Flowering Bulbs Spring Vignette

I mentioned last week how we didn't have any flowering bulbs planted at this house. (insert sad face) This last 2 years after 2 spine surgeries, I just wasn't up to a plan for bulb planting in the Fall, but I'm hoping this year I can get a few out. (optimistic face!) A mental plan is the first step to getting something accomplished!

But I didn't want to wait around and complain about the lack of spring flowers, so for my birthday I finagled, begged, asked my husband to take me to one of our nurseries in town so I could buy my own (already blooming) and have a little spring color in the garden room.

Next up was finding a vintage container to display them in. I found this wonderful metal basket weave lunch hamper at Christmas on Etsy. I knew it would be perfect for Spring and it certainly is. I kept most of the plants in their original plastic containers, because I'll be planting them in a few weeks once the blooms have dried up.

The old rusty garden gate is a perfect backdrop for this vintage floral display. The antique cardboard suitcase is still here on the old white desk. And a new moss bunny is hanging out in a mini metal wheelbarrow waiting for a nibble.

A couple of grape hyacinths (?) are snuggled into another small wood-look metal lunch basket. Two small pots of angel vine and two more teensy pots of fern, which I think might be a type of maiden hair ferns. There are 3 small pots of daffodils of varied types. One pot has larger blooms and the other two are smaller varieties. White hyacinths which smell amazing. The pink tulips are so adorable; I'm in love...

I have a few packets of seeds and old French seed labels out
with vintage hand rakes painted green.

He thinks he smells blooms in the air.

Be sure and come back this weekend...
Amber and I will be sharing another post on

  5. I don't know why I never think to shop on Etsy when it's probably got to be my favorite place! This is super cute and that lunch basket is amazing! Happy Spring!

  6. Absolutely beautiful, Debra! The rusty gate, the adorable metal picnic basket, old garden tools and fresh Spring bulb flowers; think I'd want to sit and gaze at this all day long! Think I've got an aqua picnic basket that is crying out for this; I've never even thought about putting flowers in it. Thanks for the idea, and watch for it:)

  7. Those are so cute in your containers, Debra! That's a perfect way to bring spring inside! I almost bought some blooming plants today but refrained. I have some petite daffs and standard ones blooming outside right now, all scattered in my landscape. I think they've been hidden for the past seven years from all those boxwoods I had and either transplanted or had removed. Today was mid 60s here (snow tomorrow 😒). Seeing your grape hyacinths, I now realize I just spent about 4 hours in my landscape pulling those up!! They were all over the place in one bed in particular, growing in and among other plants. I just googled the bulbs (they look like pearl onions). Oh well, it appears they spread randomly, so I'm sure there are more from where those came. I remember removing many of those bulbs last fall when I planted my iris, too.

  8. This is so adorable, and definitely Spring. Here, we had snow three times last week which definitely makes you ignore Spring--as we have a ways to wait. Higher temps are promised this week, so perhaps I can be motivated. I still love your style the best, even though my house is bare at the moment. Hugs, Sandi

  9. Love this vignette. It must be a happy spot in your home. I did the same thing this year. We moved to a brand new property and we are doing all the landscaping so, no spring flowers! Thanks for posting at Funtastic Friday.Pinning

  10. Oh that looks gorgeous Debra! I've been trying to find the time to get to my favorite nursery but I haven't made it yet. It's a little warmer here this week so maybe soon. I think your arrangement might just be the most perfect spring picture I've seen so far!
