"Fairytale" Inspiration for Easter continued...

Last weekend I shared with you a beautiful new book
by the people that bring us Jeanne d'arc Living magazine,
 entitled "Fairytale Easter".

I fell in love with all the wonderful
Easter and Spring inspired creations that grace each page.

Little did I know when I visited Leola's Vintage Home and Garden Spring Open House last week, that someone else had been inspired to create these same lovely decoupaged eggs. My friend Pam, who always has some of the most amazing creations and displays around, had crafted her own version of these Easter lovelies.

So a few came home with me
for my own Easter display in an old cardboard suitcase.

They joined other bits and pieces of vintage ephemera,
baskets with moss, and a nest or two for a little vintage Easter vignette.

Aren't these embellished vintage Easter postcards
just precious with bits of twine, tulle, and feathers?

One of my collection of old church fans in the background.
Jesus with the lambs are my favorites.

A hyacinth bulb and old book wrapped in stamped cotton ribbon.

It's times like this that I remember that my true love is
"all things vintage".

Spring in the Entry

I haven't shown this little spot in my Entry Hall for awhile, because actually I have two "Entry" areas, and this one often feels like Cinderella to the Stepsisters. The light can be tricky here, but today with a little sunshine and a new Spring-y vignette it got a little attention.

I had it in my head for white tulips this year,
so they're filling a basket along with a twiggy wreath.

My sis made me this wonderful moss covered "O" for Christmas,
and I loved the black ticking stripe ribbon she chose.

Two of my lambies are grazing in the lantern.
I think they look like they're in church with all the Gothic arches.

I always love tulips for Spring.

This little Eastlake dresser was black for many years, but a couple of years ago in my crazy "paint everything in the house" mode, it got the "white" treatment.

Gray washed French Laundry Basket underneath for extra cold weather gear.

Here's a shot from a little further out from the Dining Room...

...and this from the Living Room.
I have a larger header I need to get painted for over the door.
This looks a little too small, now that I'm looking at it.
It's the width of the door, but with windows on each side,
it needs something chunkier.

OK, where's my can of white paint?

Now that I think about it,  I don't think I've shown my twin boxwood topiaries for ages. I bought these ten years ago before  The Bombay Company went out of business. An expensive purchase at the time, but they were for our younger daughter's wedding, and I never regretted it.

Here tied with a French Script wired ribbon.

I realized when painting this petite little dresser
that there are reasons some things are painted black...

It had large gaps between the wood pieces on the side which I had to fill with wood putty before the second coat of paint. Totally hidden by the black color, they were glaring when the white paint went on. It's still a little rough, but I love the size and this is where gloves and scarves are kept.

As you can see, I'm not a perfectionist.
The hardware got a paint job too.
That works for me on Shabby pieces.

On the Deck

More Outdoor Fall Stuff,
this time on the deck.

Here's the view from my kitchen window, out to the back deck. I like to keep a seasonal vignette out here and change it up every year, and I wanted to do something totally different this Fall. I usually use a small barnwood wheelbarrow, but this year I grabbed a little black French wagon and added the old bushel basket and a watering can as a backdrop.

We had a limb come down from one of the maples in front early in the summer, so I nabbed it before it could be cut into smaller pieces. Hubbs knows not to argue, just save the thing in the garage and don't ask questions....

Of course I had a plan!
Why not just hang a Fall sign for pumpkins from it?

Up until last week I still had a few straggling hummies, so the feeder has been out. If you want to read about those amazing little birds and their migration south, then it will give you a new sense of wonder about how God is so evident in nature.

Hard to get a picturesque shot from here, but an old ice cream maker bucket and a white washed apple basket are holding a few more mums, along with a few of my old watering cans.

Love the rusty patina on that old bucket.

Now, the deck would not be complete without a hidden camera shot of one of my little stinkers. This little fellow and a smaller one have been sneaking around here messing with the pumpkins and eating those "preserved" leaves that you find at Michael's and Hobby Lobby. I cannot imagine that they taste good, and could even be dangerous, but they have a fascination with them. Each day there are fewer of them in the basket...yuck.

no chewing on the pumpkins, please...

Hope you're having a great week.
Fall is finally here,
and I'm loving it!

Around the house...

I've had a few things I wanted to share with you, just little things around the house. Some small additions and changes, so I thought I'd lump them all together in one post. I found this wonderful pillow last month in Ozark at one of my favorite stores, The Feathered Nest. It was made by one of the owners; hand painted in a wonderful Old World calligraphy style. I use this in the Master Bedroom, but I brought it into the Dining Room for better light, then paired it up with a couple of my flea find pillows, that I use on the sunporch.

Can you see "Paris" on the bottom?

Loved the back closure with raw edged ties.

While Anne was here we did a little shopping downtown and I found this great wicker trunk. It's really a nice size for some storage. (just as long as I don't put something in here, then forget where it is...I've been known to do that once or twice.) It was just $30. I see these frequently, new and used, for about $75, so it felt like a good buy.

I wanted to give it a French Gray wash, so I used a little spray paint,
but that wasn't doing it for me, so I did a dry brush of antique white and gray latex.

I think I'd like to try a French stencil on top or the front...
not sure, but I'm thinking about it.

AND, finally some photos of the new floral pillows I made for the Living Room sofas. They're pretty plain, no fancy schmancy stuff, but just what I wanted to bring in a little different feel for Fall.

We're having a little rain this weekend; we are still so far below normal. But here in Missouri, September is a rainy month. You won't believe this, but with the cooler weather, look what I have in the back yard...

The extreme heat and drought almost killed the hydrangea bushes this year, but they're trying to rally in the more mild temperatures.
