I finally gave in...

Up until just a couple of years ago, a lot of my furniture was painted black.
My inspiration piece for this was this little Eastlake dresser,
that I've had in my Entry since we moved here.

A year ago I started the transformation to "white".
A need to lighten and brighten my surroundings really put me in high gear.

I've put off painting this little dresser until a few weeks ago,
because, even though I still love the black,
it didn't match anything else in the entry area.

So I used my favorite Behr primer plus paint,
then added some mocha glaze,
a couple of coats of liquid poly,
and a little light distressing.

I went with painted hardware, to tone down the brassy gold.
(certainly not the originals)

...much happier!

And I really don't know how it came out with these curvy little Queen Anne-ish legs.

Detailed bullseye Eastlake motif.

(the before)

As you can see it's finish was a little dated with sponged gold highlights.
(sorry, old camera from early blogging days)

It's such a pretty little piece, that is a real storage answer;
holding gloves and scarves for winter.

so...one more down...a few to go.

I'm linking with these great parties:

Hope you can join in for Vintage Inspiration Friday.
I'll let you know what I was up to last weekend.

love ya,
Debra

  9. Looks great Debra! I have a freebie dresser that I am planning on painting black to put in my sewing area to hold fabric. Do you have a suggestion for the kind of black paint I should use. I have never ever painted anything black. But I am going to take the plunge.

  14. Debra, it is wonderful and what a great job of aging it. I love the way the pulls look old. The glazing sure makes a difference.
And I really like your whole entry display. I see we both like the old scripture prints, aren't they beautiful?

  15. I LOVE the transformation. It seems to fit the personality of the piece much better than the black. I have a large black mirrored dresser that I would love to tackle, but it's just so big and beautiful, I'm afraid to screw it up. Ah, one of these days, I might get brave enough.

  26. Debra, I love what you did with it, it is more "lightened up" much more cheery. Although, I will say, the "before" pic is not bad at all. Perhaps, it's due to your many vignette talents. xxx tami
