Vintage Patriotic Garden Room

I'm back today with more from the sitting area in the Garden Room.
That means More vintage goodies in shades of red/white/blue.

I

I've always been someone who loves to decorate for holidays, and why should July 4th be different? Some years when things have been hectic I've toned things down a bit, but really... I enjoy sharing my love for seasons and holidays. Our girls and their friends always enjoyed the fun decor, along with the special family celebrations that accompany it. Golly, I miss those family celebrations.

Looking back through the years it's easy to see my love for all things patriotic.
Coming from a background of selling antiques and vintage merchandise,
we always took advantage of holidays to showcase colors and items.
Do you have a lot of red and blue items?
Well, put together a patriotic display and give the customers something fun to shop.
I just play "flea market booth" at home.

The anchor piece at this end of the Garden Room is the Holiday Cupboard.
It's so much fun to decorate for whatever occasion is upon us.
If you missed my last post, you can find it here.

I also mentioned last post that I had an old woven coverlet that I'd never shared before.
I'm not sure of it's age, but I know that it's probably pretty old.
It's a very dark indigo and "antique" white.
If you know anything about this type of coverlet;
history etc. please leave a comment.

I saved these Waverly fruit pillows from a sofa I had several years ago. I had ordered an extra set since I'd had a large comfy chair that matched, so I'd kept that extra set when I sold the sofa and chair. Looking at this pic I realized my coverlet wasn't in the center of the settee cushion, but shucks, I have cats to straighten up after. The Maine Coon has taken over the Garden Room and she makes herself comfortable on all the flat surfaces.

The big pillow is a tiny indigo and cream check
with an old flag sewn on.

I put together one of my white totes with some summer vintage kitchen pieces and a small grapevine and red hydrangea wreath. (Can you have too many totes?)I ended up replacing the fruit basket wall plaque with some summer motif paper napkins.

Do you do that?
Put together a post, then realize something needs to change?

OK, much better.

The kitchen cooking tools are a combination of my maternal grandmother's and some flea market finds. I tried to keep it to red and white pieces, but sometimes it's hard to limit them, because I love the green handles too.

My philosophy in patriotic decor is easy.
Add some flags and you have instant July 4th decor.

My red vintage garden sprinkler is filled with faux blue hydrangeas and red geraniums.

Interesting tidbit about this little toile teapot.
I bought it new at TJ Maxx about 8 years ago to actually use.
( A Churchill pottery piece from England)
I kept it at the back of my stovetop so it would be handy for my afternoon cuppa.
One day I turned on the burner of my flat surface cooktop to heat up a kettle.
We had just moved and I wasn't sure of the knobs.
I heard a loud pop from the other room and came running.
I couldn't figure out what had made such a loud noise,
but when I noticed the wrong burner was on I got it.
The pottery teapot had over heated and cracked.
But as it cooled it remained intact.
I can't use it for tea, but it works great for decor!!

I only found one of these red/white floral metal canisters,
although I've seen the full sets before.
This one is relatively rust free, unlike the others I've seen.

More instant patriotic decor.

I've been taking pics of the Hearth Room for next week.
I always need a sunny day to grab some light.

Have a great weekend,
we're still waiting for some rain.
...Bad when June becomes the month for drought.

  3. As always, you are an inspiration for All Things Holiday! I decorate for holidays and seasons too -
but my little sister has a lake house and hosts all sorts of RWB July 4th parties up there (except this pandemic year, of course,) so I gave her all my patriotic decor. Seeing yours makes me so happy.

Hope you are staying safe, and healthy. Take care, Deb. Hugs.

  10. What absolutely lovely 4th of July decor! Vintage always makes it so much more fun:) That cabinet is to die for, and I love the way you have it styled. We used to have a large couch and loveseat set that looks very similar to your floral pillows! So pretty how you combined them with other colors and patterns. Hope you're having a relaxing fourth! Thanks for sharing at Vintage Charm! Pinned! xo Kathleen

  15. Debra, you know I love the patriotic colors and Americana. I started to bring out pieces this weekend. Still arranging. Seeing your red watering can reminded me that I had found a white vintage watering can with a blue star on a red background. I'll fill it with flowers! Thanks for inspiring me to get busy. I pinned a few ideas. Happy Summer!
