Vintage Tea Party Vignette

I have sweet memories of the times when my two girlies were young, that our church would host a Spring Tea Party or luncheon in honor of Mother's Day. Moms and daughters would dress up in their best Springtime dresses to come and celebrate with teas, cookies, cakes and tiny tea sandwiches. Surrounded with flowers, ferns and fun pastel accessories, antique tea sets and china were part of the festive decor.

Today I'm joining a talented group of bloggers who still love a beautiful tea party and want to share our ideas and inspiration with all of you. So welcome to the Spring Tea Party, hosted by Amber from Follow the Yellow Brick Home. If you're coming from Christy's at Our Southern Home, then Hello, I'm so glad you're here.

I'm still opening and sorting boxes of vintage dishes and decor from our recent move, but I have a few things to bring together a fun and nostalgic Tea Party Vignette. I collect old floral teapots, and this is one of my favorites in a sweet pastel floral trim with pink borders from Staffordshire, England.

I have bits and pieces of floral china, with several pairings of antique cups and saucers. Today I'm using an old "Mother" large teacup and saucer from Homer Laughlin, creamy white with a gold gilt font. I have the "Father" cup also, but no saucer to match.

I don't have a lot of floral china, but this lovely little covered tureen
and platter from Homer Laughlin, "The Angelus" pattern, is one of my favorites.

I have a small collection of hatboxes and a few hats that I keep in my office, and this yellow just seemed the right one for this occasion. I think the summer hat with roses was probably from the 40's. It's so very feminine, with small pieces of netting still attached to the band. And every lady had her white gloves to finish off the look.

This little tea vignette includes an antique set of green depression glass sugar and creamer,
and an old small cake stand that elevates the florals in an English Breakfast tea canister.

The delicate vintage luncheon cloth with cross stitch florals
gives it all just the right setting, here in the Garden Room.

As you can see, I have most of my transferware placed in the Kitchen China Cupboard. It's looking a little "full", so I may have to edit a bit soon, and send it to the China Closet. Thank goodness for the space, things are filling up fast. I'll be sharing more of the Kitchen China Cupboard this week.
Thanks so much for coming to visit, I hope you'll continue the Tea Party with Laura from Decor to Adore, who knows how to throw the most beautiful parties!

  4. Oh I remember too those days at church with the lovely tea parties. So much fun. Seems none of the younger women today like to do these things. But I love me a good tea party. Everything is beautiful. Hugs and blessings, Cindy

  6. The tea container as a vase for your floral centerpiece was a brilliant idea and what a lovely addition to your table is the vintage hat box and gloves! You have certainly unboxed enough to set a pretty and welcoming party table!

  8. Your vintage tea party has the perfect setting in your new sunroom. I love your beautiful tea pot and your neat "mother" tea cup and saucer. Seeing that spurred a memory and I know some relative of mine had one displayed in a china cabinet long ago. The hat, gloves, and hat box are perfect props for a tea party. I can imagine a lady wearing these things long ago and looking so elegant at church or maybe even a tea party. Everything looks beautiful!

  20. Debra,
What a wonderful way to show off your new sunroom with a tea party. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your china cupboard in here. Your party brought back memories of my grandmothers and aunts who always wore hats and gloves to church and special parties.

  21. Oh, Debra, you brought back great memories of when I was on the church tea party coordinating team! Each table hostess would bring her own china and then I made sure every table had a cake plate and a silver tea pot (and a lot were from my house;). Fun to see how you're getting settled in your new home, and some of your pretty collections. That tureen is awesome!
