspiration to me to stop "thinking" and start "doing". YAY You!

  23. Debra, your bird photographs are wonderful! I'm a bird watcher and love everything about birds! What a great post on this blessed Sunday. I believe God has his plan for us! Enjoy every day and enjoy the changes he brings us. God is great! We are in the middle of a big change regading a move and I'm also in the middle of chemo treatments, trusting God is everything! It's all new and full of new life! I sense your move is working out for the highest good. Glad you and your husband are feeling well! Take care. Nancy

  24. I thank you for introducing me to another beautiful scripture verse. It is so appropriate for me right now too! Your going to love your new "little temporary home", and God surely will direct you wear he wants you to be soon enough! Your faith always inspired me! It helps me grow in mine!

  25. Sounds like you're walking in the new and right path with a cheerful heart, even though you're facing big changes. There is so much wisdom in making these kind of changes while you're both physically and mentally able to make good decisions together. Knowing the Lord is guiding you and with you each step of the way must give you a wonderful peace in the midst of all the hard work.
As others have commented, take time to rest!

  29. Debra,

I so enjoy reading these more personal posts of yours as they speak of 'stuff' that so many of us can relate to and understand. Your 'voice' is clear and honest and for me, that is beauty in itself, amid all the material good(s). I am looking forward to following the changes in your life that will open the doors to bright and beautiful views.

  33. Sometimes life decides for us! The way I ended up in Brittany where I now live is a weird one and some people might think the timing was completely off the year it happened. But I've learned to think of it as one of the best thing of my life! Good luck for all the work ahead of you with two houses!
