Little oak table gets a paint transformation...

Remember this cute little oak table
that I used at the lease house?

It was perfect for that room.
I didn't take up much space
and matched the armoire that I needed to use as a pantry.
I've had this table about 23 years.
it's been used as a kitchen table a few places,
but mostly for a sewing table.
And I'm excited to use it again.

I've actually missed that little table, since we moved. I've had it downstairs just taking up space, a place to use for a sewing table when I had the rest of the downstairs straightened up. But as much as I love having the bigger table in the kitchen, it takes up way too much space. Space that I want to use more as a sitting area than a kitchen dining spot. It's just the two of us 99.9% of the time, so we're having to squeeze by it constantly. But hey, that's my fault. I like my other pieces and so I decided to see about switching the two tables out.

Here's the kitchen at Christmas

Right now the little table is receiving a Chalk Paint transformation
so it will match these larger chairs that also match the china cabinet.

Yes, I could have left it stained,
but there's nothing else in the sitting area that it would match.

I hope to have it ready to go this weekend,
since I have some July 4th Patriotic Fun to get photoed.

Here it is downstairs,
waiting for the liquid poly finish to dry.
We couldn't locate the insert leaf,
so I'll have to paint that when it shows up.

Did you catch my invitation to the Patriotic Party?

Hope you'll plan on sharing all your fun Patriotic posts, past and present.
Link up time is Thursday Evening, 6:00 Central

  2. Debra,
I adore the switch in the hue of your smaller dining room table, dear friend!!!
As "Mr. Ed" and I complete our 2015 Renewal Project list, I too, am wishing for a change of hue for my dining room table and hutch/ buffet!!!Now that the "heat" has arrived on the Prairie. . .this may take a back seat until Autumn!!!Here on my side of the Prairie, most of the time (loved your 99.99%) it's just the two of us, too!!!
Thanks for sharing your sweet little oak table in it's transformation!!! Looking forward to the reveal within your lovely dining room!!!
    Fondly,
    Pat

  7. Hi Debra!
You're so brave to just paint up a lovely wooden table! I have an antique oak table (It pulls out to 12' with the leaves) that I need to do something with. It was refinished over twenty years ago and was a family heirloom gift from my parents when Handsome and I were married 31 years ago. Since, the finish is scratched and I always have it covered with a table quilt, sanding and painting might be the least expensive and most interesting way to go, but I just can't seem to bring myself to take a paintbrush to it...and from reading the previous comments, I guess I shouldn't feel alone. lol

Thanks for being an inspiration. I love the look of your dining area...a LOT!
    Hugs from Florida,
    xo

  9. That is a lovely piece and it is going to fit in your space very well. I sanded down and restained our kitchen farmhouse table a few years ago but forgot to do the end extension leaves. It is on my list this summer to freshen up the much used top and THIS time to not forget the extensions.

  11. Great transformation. A small table is always useful, especially if it is a gate-leg or drop leaf.
Looking forward to the Patriotic Party. See you on Thursday.

  12. Love your table, if you don't like how it looks but won't fit in with finish on it, what is wrong with painting it? I painted a small chest our son in law has stripped and he had fit. Daughter gave it to me when I gave them an antique washing stand from England we had gotten when we lived in San Diego. sil gel stained it so looks gorgeous to go with their hutch and awesome old dining set daughter got for $30 at our local thrift store when they first bought their house. Wish I'd kept it and hand made hoosier we had before I realized I could use it in this house. We don't have any place for dining table/chairs in this place and it is just two of us most of time. We have single wide 16x80 mfg. home. Not our dream house but when we moved here realized how much more expensive to buy a place than KY. Do miss table to eat on and stage.
I have that same milk bottle carrier gotten at Tractor Supply this Spring. Had been looking for it there since read about it on blogs couple years ago. Our kitchen only has 3 drawers so keep utensils in ball jars in rack, works great for us and looks nice in carrier.
Noticed your carrier on your table. I've used few other pieces I have from time to time when I get tired of something, like a change. Your carrier looks very sweet with what you have in it. I love changing things out for seasons, times I need change, whatever reason. Have to make best of what we have. Our house is good size for us two as we're home great deal. Have too much "stuff" so going to rent storage garage to keep most of it in til can make myself get rid of some things, Don't see that happening real soon tho so at least can empty out too much in house. Our other two bedrooms are very small at other end of house which are used for craft room and sewing room. Getting best of me so need to get busy taking things out of house. Have great week. Love your tables, all of them, your home is so lovely.
