Antique Rocking Horse on the Mantel...

I thought I'd share a few more pics of my antique rocking horse
on the mantel, that I showed yesterday in the house tour.

My Mom was telling me this week, how she and my dad answered an ad for it in the paper, around the time of my second or third birthday. This was before the age of the heavy plastic bouncing horsey on a big metal spring. I'm old, but I'm not as old as this horse so don't go making me older than I am! Mom said it was an antique when they found it, but it still had it's tail, mane, saddle and the red wooden stand that it set on. It had been stored in one of our barns, so between then and the time mom gave it back to me, the humidity, cold, (and mice) probably took it's toll.

She thought this was a similar mechanism that it came with for it to glide. So actually it was a glider not a rocker. This one is on Ebay and you can see it HERE.

It gets lost up here on the mantel. I can't seem to take decent photos and get the whole thing in them. I think Santa needs to bring me a new wide angle lens for Christmas.

Enough about being old...

If you missed my Home Tour yesterday
then you can see it HERE

Hope you'll catch the rest of the homes this week.

Happy Tuesday Everyone!

  1. Your rocking horse is gorgeous---and having it as a gift from your parents makes it even more special. My BF, has a penchant for picking up all sorts of vintage horses, and all they do is lurk in her basement, will have to 'borrow' one next year for a vignette. Problem is storing everything. Grins, I would keep it up there all the time, though---grins, Sandi

    1. HaHa, that gives a very creepy mental image. Maybe if you borrowed one she'd never notice!!

  4. I will definitely make my way around all the home tours, but I love the story of your rocking horse! My brother had one - even had a name (Skippy) - and it was on the glider. Every now & then I'll see one in our antique mall, but not often. I have one that I purchased from a fellow dealer that I just love (it's on a wooden rocker frame, not a glider), but its story does not have the personal providence yours has. I just love that! I think he looks quite majestic on your mantel, too.
