Vintage Inspiration Friday #2

I'm inspired by bringing the themes of nature indoors....

One of my favorite decorating books gave me inspiration for today's post.

Celebrating Home,
Decorating for the Holidays and Seasons

is a book I will be sharing a lot with you, especially for the Fall season.

From the creative experts at Midwest of Cannon Falls and Country Living,
this book takes you through each season in their gorgeous River House in Minnesota.

Today I found the sweetest harvest vignette to share.
Birds and nature are always a favorite theme of mine to incorporate into my seasonal decor.

Setting on my Dining Room table, I'm really enjoying the bittersweet and little bird.

And speaking of bittersweet, I bought several bundles of vine,
I worked for several hours on clipping it...
now I know why this stuff is soooo expensive!

Just a reminder...
if you link up, please be sure you have a link back
to Common Ground in your post,
so that others can come by for the fun!

Thanks for joining in.

I've mentioned before how I want everyone to feel comfortable about joining multiple parties.
I have a few favorite of my own, that I don't want to miss,
so if dear Beth, Miss Gypsy Fish won't mind,
I'll be linking up with her wonderful Silver Sunday Party
Thank You, Beth, I'm speechless!
(doesn't happen very often!)

Debra

Fall Nesting

Today I thought I would share one of the ways that I get ready for Fall. One of the very first things that I do to get that inspiration for Fall is to change out my flower arrangements for the upcoming season. There are so many little hints in nature here in the Midwest that prepare us for the arrival of  Autumn. The air feels and smells different with the cooler temperatures, the light seems to change and take on a "slant" and a golden hue, and the tops of the trees now have a change in color.

I use this old wicker flower basket in my entry hall year round. This time of year I've added some fall leaves and berry stems to the dried hydrangeas that were there in August. I like to make a subtle transition in the seasons. Adding a little each day; changing one thing, then another.

In my Dining Room, I'm really enjoying seeing how "Fall" brightens up my French iron basket. I painted and wallpapered my Dining Room earlier in the summer. The cream and damask paper really reflect the warm colors of the fall leaves and flowers.

Bringing out the Brown Transferware is another sign that Fall is on it's way.

On the new "white" console table further into the entry that just had it's metamorphosis,
the iron urn now holds golden Aspen leaves.

And the front door's wreath is now a colorful blend of black eyed susans and sunflowers.

Bringing nature indoors with my decor in arrangements is just the start of the Fall Nesting Season for me. Sometimes when the weather is still warm (OK...hot!) we can get in the mood by just seeing what others are up to. We still have warm weather here, but usually in about 2 weeks we can start to think about sweaters and jeans again, yay!!

Please visit the Fall Nesting Party at the Inspired Room
for much more inspiration for Fall!

And I'm joining in at A Stroll Through Life with Marty for

Get your Fall On!!
So much more to come.

Have a great week everyone,

Vintage Inspiration Friday #1: Sunflowers

I'm inspired by...Sunflowers

Some think of Sunflowers as a Summer flower, but here in the Midwest, their blooms and maturity are all signs that Fall is almost here. Cornfields edged in the brown eyed beauties, bursting forth seeds to feed the hungry birds, can be found in abundance and variety.

(Midwest Living Magazine)

I love to have my home and decor reflect the seasons and nature,
so for me, this time of year is expressed perfectly
in a sunflower's brilliant colors of golds and browns.

(Midwest Living Magazine)

The perfect way to transition from Summer into Fall

(Country Home Magazine)

My white ironstone pitcher's bouquet changes with each season.

I'm even enjoying my "Sunflower" candle from White Barn Candle Co.

The hallway sideboard's old seedbox has transitioned
from Spring, to Summer and now to Fall.

And as much as I'd love to have the luxury of fresh flowers,
my kitties are a deterrent.

I've learned there's a huge difference between silk faux flowers
and plastic fake ones...
you know what I mean?

My old mason jars that held hydrangeas this summer,
now find that the sunflowers have taken over.

Hope you're having a great first week of September!
Kids getting back to school,
decorating for fall and then Halloween,
cozying up our nests...

So how about some Fall inspired goodies for a giveaway!

Sunflower Soap...

Orange Bar Striped kitchen towels
and stack of fall inspired notes.

So, thanks for coming by,
and I hope you'll join in on this new weekly party,
all about finding and sharing our inspiration.

Please link back to Common Ground in your post,
and Let's have some Inspired Fun!

Have a great Labor Day Weekend!
