Easter Picket Fence Centerpiece

Monday I looked out my kitchen window and oh my gosh, there were little yellow blooms on one of my forsythia bushes. Now there were only a few, but how fitting that they show up in time for the official start of Spring! So today, all four of the bushes have blooms and I'm hoping to get out this weekend to snip a few branches to bring indoors.

In honor of the real thing blooming, I wanted to change up my wooden bucket with Narcissus blooms to faux forsythia. And of course I added some sticks back in to the mix... somehow they look more real to me when some woodsy naturals are added.

Some of you may remember this fun little picket fence garden box from years ago. For some reason I only think of using it in the springtime. Maybe it's because it just screams "g-a-r-d-e-n" and flowers, and of course it needs a big fat rabbit to top it off.

This is my paper mache bunny from the early 80's that I bought at a little boutique antique shop about 40 years ago. I love his sweet face and the subtle hint of pink ears and bunny whiskers. A local artsy couple created hand-made critters and I was lucky enough to snag him at an Easter sale. He's a bit bottom heavy for the garden box but I built up the bottom with moss and coaxed him in.

French seed packets of variety carrots are snugged inside a whitewashed clay pot.
And a pastel plaid wired ribbon makes a perfectly dapper knotted tie.

There seem to be rabbits multiplying around the house??? ...same at yours? I'm slowly getting out the Easter goodies, and have been working on the Dining Room today. I found some new fabric for a Spring tablerunner, and I'm excited to see how that works out.

Here's that post from our last house

For the first week of Spring we're having a few cold and nasty days. I think I even saw a snowflake today but I'm mentally denying it and waiting for a weekend warmup. Here are a little couple that have decided to visit every day, and clean up the birdseed. There are several lakes in our old subdivision so we have a multitude of Canadian Geese. It's egg laying season any day now, so she's sucking up the calories. They're a bit messy, but really cute.

We hope you'll come by Monday evenings at 6 pm.

  4. Debra, this is inspiring! I'm working on a garden party theme, and your little garden box would come in handy. I need to find someone to make me one for future use. Love your bunny! The fact that you have had him for over 40 years makes my heart sing. Like you, I have holiday pieces bought many years ago and still enjoy pulling them out. Honestly it's difficult to find wonderful pieces made locally or in the US. I'm not inclined to buy decor made of resin and made in China. Thanks for sharing, Debra. It's delightful!

    1. thankyou Sarah, I LOVE this bunny. I was thinking this morning about the fact that I had a few holiday pieces that are so very special, and most of them are ooak. I've had to be so careful with him since we've moved so many times. Can't wait to see your garden party theme! That's the sort of thing I can really get excited about! Happy Thursday!

  6. I remember how messy geese can be. And so loud! They were on our back porch every single day wanting me to feed them. I of course couldn't help myself so the messes were my fault. Loved your centerpiece. Even the ribbon around the bunnies neck is so pretty. Love all the color. pinned
