This is what I'm doing this weekend...

After 4 days of trying to find just the right shade of "taupe"
this is how I feel.

Too pink...
too green...
too brown...
too gold...
looks like cement...
does that look purple to you?...

I've looked at so many paint chips and tried almost as many.
my walls look like a patchwork quilt.

I've finally found the right one, and my daughter Aly will be here with me
this weekend painting the master bedroom and master bath
...and maybe my closet if we have the time and haven't fallen over.

keep a good thought for us,
this is just the beginning...

I can't believe I'm doing this...

OK, so I DO have a bedroom, and it does now have a sunburst mirror above the bed, and I can't believe I'm actually showing pictures, 'cause I can't get good ones, and now I will probably have blog remorse once I hit the "publish" button...

There are some things I want to change out, like the old school curtains, which were fine 9 years ago. And of course there's that itch that would have me repaint it all in a taupe-y gray. But the master bath and my closet are also in this camel color so that's a big job. Right now I don't want any more big jobs, at least for awhile. So I guess I'll wait until I can't stand it anymore, then I'll do it.

oh gosh, these photos are not very good...

anyway...this room is a booger bear to photo;
it's dark with all the gold, dark rug (which used to be in the Living Room),
and large pieces of dark stained furniture.
d.a.r.k.

(our TV is in here)

but, I bit the bullet and I'm outing myself,
'cause I promised a pic of the new sunburst mirror,
which DOES help bring it just a tad bit more up to date.

maybe...

I bought a new duvet cover and shams from Pottery Barn last fall,
and I love them...
I could still use them with gray walls...
hmmmm...

I had fun putting together little gallery areas on either side of my dresser.

This carved trunk came from the Philippines,
when my dad was in the Korean War.
He shipped it home to my mom
full of Japanese kimonos and handmade items.

frenchy things on my dresser.

can you tell I like old "frenchy" things?

anyway...be kind.
I have some decisions to make on drapes and painting.
I hope I can decide what needs to be done,
so another almost three years won't go by
before I show it again.

Pottery Barn bedding peek...

Just wanted to share with you
my new pillow shams and duvet cover
from Pottery Barn that arrived this week.
The bedroom doesn't get a lot of light so it's hard to take photos here,
plus the rest of the room isn't blog-worthy at the moment;
hence the tight "bed only" shots.

The quilt is one my mother-in-law made for us about 20 years ago.
She has stopped quilting, but I have many of her lovely,
meticulously quilted pieces that I treasure.

I'm totally in love with this pattern, Camilla,
and think it really adds a luxe touch to the room.

As you can see, Miss Wrigley thinks I bought it for her.
She thinks the bed is hers and sleeps between us every night,
just like a spoiled kid.

I was happily surprised with the wonderful quality of his set.
The linen is heavy and true to color.

I'll get some more photos of the rest of the space soon,
I'm making some grain sack pillows today.
That's more fun than cleaning the bedroom!

love ya,

In the mail...

The redecorating ninja is at it again,
this time not as much work to do,
just some long overdue new bedding.

I've been scouring the catalogs and online for what I think
could work with some of my existing pieces;
An heirloom white on white medallion quilt,
antique white shams, and a bed skirt that fits inside our sleigh bed.

I'm excited to get these pieces from Pottery Barn.
(new pillow shams and a duvet cover)

I've chosen the taupe "natural" in the foreground, below.

I don't know how accurate this color swatch is but it's close to our wall color.
Sort of a "camel, butterscotchy, caramel" color, by Benjamin Moore
Doesn't look this bright on the wall.

I haven't shown our master bedroom,
because we tend to be a little "techy" in there with my husband's
laptop and stock manuals.

But I'll do a one-day "put-away" when I get things together.
Hope it looks as good as I think it will.

Hope you're having a great weekend.
I'm still tweaking in the Living Room,
more of what I've done, this next week.

xoxo
