Sunflowers in the Late Summer Hearth Room

August is all about Sunflowers around here...
Late Summer into Fall is their time to show their happy faces,
mingle with some hydrangeas, and wait for some fall leaves to show up.

Late summer has also been the time of year that I'm ready to make some textural changes in decorating.  When the evenings get a little cooler I like to add in some deeper, warm colors, heavier fabrics, and lots of Sunflower themed florals and pillows.

Having a neutral base in decorating makes it so easy to change things up for the seasons. Furniture, rugs, and walls all work together for a natural look that's fun and quick to change out. I'd been wanting a natural cotton slipcovered sofa for years so when we moved here 2 years ago I bought this great sofa and oversized chair with an ottoman.

I love to mix color, pattern, and texture that matches seasonal and holiday color, and I have to admit, this sofa and chair set get a monthly change up. The Kilim pillow (covers) were something I'd wanted for several years and I found that they go perfectly with the bright warm colors of late summer and my sunflower theme.

Sunflowers and late season Hydrangeas hang out together
in my antique rolling market basket next to the TV armoire.

The mantel in the hearth room has a botanical sunflower print
from a Cavallini calendar several years ago.

My old wicker "funeral basket" on the sideboard has a variety of sunflower's this month.
Early summer it was holding an arrangement of this "lemony and mini-daisy mix".

Faux pears are gathered in one of my old crockery bowls,
sitting on my vintage white chippy bench.

Last month I went searching for sunflower pillow covers
and found these affordable cuties on Amazon.
Just do a search for sunflower pillow covers.

I made it to my "annual" visit to Hobby Lobby this last week. Wow, that's sad but true. I haven't been out much or driving for a while so I waited for my sweet husband to take me. I made the most of my time though and found a few fun things for fall decorating.

Are you all getting ready for Fall?

  2. I love your subtle mix in seasonal changes, Debra. The kilim pillow covers have always been attractive to me, and I may still need to get some for own. I love the pears in the bowl! Yay to getting out to HL! I bet you felt overwhelmed, there's just so.much.stuff.

  5. Such a pretty sun{flower} room, Debra!!! I love all the white (totally love the fireplace white!) and the matelassé... When I was in our last home, I would look for matelassé quilts to repurpose into sofa/chair covers. Still love the one cover which has scalloped edges and roses quilted into it!!! (One reason I keep that particular chair.)

Glad you found pretty sunflower slips online and had a nice trip to Hobby Lobby. I haven't been shopping much, either. I DO NOT want Covid again... Can't help being around it at school, but I can limit my exposure elsewhere, and I know you are doing the same thing. :)

Stay well and I'm happy to have featured your lovely post at this week's SYS for you (#315). <3
    Hugs,
    Barb :)

  6. p.s. Debra, in your links above, I tried to go to see your post on the chair and sofa (or link) and it instead went to my own Blogger list. Weird, huh? I don't know if that has happened to anyone else, but that's what I found.

    Thought you'd want to know,
    :) Barb
