Hi Friends, how are you coming along with this seasonal transition time? Have you put away all your Fall decor and going cold turkey (pun intended) headlong into Christmas?
I used to be able to do that; ... pack up all the fall and autumn décor and pack it away in a weekend. But I can't do that any longer, nor do I want to miss the subtle transition to Christmas and the cooler weather. Southwest Missouri has small rolling hills filled with amazing tree and leaf color this last bit of Fall. I don't want to miss that real time in my surroundings.
So my best plan is to meld late fall and early Christmas together. Bringing out some Christmas trees, white lights and then add Thanksgiving décor to mix with it. I still have out some pumpkins, but they are mostly neutral ones that can quickly change to Christmas décor in a quick swoop. I love the look of evergreens with fall leaves and pumpkins, which satisfy my love for Thanksgiving, but also give me my early Christmas vibes and head start.
My little white table/desk here in the garden room has a Thanksgiving vignette next to the goat cart. This year I put the Christmas tree that's usually in the hearth room in here. It makes the traffic path less cluttered and gives more pizzaz to this spot that we can see from the kitchen and hearth room.
My big turkey fella is nesting here in the goat cart with pumpkins, fall leaves, and some dried hydrangea florals. The tree is in a small wooden farm basket and secured with heavy brown wrapping/craft paper and burlap.
Here's my "Bronzed Turkey" that I shared last week. He received a mini makeover with Rub and Buff to cure his blah and boring look. He's ceramic and I made him back in the late 80's, but he's lacked imagination since the get-go.
My décor is changing weekly as we get closer to Thanksgiving and the cooler weather sets in. Here's a peek at the hearth room wicker settee for mid-November with some wooly blankets which I've put out this last week. I took this pic last week, and it's already changed again... looking more and more like Christmas!

Debra, I cannot tell you just how much I love this. The light of the tree nestled between the table and goat cart looks really cozy among the turkeys and pumpkins. We are still enjoying a beautiful fall, and I really feel like Thanksgiving gets short-changed with all the Christmas hoopla. What you've done is really tasteful. I have put away most of my indoor fall things and changing some wall art (4 hrs of UNdecorating and trying to find places for things brought out of storage that I want to keep here at the house). I am caught in the crossfire of wanting to keep fall alive while moving toward Christmas.
ReplyDeleteI hear you exactly. It's the "undecorating" that's the most work. I love decorating for Christmas, but it's the putting fall away that's the rough part, especially when you're like me and LOVE all fall decor.

ReplyDeleteIt's so cozy, Debra. I still have fall/Thanksgiving up, but it will be a very quick strike on November 25! I might bring up the woodland tree a bit early but it will depend on how things shake down schedule-wise! I love your fall home!
