Late Summer in the Cookbook Cupboard

It seems like August brings all the chickens out to gather in the kitchen and Garden Room. I think of them "down on the farm" hunting and pecking in the barnyard; waiting around for a sprinkle of feed then heading to cooler shady spots for a siesta. So here we are on the Cookbook Cupboard now in late Summer with a few of my vintage flock...

This is a fun spot to decorate with kitchen related vintage goodies. I've always thought bookshelves in the kitchen were a great place to display cookbooks. I don't have many that are impressive, except two Julia Child early ones that became popular again after the movie Julie&Julia. Most of mine are geared toward easy recipes and "beginner" books for kids.

I used one of my vintage "God Bless" prints up here earlier in the Spring against the black chalkboard that has a home here. All the pretty floral blooms frame up the message in a taupe chalk painted frame. My vintage metal green basket weave lunch hamper is still here with a few roosters strutting their stuff.

I wanted to put together a small mixed flower arrangement for the old white enamel "camp fire" coffee pot, using a few sunflowers, hydrangeas, daisies, and coneflowers. Even though it's a faux bouquet it looks fresh and fun.

I imagine these guys are from the 60's,
since they were very popular with the early American look.

This is my mom's "Drip-O-Later" coffee pot from the 50's.

Here's my grandmother's APCO bull/cow cookie jar from the 40' or 50's. I found him this last year and decided this would be the perfect spot to display his cuteness.

I happened to find this fella on Ebay,
which shows how he might have looked years ago.
Gotta love those eyelashes!

The two houses on the lower shelf are also cookie jars...

Here are a few other posts from the cookbook cupboard:

  2. When I saw the original look of the cookie jar I was like - uuhm, yikers. Love how people painted things back then. I love your cookbook shelf. Not many people (me included) get to decorate a full shelf with fabulous old cookbooks. Love it!
