Hi friends! After any holiday is over, I'm always ready to change up the decorating vibe around the house; with the color scheme tending to be the first thing I want to reset. I've been decorating with patriotic color since the start of June with red/white/blue items and vignettes, so now I'm ready for a more midsummer look.

We've been hot and dry here, but it's supposed to rain tomorrow, so I'm hoping there's dry time for a quick cookout in the afternoon. Do you/did you have big plans for this weekend? Stars and Stripes in the Garden Room

Hello from the Garden Room sitting area this hot summer weekend, as we welcome the month of July and a long July 4th weekend. This summer I gave myself some time to enjoy decorating for the 4th of July, gathering all my red, and blue items for display.

Summer Holiday Cupboard with Patriotic Flair

When June comes around I gather my vintage dishes and a few elements that are red/white/blue and restyle my old pie safe cupboard. A few pieces of red transferware mix it up with my French faience pottery dishes. Then when I start decorating for July 4th holiday I just add in some small memorial flags. Presto, instant Patriotic décor.

Quick Change Up Patriotic Entry

I started thinking about the Entry and looking back through my pics from the last several years, and was surprised that I hadn't seen a post with my Entry Hall console decorated for July 4th. I do each year, but for some reason I hadn't shown it here on the blog.

A few weeks ago I was on a mission to find white vintage swirl plates. My mom had had a set back in the 70's and I had an American knockoff version back in the 80's. Those were long gone by now, but I wanted a white plate that could be used for any season or holiday to set a family table.

Summer Patriotic Door Basket with Ticking Fabric Ribbon

Last week I worked on getting my front porch presentable and decked out with a Patriotic Summer vibe. During the summer months I keep a red/white/blue theme with pillows, flowers, and my door basket. I add in flags the last couple of weeks of June into July and then remove them after that first week of July. That color scheme works throughout Summer until late August when I start bringing in some sunflowers and early Fall colors.

I start thinking about Patriotic decorating in early June in anticipation of July 4th. For Memorial Day we usually put out a flag at the front of the house, but I start bringing out the red/white/blue in early June, which I keep out usually until the end of July.

Vintage Market Cottage Finds

This week we made a quick trip to my favorite vintage market in town. Vintage Peddler, and did a run through to see what was new this month. Things change so fast here that merchandise is constantly coming in and going out. I can always find a few things I love. I don't need anything big, but sure enjoy the inspiration and nabbing a few cute smaller items.

in the area for a late spring /early summer visit. 

You all know I definitely have a soft spot for wheelbarrows, carts, and wagons, etc. Anything with wheels and preferable could fit on top of a table or cabinet for display... So here's a wonderful vintage piece from my friends Sara and Abby at Sweet Magnolia's Farm here at The Vintage Peddler in Springfield. It's my go-to vintage market for a quick get-away that gives me a much needed boost of inspiration and fun seasonal ideas.

May has always been Bird Month for me. Around here we have nest building, new babies, and new faces at the feeders. I've collected a bit of bird themed vintage items during my time as a vintage market dealer, picking up figurines, tins, illustrations and ephemera during the years. May is Bird Month around here. I've really enjoyed watching and feeding the birds at this house since we moved here 4 years ago. This house has been unique in that we have a back porch that is so fun and perfect for hanging feeders and the ability to have stealth viewing...

I hope everyone is having lovely spring weather with some time for flower planting and potting. I got my containers planted a bit earlier this season, because of a big sale at our neighborhood store. Unfortunately the deer found them and made a meal of them. After a move closer to the backporch, thankfully they are rebounding a bit, so I think they have a chance to recover.

Cottage Review: Garden Wheelbarrow Tablescape

Hi Friends, with Mother's Day coming up next weekend, I know many of you will be hosting a Mother's Day brunch or luncheon. I was looking through some older magazines and came upon my inspiration for this post and thought how fun this would be to create the magazine inspiration below and surprise all the moms at your table. 

This original post was from about 10 years and two houses ago. It's just as much fun today and if you don't have a wheelbarrow, no problem. A basket, crate or doughbowl would be just as perfect for a garden display tablescape.

Vintage Baskets in the Entry

Last week in honor of May Day and Mother's Day, I put together two little baskets, one vintage, the other basket new but with similar elements. I was inspired by the old tradition of May Day where you would put together a small bouquet and hang it on the front porch door. Then you would hide and wait for the lady of the house to come to the door. Such a sweet gesture, but maybe not too practical in today's time and culture.
