Happy July 4th!!! at All About Home #203

Hi Friends, Welcome to the All About Home Link Party! This weekend we've been working on outdoor/porch cleanup. Power washing and preparing to paint. We've been hot and dry here, but it's supposed to rain tomorrow, so I'm hoping there's dry time for a quick cookout in the afternoon. Do you/did you have big plans for this weekend? Hope you're having a great holiday.

On a personal/blog note... Amber and I are going to take a break with the Link Party for the rest of the summer and come back with some great fall inspiration, refreshed and ready for the busiest time in blogland. Amber is still in the process of renovating her wonderful new/old home and has a move a bit later in the season.

Several weeks ago I mentioned the fact that I'd had a long waited for diagnosis of all the autoimmune neurological problems that I've been having for many years. We went to Mayo Clinic last fall, but they weren't sure of a diagnosis. My wonderful Internist went ahead and made the diagnosis in April of Myasthenia Gravis and is in the process of trying to find me a local neurologist who can supervise my health care.

Generalized MG is a relatively rare long-term illness that effects only about 20 people out of 100,000. It's a neuro-muscular disease similar to Multiple Sclerosis, and is hard to treat without many medication options. I have a lot of allergies and because of that I'm not eligible for any of the new infusion meds on the market. The immune system destroys the nerve/muscle junction receptors and causes severe muscle weakness and in my case trouble talking, swallowing, breathing and walking. Basically I wear out after a short time of physical activity. Hopefully soon, I'll get an evaluation and insight from a specialist, and get a better handle on managing this.
I'm being honest in saying this has been tough, but I'm determined to not let it control my life. So, a bit of a break is needed. You all know I love fall, and want to be able to enjoy it with you.
I'll still be blogging, but need to do it when I can take things slow and let creativity lead. So you'll still see me around, so please still drop by and catch up. Some of you who have been with me through the years know I've been through a lot of health stuff, and I'm still here. Thanks for being here, friends!

Amber from Follow the Yellow Brick Home and I are so excited to be co-hosting this fun link party, that celebrates "All Things Home". We love to see what You are up to each week, so please join in with your decor, seasonal fun, gardens, DIYs, recipes and more. We each pick and share features each week, so be sure and visit both of us to check out the weekly highlights.

This last week I shared my sitting area in the Garden Room decorated in patriotic color and the Holiday Cupboard.

Be sure and check out Amber's fun post for this week!

This week we have some great DIYs that include beautiful paint techniques, using pressed flowers for art work, and a beautiful way to display dishes and platters. And who doesn't love a delicious chocolate cupcake? Okay if you don't,  I'll be glad to eat yours...

  1. Oh Debra! I am so sorry to hear about your health situation but I fully understand. I am going through some of the same struggles, breaking up my projects into segments and taking many breaks. I don't have the strength and stamina I use to and I need to learn to live with my limitations, but I am also grateful to have something I can manage. I know it could be worse so I try to remain positive. Please take care of yourself and we will all be back to link up in the fall (my favorite too). I am glad you still will be posting when you can, since I love your style and it's always a delight to see your posts. Stay well my friend and thank you for hosting us. XO- MaryJo

It's so frustrating to want to do something and not being able to keep up with your own expectations. Thanks for sharing what you're dealing with. Take care of yourself and I so appreciate each week when you show up here!

  12. I know it must be a huge answer to prayer to finally have a diagnosis, Debra. It seems like you've been going through this for such a long time and I know it has not been an easy thing to do. I will continue to add my prayers to the others for strength, healing and wisdom in the days and months to come. Thank you for featuring my table this week and for always giving us a fun place to share. Sending you so many hugs and lots of love sweet friend, CoCo

  13. I always look forward to your beautiful posts, sweet Debra...your decorating always inspires me, and I want you to know that I love everything you do. You are such an inspiration, and such a beautiful creative person...you just take it easy and rest...and just do what you can, when you can. Like you said, just let creativity flow when it flows and post when you can. Praying for you and your complete healing, in the name of Jesus. I know God has brought you a long way on your health journey. He has brought you this far, and He's not gonna let you down, He's going to come through again and again. I remember when you researched your condition and had to get the doctors to listen, and I believe God has given you insight and wisdom and now wise doctors to help you on your journey, and I know God will see you through. God bless you and keep you, sweet lady.

  16. You will be in my thoughts and prayers Debra, sometimes taking a break is what we need. MS runs in my family, so I know a bit about it, but I have not actually heard of your diagnosis before, but it does sound like they share many similarities. Once upon a time, I worked in the rehab field and always found correlations in many of the folks' diagnosis's I would meet with. Through blogging, I have met many who have severe allergies (like myself), and have found many folks have autoimmune disorders that seem to go along with the allergies, or that is my take on things from sharing my stories and hearing others. I am always searching for answers when the medical field seems to fail me. Take care of yourself, I look forward to seeing you in the fall again!
