Christmas Door Decor and Porch Peek

Hi Friends, do you have your Christmas decorating finished up? I hope you've had some good weather to get you in the Holiday mood. I had to get busy this weekend and put together a few things for the front porch and a change up for my door basket so I could join in with Amber's Christmas Door Decor Blog Hop. If you're coming from Amber at Follow the Yellow Brick Home, I'm so glad you're here!

When we moved to our last house I started using a wicker basket for my seasonal door decor instead of a wreath because we had a glass insert in the front door. A full basket covered more of the window than a wreath, so I just left it there year round. I've used both wreaths and the basket here at this house. Since Hydrangeas are my go-to faux flower I like using them for each season then adding seasonal greenery, berries and florals; makes it easy and simple.

So, I kept my Hydrangeas from my Fall basket then replaced the leaves and Bittersweet with faux evergreens and Holly with red berries. But having a "Bittersweet" colored door limits me a bit on what I can put next to it. My usual Red Tartan default Christmas ribbon didn't look so great next to the burnt orange.

This neutral burlap-y wired ribbon looked much better against the orange,
and from a distance the porch looked more cohesive and the orange doesn't  jump out at you.

I think next year I'll look for more neutral pillows and throw,
but for now it's Tartan Plaid.

We've done some renovations here on the front porch since we bought this place last Fall. We've been trying to morph it from a 60's Mid Century Ranch to a quaint English Cottage look. I had been looking forward to decorating the porch for Fall and Christmas, but since October we've been working on the front landscaping with new shrubbery and plantings replacing the 50 year old greenery. After having sporadic work with two different crews we're still in a transitional mess, but hope to see our new landscape guy here at work soon.

Since we're in the middle of the process, I may not be able to do much more with the porch than what I have here. I'm trying to keep things contained so it's not in the way of the workmen. So because of that, I'm including a "Porch Peek".

I have two lighted topiaries and an old vintage sled that need to be added,
but I don't know how much they will be in the way.
So this may be all I can do for the Holidays this year.

A peek through the glass storm door.

Here are a few pics from year's past Christmas Door Baskets at our previous home.

Seeing these pics makes me so thankful for a larger front porch,
the previous one was really narrow and not much room for my vintage porch decor.

I hope you'll continue on with the Hop and visit Laura at Decor to Adore.
Then check out the rest of the group with the Link list below.
Thanks so much for coming by,
and hope you'll visit again soon!

  8. I adore all of your vintage porch decor and would be super happy sitting out there all day! Our front door used to be terracotta colored and I painted it last summer to a pale minty aqua color. It doesn't go with much either - LOL. I should have gone back to black but oh well. I'm stuck with it for a few more years. Merry Christmas Debra.

  17. Debra - your porch is lovely. You always put together the best vignettes. I have not done my porch yet but it will happen in the next day or two. Thanks so much for stopping by my blog and commenting. I do hope to have decorations up inside soon. I'm hustling to make a living these days. Very tired of being behind on everything. But seems to be the story of my life.
