Early Summer Entry with Bovine Beauties

Despite the gray, rainy weather (and poor light) I wanted to share my late Spring/early Summer entry. Late May is the perfect time to decorate using lovely lush pastel Hydrangeas with a hint of summer that's on the way.

Most of the year, I keep an urn full of Paperwhites here in the entry. But with summer and warm weather almost here, I was ready for a change in my floral arrangement. Hydrangeas come into bud here in early May and by June we start to see some lovely pale green and barely white blooms. My Hydrangeas seem to have constantly changing amazing hues from pale green to white to mauve to burgundy, and they are running a bit late this year.

I try to keep my floral arrangements coinciding with what I see out the window. And I love the combination of color with the Hydrangeas and the addition of white Viburnum with a few sticks mingled in. Since the faux flowers have a variety of pinks and mauves, they bring out the subtle pinks and reds in the vintage British Victorian pastoral print, "In the Pasture".

Another small landscape print is a companion to the larger print.

My Staffordshire cows feel right at home alongside the old British print.
They usually live in the china cupboard but are out for a graze right now.

Layering a vignette, especially when it has the benefit of a wall or mirror behind it, creates interest and dimension with prints and smaller accessories. This entry console changes seasonally and sometimes monthly, especially when a holiday is near. With June coming up, a patriotic theme will be next.

I don't want to call it being in "a rut" with decor, but sometimes when something works I don't think about changing things up. Since I was using whites and pastels in this vignette, I thought I might look for something that echoed the whites for the bottom shelf. So I brought out my white dough bowl and placed my white iron floral basket doorstop inside. My photos are always a work in progress with elements changing up.

This week has been rainy and chilly, but I needed some photos so I'm making do with extra lighting and the front door open. It's sketchy, but will have to do because today and Friday are supposed to be rainy, too.

Here we go... finished.

Here's a post from Fall 2019 with these same prints.

  3. What a wonderful cow collection, Debra. You're right about how when something works, changing it up is sometimes difficult because what might be better?
