Christmas in the Dining Room

Thank you to all of you good friends,
who came out to participate in the
I'm still going through the links for a post of a few of your homes.
A little unexpected garbage disposal malfunction,
has me waiting for a plumber and installation.
Always fun for Christmas!
(better now, than next week!)

I thought I would change out my Milk Maid Vintage Print for my favorite
William Bouguereau Madonna, "Lambs".

Each year I say that I'm not going to overdo it at Christmas; that I'm not going overboard on the decorations. It's an attempt to give me peace of mind about packing it all up and putting it all away. I did pretty good this year. I resisted the urge to cover every square inch. I love Christmas, but sometimes I let the decorations get away from me.

I wanted to use my big chalk "bird".
I'm not sure what it really is supposed to be...
I painted it white a few years ago,
and now it's wearing a lovely plaid ribbon to celebrate the Holidays.

"Here's your close-up, Mr. Goosey."

This is such a small space, it's easy to overwhelm it.
Good thing the ceilings are high;
that helps to visually make it feel more spacious.

This year, I only used 2/3 of the Moonlight Tree from Treetopia.
I didn't want to move furniture, so it's sort of blocking a "shortcut".
That's OK, it's just me who needs to walk a few more steps.

I made it work in an olive bucket, by setting an urn inside.
I used a light two-toned ribbon with stars and sequins that is very subtle,
and my vintage Shiny Brite ornaments and Birdies.

On the other wall is my buffet.
It's holding my little French Girl Bust and an Ironstone Tureen.
The Boxwood Wreath is a little heavy,
so it's just leaning up against the Mirror.

Some vintage bottle brush trees and Shiny Brites
are in this medium sized cloche.

I usually don't put Christmas things in my Dining Room China Cabinet,
but I didn't have a space for my Putz Churches, so I squeezed them in here.

They look pretty when the cabinet lights are on in the evening.

Here's the bigger cloche that I put together in the Spring.
It's only changed a little, I put in a Christmas Nest for Christmas.

It doesn't photograph well on the buffet,
so I brought it over to the table where there isn't as much glare.

Merry Christmas from the Dining Room!
I'm leaving the Link Party up on the Sidebar,
so you can check out the links when you have a few minutes.

  5. Very pretty---either we have such brilliant sunshine and you can photo anything with white-out or its so dismal the auto-lights go on a 2pm. Love the cloche. It must be nice to have the feeling of space with the high ceilings, especially to let the light in.
Thanks for sharing your ---hold back Christmas, lol, Sandi

  12. What a gorgeous job you did decorating your dining room! My favorite are those churches in the china cabinet - my mom had churches like that when we were kids....they are so beautiful! Your home is just lovely, Debra.

  13. It really beautiful, and you always seem to find the best animal figurines and statuary. I love the churches and didn't put mine up this year, the last two years I've been wanting to paint them white and have't. Question, my new china hutch has glass selves but how do you stand plates up against the back with no groove? Every year I say I'm going to keep it simple and I just never seem to be able to do that...so congrats to you!
