Cozying Up the Back Porch for Late Fall

We're heading into my favorite time of the year. Late Fall's brilliant color, cool days, and cozy nights have always been the season that renews my mind and heart. I always enjoy the change of seasons; winter to spring is my next favorite time of the year. But the brilliance of the leaves in late fall paints a canvas that undeniably lifts me body, mind and soul.

Today I'm sharing scenes from the Back Porch and the Potting Bench during the Fall season. Lots of pictures, and I'm still enjoying the season and not quite ready to bring out the Christmas décor. How about you all? In this post I was saturated with fall but looking forward to the Christmas season. I couldn't help but bring out one of my small faux trees to introduce a bit of Christmas to the porch.

Wool Pendleton blankets mixed with mums and pumpkins help me transition from fall to winter, and to be able to enjoy Thanksgiving; looking forward to Christmas. I can't just pack away "fall" and bring out "Christmas". The older I get the more I want to fully immerse myself into the present moment.

Faux mums in an olive bucket in one of my goat carts.

The other side of the back door you find the potting bench.

I found this old workbench about 15 years ago, added an old shelf and gave it a good coat of white paint. Potting benches were the trend back then, but I've surprised myself with how much I actually use it for storage.

As you can see by the bottom shelf, this actually is used, and my garden tools, pots and fertilizer all are stored here. I keep a few pieces of old ironstone for impromptu flower arrangements within reach.

Sometimes I find chipmunks and squirrels in the drawers hiding acorns and walnuts. Birds hunt out stray bird seed, so you never know what you'll find.

Mixed foraged fall naturals in an ironstone pitcher. Sedum and hydrangeas mix with oak leaf hydrangeas and forsythia branches.

Fall is my favorite season on the potting bench.

My Momma and Baby rabbits live here on the potting bench, year round. I have a chipmunk that loves to sit on Momma's head for a good vantage point.

  2. Love your back porch and that last photo of naturals gathered in the carrying tote! I think the trick to enjoying the moment more is to do a little less, so it's a joy, not a chore, to switch through the changes of each season. I hope I don't go overboard in decorating for Christmas! I'm really enjoying our fall this year - great color, and I think I've finally got my garden under manageable control.

  3. I love your potting bench. And your pendleton blanket is really wonderful. It has a fallish look and you can leave it in place! What a delightful porch!

  4. Oh my golly, I love your back porch! We never ever ever decorate our back porch. The yard is small and ugly so what's the use? I love everything you've done and would love sitting out there. I think the iron chair with the wreath and pumpkin is my fave. Hope you get to enjoy it quite often.
