Ceramic Owls on the Mantel

See this little guy?
He's been my inspiration for a project that I've had in my head for the last several weeks. Well, actually this little fella has a twin. I knew I wanted to have some white owls on my mantel, but I couldn't find what I was looking for. I needed bigger, as these are only about 5 inches tall. Several of you (if you read this, please leave a comment, 'cause I can't remember where I saw them) had spray painted their flea market ceramic owl finds.

So these were the ceramic misfits that I finally located.
But I wanted a white "Snow Owl" look.

After a couple of coats of white latex paint...Getting there, but too "modern", and I wanted some definition of their faces.

So I got out the craft paints and gave them a slight gray wash.
A little paint for the eyes and beak,
and a light coat of spray sealer.
But they needed a little sparkle to get them close to my inspiration.

I think they turned out pretty cute.

Their bigger size makes them show up on the mantel,
 even though they've been "snowed".

I warned you early on that there would be many evolutions of my
"Fall Mantel".
I think this will work until after Halloween.
then...
the "Late Fall Mantel".

The White Rabbit

While we were in St. Louis, my daughter and I had a couple of fun days of shopping. These pics are from my fave store,
The White Rabbit.  Hope you enjoy, and if you're in the area please stop by, it's really a wonderful store, with a great mix of vintage and new.

Here's their mascot, ready for Trick or Treat

Crazy skeleton pillow from another great store,

She had to have it for her front porch!

Vintage Inspiration # 110

Hi Everyone,
and Welcome to Vintage Inspiration!

We were out of town all last week, so I didn't get to visit many of you, but I had a great time going thru the links picking features this week. Amazing what lies behind those little thumbnail photos that are posted! Here are just a few of the wonderful links from you all last week, that are full of vintage Fall and Halloween inspiration.

Jill from Feathers and Flight is a wonderful artist, and if you haven't met her you will want to check out her blog for her amazing collage and digital work. When I saw this Luna Hanger and Tree of Crows I wanted to share it with you. Thanks Jill, you always inspire me!

Just part of Jill's Halloween decor along with her beautiful mantel.

You have to take a peek at this Vintage Spooky Dolly and Carriage and then read the backstory of these family treasures from Tracey at Crow's Feet Chic

Cathy has the most "Charming" cottage, and just take a look at her front porch decorated for Autumn at My 1929 Charmer . The white wicker and plaid blankets are just my cup of tea!

What a great way to decorate your garden gate; a fun rustic rake head with Indian Corn from Linda at It All Started with Paint.

And Missy from Junkfest
worked a miracle on these wonderful chairs
using vintage burlap coffee sacks...so cool!

Hope you'll join in today for the party,
"Anything vintage or vintage inspired"

Top Three

Kim started a trend that I really like, of sharing the top three visited links from her Wow party, so I thought I'd give the concept a try. More fun to share with all of you who come to the Vintage Inspiration Friday party each week. So here are the top three, hope you'll go by and visit, if you didn't get a chance earlier.

Nancy aka the Headmistress created some wonderful Fall door decor on her chicken coop with an old potato digger and a bunch of faux bittersweet. Don't you just LOVE this?

More front porch decor with some Indian Corn framed out with a vintage oval by Theresa at The Old White House.

And Dru from the Country Farm Home shared all the great haul she found over the weekend, including a whole flock of  "chickens" and a wonderful enamel coffee pot.

Hope to see you tomorrow for the party.
"Anything vintage or vintage inspired"
and all your Fall Fun!
