Christmas Lookback in the Dining Room(s)

I've been busy decorating for Christmas, but the weather hasn't been cooperating for photos. It's been gloomy and rainy around here, which is typical for this time of year, so I thought for now I'd share a few pics from past posts of my Dining Room/s.

This is just a peek at what I've been up to in here.
My mantra this year for seasonal decor has been "don't get stuck in a rut!"
So I made a point to do something different from past Christmas centerpieces.

These are from last year here at the new house. I've always loved the classic Stewart Red Tartan Plaid for Christmas and have incorporated it in to all my rooms for many years. This wonderful holly printed burlap runner (made by my friend Judy from 20 North Ora) has made an appearance either with the plaid or natural burlap on the table almost every year.

Last year I used one of my large Pottery Barn white Lanterns along with Holly topiaries that I made years ago. They fit perfectly in two of my Guy Wolff pottery vases sporting their own red plaid wired ribbon accents. For some reason (probably still unpacking and finding Christmas decor) I ran short of time on posting last Christmas, so I don't have many images from the Dining Room. Here's the buffet that I rushed together. Looking back, I clearly lacked a vision for decorating this, haha! This year's version is much improved.

I've really loved having my family washstand here in the Dining Room.
It was fun to add Christmas here last year.

In December of 2018 we were non stop busy here with renovations at our current house, so I didn't get to decorate for Christmas then. What a bummer, because Fall decorating had been at a minimum too, so I was Holiday decorating starved!

Here are some pics from 2017 in the Dining Room at our previous place. The table is basically the same, but it's tried and true, so it was easy to put together. I don't really miss the interior of that previous house because where we are is much more suited to our needs, but I do miss the high ceilings which gave a much more open and spacious feel to the rooms.

I love the gold and white theme with all the mercury glass votives on the buffet.  It looked so pretty with candles lit in the evening. The buffet was much easier to seasonally decorate here at our previous house because of the mirror and wall behind the buffet. Now I have a window instead and it's not as easy to lean decor up against a window.

I loved being able to decorate "UP" here at the old house.

As you can see, my old standby table decor is here again.
I promise you, this year I have something different!

Christmas in the Dining Room 2015

My Goosy Gander who is one big heavy birdie.

Dining Room 2014

I didn't want you all to think I was being a total grinch this Christmas
because I wasn't adding ornaments to my tree this year.
This white tree with little birdies was one of my favorites.

This is from the house where I started the blog. I loved decorating that chandy. The long box as the centerpiece on the table was one of two window boxes that came with the house when we bought it. I used them two years outside then they totally rotted out. Hubby was able to salvage one of them for me to use indoors.

This is another windowbox that I found at the fleas.
I love that it is scalloped on one side.

The big difference in these pics is that I hadn't yet found the white chair slips.
I cannot believe the difference they make in lightening up the whole room.
One of the best decor investments I've made!

I decided to stop here at 10 years ago. My camera before wasn't the best and the photos are dark. I started blogging in the summer of 2009 and those first couple of years we were all working with what we had and most of us hadn't even thought about a DSLR camera. They were too expensive and we felt overwhelmed with the idea of the learning curve. So, sorry for some of these photos, with a couple of new cameras and a new computer last year, the photos have improved over the years!

OK, I'm hoping for some sunny days this weekend so I can take some pics.
What are you all up to this weekend?
Are you finished decorating?
I tweak things so much I'm never really "finished".
This year's current Christmas Dining Room
coming up next week!

  1. I love those holly trees you made and adore the high ceilings. It was really fun to see what you’ve done I’ve the years. I’m not a professional decorator by any means but I do love a beautiful dining room, especially at Christmas time.

  3. Beautiful pictures. I could look at old or new from your Christmas's.

I took pictures of my kitchen and wish I waited but it's been cloudy here too. They're not horrible.

Looking forward to seeing this year's Christmas
