Comtemplating a New Fall Centerpiece...

That's what is going on...

I'm thinking about a new centerpiece display for the Dining Room Table. I haven't really made a commitment yet, because I'm not ready to start bringing the turkeys out. But since October is flying by, I'm putting together some ideas. It's a work in progress...

This is the way it's been since early September,
and I was ready for a little change-up.

I knew that I wanted to use this new plaid scarf that I found a couple of weeks ago, that old rusty lantern, and the small black wagon. Other than that, it's been the game of "add, then subtract, then start over. I wanted some height behind the wagon, so I found one of my old iron urns and grabbed the tiger striped pumpkin from on top of the kitchen china cabinet.

Then somehow the Turkey Tureen appeared to perch on the wagon
midst all the Fall leaves and berries.

But like I said, I'm not bringing out all the turkeys yet,
they have to wait a week.
One of my rules...

So I tried different leaves, garlands, and berries.

I'm sorry, Mr. Turkey,
I'm not ready for you yet.

I tried some hedge apples and a little Fall Bouquet,
but I'm still working on the hedge apples...
so you just get to see a smidge for now.

We just got home last night from a wonderful week camping in central Arkansas. It's known as "The Natural State" and I have to tell you, the leaves were incredible despite the prolonged dry spell. Only problem was that we were in the track of the hurricane, so it rained and drizzled a good part of our stay. But it really didn't matter, our surroundings were so beautiful the gray skies only enhanced the leaf color. Mountains, pine forests, clear rivers with breathtaking bluffs and cliffs, plus the Fall leaves that were stunning.

I'll have some pics of the scenery later this week. I came home, inspired with all the beauty. Everyone (homes and businesses) has decorated in gorgeous Fall displays with pumpkins, gourds, corn stalks, hay bales and mums. I was one happy camper, despite the drizzles... after all it is October!

Hopefully, I'll get this table put together soon.

I'll be joining in for these parties:

  4. Debra, the various heights on that centerpiece really caught my eye (and so does the plaid scarf - love me some plaid!). I agree with you on the cloud cover enhancing the fall colors, and said as much to my husband on one of our walks a couple days ago. We're due for a couple days of rain now, so the leaves are dropping in scores.

  7. Your dining table centerpiece is coming along nicely! Will you be hosting Thanksgiving in your new home this year? We are in the midst of all that bad weather that you just came from. It has been windy, chilly and rainy here in GA. Looking forward to pretty weather at the end of this week though.

    1. I have to admit, my sis is the hostess for most family dinners and get togethers. She has a big house and lot's of space, plus, more kids and friends show up there. I still love to decorate though. We share the food prep, so she doesn't have as much to do. thank goodness for sweet sisters!

  9. Great Idea, I'm ready to upgrade my fall after the spookiness disappears....for lucious Thanksgiving harvest decor. Looks like you will be ready, too.

Grins and thanks for your lovely display! Sandi

  10. Your centerpiece is beautiful, as always. I'm glad you put Mr. Turkey away, he'll be coming out soon enough. After halloween I bring out the darker colors of fall and the week before turkey day I change to thanksgiving. I'm trying to talk Mr. C to heading out for thanksgiving with Minnie...he's fighting that idea!

  11. Absolutely beautiful centerpiece Debra! Love all of the beautiful fall colors. You are going to think I am crazy, but I will be putting the tree's up this weekend. I know, it's early. But I am a part of a few tours, and with crafts and things I need a head start ;-) The fall colors are beautiful here as well, but not for long. As the wind gently blows the leaves away.

  13. Debra, I think you are off to a great start. Love the new plaid scarf and everything has come together beautifully! I will start pulling out the turkeys this coming week and I have been contemplating what I want to do on my table and mantle. I found a great plaid tablecloth on our recent trip to New England. I too came home inspired by all of their gorgeous outside fall décor. Glad you were able to get away! Thanks for sharing with SYC.
    hugs,
    Jann
