January Tabletop with a Quilted Runner

I think many of us this week are literally freezing our tootsie rolls off. Winter has finally hit us here in southern Missouri and we had a bit of a mini blizzard. It was so cold that even the birds and squirrels didn't want to come out for their late afternoon snack. Blowing snow and low temps have made me need to keep busy getting my house back to normal after Christmas.  

I like to keep a neutral color scheme in these weeks after the holidays. With all the glitz and glitter of Christmas, I'm always ready for more low-key and subdued color and surroundings. I usually go with quilts and wool blankets and sometimes even bring out the darker accent colors. 

I usually keep a layered look with a heavy linen Euro grain sack and burlap ones on top as a table runner, but I thought I'd try a quilted throw for something new. Grays, browns and neutrals in a log cabin design folded in thirds is being used as the base this season.

I put together these foraged branches with faux pears a while back and have loved using them during the late fall and winter months. I have several containers that I like to use here on the table which are all good sized pieces. I'm back with the vintage wooden ice cream bucket this time. The pear branches mix well with faux evergreens and darker hydrangeas for a loose floral arrangement that will last until spring.

How to Use a Metal Toolbox in Winter Decor

My tabletop vignettes are always a work in progress and you often see me while I'm putting it all together. I started out with the bucket arrangement, then added the wicker fishing basket. Next I added the large birch wrapped candle in an ironstone pedestal bowl and a few loose pears.

The candle looked a little bare so I added a few small pinecones around the base.

Two of my vintage breadboards snugged inside the creel alongside a small evergreen tree from Christmas.

I love using this toile handmade tea towel and tried it out for a moment. Later I decided it overpowered the basket, so away it went. As I said, it's often a work in progress.

Candlelight brings a warm glow to the dining area here in the Garden Room.

I finally managed to get out to the garage to put away a few of my straggler Christmas décor pieces. I still have greenery and faux poinsettias in baskets around the house, so they will have to wait. I usually hang on to those till after Valentine's Day. Stay warm and have have fun during this quiet and cozy time of the year.
