Long Lost Crockery in the Holiday Cupboard

A few weeks ago my hubby called from our storage unit asking me if I might want him to bring home a few boxes that he'd stumbled over... literally. The problem with moving twice in 5 years is that it's easy to lose track of what's been taken to storage and when. He texted me a pic of a box labeled "crockery" that I hadn't seen in 7 years. WHAT???

I'd wondered what had happened to all my primitive crockery bowls,
since I knew I hadn't seen them at our last house...
I was pretty sure I hadn't sold or given them away,
but instead had been lost in the sea of boxes heading to storage.

I knew the perfect spot to display them...
since the Holiday Cupboard was due for a Mid-Summer refresh.
I decided to start with a clean slate,
so I removed all the French floral pottery, ironstone and anything pastel.

I started thinking about adding in some of my Majolica
with the crockery pieces for a fun colorful summer display.

The Majolica is perfect for Summer,
with it's bright color and pattern.
Summer is my favorite time to let it show off.
I also used a few mix and match transferware plates for the background.

Some of the pieces are Japanese Majolica, which was made in the 1950's.

The other crockery pieces don't have any manufacturing marks on them,
but this little red-rimmed bowl is from McCoy.

This cupboard has turned out to be such a fun spot.
I have a lot of knick knacks and collections, so this is the
perfect place to display them.
I love dishes and china, but I'm a teapot fan at heart.

It's about time for pears,
so I thought I would include them in this crockery bowl display.

The cabbage tureen in the center is a ceramic piece my mom made years ago.

I brought out the vintage bird prints to get a pic without glare.

Mid to late summer is a fun time to let the bright colors
of summer harvest show off in decor.

You just never know what will be hiding
behind those doors.

I've changed up color from my Patriotic displays here in the Garden Room, too.
Golds, greens, darker reds, are starting to pop out.
Late summer color is on the way.

Hope you'll join us Monday Evening!

  2. I love it too! All the color is wonderful. I would be thrilled to make a rediscovery like this! Seems very European to me, which is a look I love. I feel like having a summer switch up too.

  4. Oh, I love this. I haven't done any decorating this year, as who is visiting...LOL. Anyways, I'm going to have to dig in my tin and crocks and find some sunflowers, because you have inspired that color scheme for me. So out with the cool blues and time for some gold/rust/burgundy...Grins, thanks for the eyecandy...Sandi

  5. What a great stumble for your hubby to make. The crockery is so pretty. With the moves I have made I sometimes will think where in the heck did a certain thing go. Then I find it when I am up in the attack looking for something else. The cabinet looks great. xoxo

  6. Well, now, if that wasn't like going shopping! Rediscovering old pieces is truly a joy for me, and for you to have found what you had no idea as to whereabouts....I totally get it! I went to my storage this week and started pulling late summer things too, including pears and sunflowers. It won't be long before your favorite season is here! My daughter posted an excitement meme yesterday over the fact that Halloween is 100 days (now 99) away! Have a great weekend, Debra.

  13. I love your collection and fun it would be to have found such treasures again! I thought about you the other day. I was given an old crockery bowl that's gold with a brown ring around it. It has that deep hollow sound (maybe from the crack) that only an old bowl can have and thought about how you use crocks and pitchers in your fall decor. I can hardly wait to use this one for that! Your hutch is perfect. Pinned!
