Spring Market and Vintage Ivy Dishes

Spring Open Houses seem to be a little late this year, but since our weather has been on the cold side, I think we're all running a little behind schedule. We (my sis and I) only made it a couple of places, but we got our fix for all things Spring.

Full of wonderful vintage and antique goods, the Vintage Peddler, has it all. Just walking through the many vendor spaces you can get so much inspiration from the wonderful vignettes and displays.

How cute is this green vintage bike?
Sorry the pic is a little blurry.

Adirondack Chair with a lacy stencil and Bird Nest Trellis.

When I found this sweet little vintage Ivy dish set, I was smitten. I debated for quite awhile, knowing I didn't need them at all, but they finally won out, because they just looked so fresh and "garden-y".

I have several other little books with adorable garden illustrations, so I grabbed these two, one called Cottage Gardener, the other Herb Gardener. Each little illustration could easily be framed. so sweet.

I stacked the set, which is really luncheon size,
into my crate that I found there last year.

I snip off my longer trails of Ivy and root them in water, that way I can replant them in a few months for a new Ivy pot. This time I used a topiary form to give it a little shape. It's in a vintage McCoy pottery planter.

Another find was this vintage jar with an old Lettuce Seed Packet Label

Here are the Sugar and Creamer from the set of Harker China, Royal Gadroon Ivy. It says Harker is America's Oldest China maker. I have my Great Grandmother's bedraggled China set somewhere around here. Even though it is Homer Laughlin, I might be able to use them together. I also have some small sets of Green Transferware that might mix and match too. I have so many vintage floral plates that are just odds and ends. I'd like to see about combining some of them, since this set is missing the Dinner Plates.

So that's what's new here on the Baker's Rack. Let's not tell my husband that I bought more old dishes. I kinda sorta brought them in and arranged things while he was at work. He doesn't notice that kind of thing, since he knows I have way too much "stuff" for him to consciously catalogue. I hope I haven't set myself up for another kind of "collection". I'm supposed to be subtracting "things" instead of adding things.

  2. You had me at dishes.....and the majolica pitcher in the first vignette captured....and the sheep, which did not go unnoticed! I actually love luncheon/salad and dessert/appetizer/bread & butter plates...they can be stacked with other stuff you likely already have. I bet green transferware will be pretty with those! Well, that was a lot of fun for me....shopping without spending or having to store anything else. hehe

  3. I always love reading your blog. I have my Aunt's Homer laughlin dishes and I just love them. I also have autoimmune stuff going on. Also, I collect sheep. They make me happy!! Blessings.

  4. Harker, Hall and Homer Laughlin. My three favorite H words! Sometimes your heart and soul needs new dishes, even if the cupboard doesn't! I love the arrangement on your rack -- so bright, cheery and springy. And that book is just darling! I love using books like that to help me learn to paint better!

  6. I grew up eating off an ivy set just like that one. Also, that was the set that was in I Love Lucy. Great finds!! I'll definitely be back!!

  7. I have a soft spot for vintage sets or parts of sets of dishes, my friend had that ivy set once. And the majolica was so popular back in the 1980's
Makes me think I need to get some sets out for display that I have packed away
You always have things displaced so pretty

  11. I missed this post some how. I just decoupaged a seed box to look old so this post is perfect! It also reminds me of the stuff I already have to arrange on my dish dresser. I have too much stuff too. I hope you are well, friend.

  12. Debra, I'm all in with these ivy vintage dishes! And probably would have buckled and purchased all of them :) So hard to resist spring anything.
I also gravitate towards the baker seed packages.
