What I Rescued this Weekend, Monday

It's not that I don't like garage sales, it's just that I don't have much luck with them. I can be gone all morning and come home with a few pitiful finds. So I've just never been that "into" them. Jan can go and then come home with a truckload of quilts, ironstone and fabulous stuff, Me? not so much. But, this last weekend I did good. My sister had one, and of course I got to shop early. Yeah. She had some great stuff.
This cute little chair is embossed, but is pretty lightweight. It won't stand up to the "teenage boy" test. AND if you need a potty, I have a real winner. It's Alfred Meakin stamped with England and is in excellent condition. I'm thinking a cute little ivy peaking out would just be so quaint.

This was my car when I got home. FULL.

My sister makes great flower arrangements and this was a summer bundle
she did a few years ago. It hangs on the door with or without a basket.

The little wooden tray with a 40's fruit decal and the green picnic basket are evidence of my love of "cottage" goods. I love all the whites and creams and shabby, but I just can't resist a pop of that cottage vibe.

I rescued the little baker's rack from my own garage.
It looked too "new", so I gave it a "rust" finish, now it works.

I love wire "anything", so I can just see this filled with gourds, pumpkins and bittersweet for fall. BTW, Fall is my favorite time of year, so don't be surprised when September 1 rolls around and all my fall goodies come out. Can't help it, the cooler weather always invigorates me, and I seem to come alive.

This little dresser was in my nephew's room until last week, when he traded his bunk beds in for "grown up" furniture.
It's a little rough on top, but I haven't decided yet what to do with it. White, black or just be lazy and let someone else do the work.
(drawer pull is in one of the drawers)

This little French fashion print is just so sweet. The frame has a little damage,
but a once over with some gold "Rub n' buff" and it works.

Here are some old linens that are not perfect, but oh-so- sweet.
Tea towels, pillowcases and table runners.

detail on the tea towels

There were several "cocktail" aprons from the 50's, that were so hilarious...all tulle, net, and organdy. No help with dirty hands or spills...
just for the chic hostess factor!

This little vintage Battenburg lace number is one I kept for myself,
or I should say for "Irma".

She's wearing it now, as she holds the vintage jewelry that I make.
This is some of my stash.

Be sure and check out more "What I rescued this Weekend, Monday" at Sassafras Stuff.
Thanks,Polly

Well, I'm off to the garage to work on pricing.
Where's my Big Gulp cup, and please turn on the fan!

Have a great Monday,
Debra
P.S. If this post turns out weird, it's because sometimes I think that Blogger has a mind of it's own and it will do whatever it darn well wants. No matter how many times you go back and try to fix it. Double spaces and deletes photos. So I'm warning you, it was one of those days. Sheesh.

Summer Seed Box Display

I watered the geraniums early this morning and a few new little black-eyed susans and shasta daisies that I had planted along the fence in the backyard. They were already wilting. It didn't take long for me to feel just like them. When it's this hot, I just either want to float around the pool on my raft or come inside where it's cool. The heat sucks all the "motivation" out of me. Guess it's my age. Anyway, Texas would be too hot for me, now.

So I thought I'd share a little Seed Box fun.

Try to stay cool!
Anyone for a lemondade?

White Wednesday, the Entry

This is my second White Wednesday and I thought I'd share some white things from my entry area. It's actually two areas because it is separated by a main hall. So it's not a lot of wall space. The stair railing is in one area and a large opening to my dining room is in the other.

I heard many years ago that every entry should have a mirror, and that this area should be welcoming and reflect the rest of your home. Because of the divided space, I have ended up with two pieces of furniture that each anchor a mirror, one is a small gold gilt French table, the other a small black Eastlake dresser or buffet. I have a little love affair with Eastlake furniture. It is typically thought of as Victorian, but it is the "Gothic" sort, that is often dark, linear, and notched. I call it "bullseye". It is getting harder for me to find, but I have a few pieces. I've passed over a few that I really regret not buying. I need to learn that even if there is seemingly no where for it, I need to get it anyway, otherwise I will regret it terribly.

I used to change out the flower arrangement seasonally, but I had this iron urn so I just decided to keep it in place and then change out the flowers. I know, I know, wouldn't it be nice to have the $200 a month for fresh flowers? How many times have I heard Oprah and Nate say that if you can't have fresh flowers then you should just forget it? Sorry...There are so many gorgeous silk and faux flowers and stems. I don't think you can equate them to the old grungy, plastic kind.
Besides, I have cats. When I am fortunate enough to have a beautiful cut bouquet, I find them constantly nosing it, chewing it, carrying it off, and then they leave me little barfy presents of masticated lovelies...so, faux it is.

A set of four small fruit prints face each other on the small walls.

A white basket of flowers doorstop on an old tall plant stand.

I traded for this gorgeous French market cart.
I had been looking for one since I saw one on a blog last spring.
Even though it isn't white, it is filled with seasonal
white flowers and branches.

I have two leaded glass windows; one on either side of my front door.

No color, just textured glass.
This photo is natural light.

and with a flash.

Technically, I guess this little concrete dove is supposed to be blue-grey,
but he has lost most of his paint, so I thought I'd include him in the white items.

This little white pitcher is so sweet, but I cannot decipher the mark on the bottom.
It is a laurel wreath with another mark.

Love, love, love white wicker flower baskets.
They are scattered about the house and porches.

One of my little lambs that I collect. There is a post coming on them.
I guess you can see that I have several.
To me they represent purity, trust, and innocence.

I found an old primitive church pew last fall. It was in really bad shape,
so it got a coat of black paint. I made two of these little toile pillows.
I am so not a seemstress, but I can do a few decor things.

Here is the 75 pound antique urn that my wonderful husband
had to lug back to the car one day at a swap meet. He was thrilled.
(so was I)
I'll give you the full view another day,
since I was trying to stick with the "white" theme today.

"Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise.
Give thanks to Him and praise His Name.
For the Lord is good, and His love endures forever..."
"Psalm 100:4-5"
