Thanksgiving to Christmas in the Hearth Room

Seems like the last 10 years or so, I've been putting up the Christmas trees a few weeks before Thanksgiving to get a little jump on decorating for Christmas; at least since I've been blogging. Once they're up then it's much easier for me to get some inspiration on how I want to decorate, whether that's colors, or theme, or to try something new. By blogging standards, I'm late to the game, but behind the scenes I've secretly been thinking "Christmas!".

These pics are of my Hearth Room where I have put up a smallish tree this year. Last year I didn't even get one out of the box. Being honest here, I stopped "decorating" my Christmas tree(s) several years ago when it seemed like I was the only one admiring it, and that definitely I was the only one decorating it.
Anyone else spend time trying to get your family to participate in a nostalgic "decorating the tree" event to have it all blow up in your face?

I think I enjoy seeing those white lights twinkling unobscured,
just as much as adding on ornaments.

So here's to mixing some Christmas color with the wool throw,
white lights, a few pumpkins and some vintage Thanksgiving postcards
on the mantel.

Yes, that's a tweed pumpkin. love it.
If you missed my post on my Thanksgiving mantel you can catch it here.

and a monogram lumbar pillow from Ballard Design.

(Can you tell I didn't really style this?
It's more of a "where to put this?" look)

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone.

Next up is Christmas, friends...
Now, I'm ready.

  1. Hey, no judging from this corner! You do so much other styling/decorating, I can certainly see your reasoning with simple lights on the trees as stand alones. This looks so inviting. With our downsize, that included downsizing our tree to a 4.5'. It was the last thing I decorated this year, hesitating for all the same reasons you give. But, in the end I decorated the tree. Unwrapping those ornaments and those memories felt like a much needed virtual trip down memory lane. Have a peaceful Thanksgiving, Debra.

  2. Hi Debra. I think simple is better and that is how I did my decor this year too. I love the white lights on the tree at night. Gives me peace. We have been living in such unsettling and scary times I think simple and pretty lights are a good thing. I think we all need a little sparkle in our lives right now. Your tree look so pretty and of course I say this everytime I see that beautiful armoire love love love that. If I had that piece guess what I would not paint it white lol! It is so gorgeous. Have a wonderful day tomorrow. xoxo Kris

  3. Everything looks so charming and inviting, Debra! Love your cozy sofa, and always love to see the way you display your collections. I like simple trees too. I prefer just white lights, but I also very dislike undecorating a tree after Christmas. Your mantle looks wonderful too. I could really settle in here. Happy Thanksgiving!

  4. Hey I am big time simplifying this year for sure. Doing it all completely different, easy on myself since I too am the ONLY one. Love your simple tree and wow do I love your big armoire! She is a true beauty!!

Have yourself a peaceful healthy and happy Thanksgiving.

  5. Beautiful Debra, I unfortunately can't keep it simple. I get on Christmas drugs I think.

I try to keep as many simple plain greens since I'm a nut.

    Love your decor always!

Hope you had a great Thanksgiving!

  6. This room looks beautiful.Love that little tree with the white lights. I let my 4 year old pick out the lights and he chose the colorful set. I figure at some point he won't be interested in decorating with me so I let him have a bit of a say ha ha. -Marie This Dear Casa, siting from LYC.

  7. I think that is so lovely! Simple is often synonymous with classic too and you can never go wrong with simple white lights.
